Former Michigan Athlete of the Week: David Harris

David Harris

New York Jets inside linebacker David Harris made 11 tackles, 0.5 sacks, and 1 pass breakup in a 9-6 loss to the Los Angeles Rams. Harris has been a steady presence on the inside over the last decade, and Sunday was his best game of the year so far.

HONORABLE MENTION

  • New England Patriots QB Tom Brady was 23/32 for 319 yards, 0 touchdowns, and 1 interception in a 31-24 loss to the Seattle Seahawks
  • On the other side, Seattle DE Frank Clark made 5 tackles and 1 sack in the same game
  • Carolina Panthers WR Devin Funchess caught 3 passes for 56 yards and 1 touchdown, a 38-yarder, in a 20-17 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs
  • Philadelphia Eagles DE Brandon Graham made 3 tackles and 1 sack in a 24-15 win over the Atlanta Falcons
  • Green Bay Packers FB Joe Kerridge played in his first NFL game. He was released earlier in the year by the Washington Redskins

BAD NEWS

  • Minnesota Vikings OT Jake Long suffered an Achilles injury and is out for the year. This may be the end of his career after multiple ACL tears and now an Achilles issue. He’s only 31 years old, which isn’t ancient, but he just can’t stay healthy.

Former Michigan Athlete of the Week: Jake Ryan

Green Bay Packers linebacker Jake Ryan made 12 tackles in a 31-26 loss to the Indianapolis Colts. He now has 59 tackles and 3 pass breakups on the season.

HONORABLE MENTION

  • Seattle Seahawks DE Frank Clark made 3 tackles and 1 sack in a 31-25 win over the Buffalo Bills
  • Carolina Panthers WR Devin Funchess caught 1 pass for 28 yards in a 13-10 win over the Los Angeles Rams
  • New York Jets LB David Harris made 5 tackles in a 27-23 loss to the Miami Dolphins

It’s a pretty boring week for former Wolverines when a guy with 1 catch for 28 yards gets honorably mentioned, but that’s how it goes sometimes.

Former Michigan Athlete of the Week: Taylor Lewan

Taylor Lewan (#77)

Despite losing 34-26 to the Indianapolis Colts, Tennessee Titans offensive tackle Taylor Lewan had an exciting day with his first NFL touchdown. On a tackle-eligible play, he caught a pass from Marcus Mariota and ran into the end zone (LINK since embedding is unavailable). Dedicated Michigan fans, though, may remember that Lewan scored a touchdown in a Michigan uniform, too, when he recovered a Denard Robinson fumble in the end zone:

HONORABLE MENTION

  • New England Patriots QB Tom Brady completed 19/26 passes for 222 yards and 2 touchdowns in a 27-16 win over the Pittsburgh Steelers
  • Brady’s teammate, NT Alan Branch, made 3 tackles and 1 forced fumble in that 27-16 win over the Steelers
  • Seattle Seahawks DE Frank Clark made 5 tackles, 1.5 tackles for loss, and 1 forced fumble in a 6-6 tie with the Arizona Cardinals
  • Philadelphia Eagles DE Brandon Graham made 3 tackles, 1 sack, and 1 forced fumble in a 21-10 win over the Minnesota Vikings
