Review of 2012 TTB Ratings

Jeremy Clark

I did a review of my TTB Ratings from 2011 here (LINK), but it’s been a while, so it’s long past time for a look at the 2012 class.

Keep in mind that the ratings (fully explained here) are intended to project how players will fare at Michigan and, to a certain extent, in the NFL Draft. I do not take into account how players will do once they get to the NFL or how they will pan out if they transfer to other programs. I will give myself a grade of 1-5 like a 5-point grading scale (5 is best, 1 is worst) for each player; I reserve the right to give myself an incomplete if the guy never made it to his first season. I’ll work down the list from highest to lowest with a brief career recap for each player:

TRANSFERS/RETIREES

Kaleb Ringer – Linebacker – Clayton (OH) Northmont
Ringer committed to Michigan in April 2011 and enrolled early in January 2012. He redshirted as a true freshman that year, and then left the team prior to the beginning of the 2013 season to transfer to Ferris State. As a redshirt freshman in 2013, he had 14 tackles and 1.5 tackles for loss in six games. He then transferred to Georgia State, where he first played in 2015, making 73 tackles, 3 tackles for loss, and 1 pass breakup. As a senior in 2016, he made 41 tackles, 1 tackle for loss, and 1 pass breakup.
Current status: Out of football

Tom Strobel – Defensive end – Mentor (OH) Mentor
Current status: Strobel redshirted as a freshman. In 2013 and 2014, he made 3 total tackles. He spent some time as an extra offensive lineman in 2015, along with making 3 tackles in spot duty on defense and special teams. As a fifth year senior in 2016, he transferred to Ohio and made 29 tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss, 0.5 sacks, and 2 pass breakups.
Current status: Out of football

Ex-Wolverine Updates: Post-2016 Recap

Kyle Bosch (#62, image via Scout)

Former OG Kyle Bosch: Bosch made 1 tackle this year, but more importantly, he started all 13 games at West Virginia and was named Second Team All-Big 12.

Former DE commit Pharaoh Brown: After missing all of 2015 while recovering from a nasty knee injury, Brown was Oregon’s starting tight end and made 33 catches for 426 yards (12.9 yards/catch) and 5 touchdowns. However, he got in some legal trouble and missed the final two games of the season. His college career is complete.

Former WR commit George Campbell: Campbell redshirted during his second year at Florida State due to injury. He will be a redshirt sophomore this coming fall.

Ex-Wolverine Updates: Week 14

Tom Strobel (image via Ohio University College of Business)

Former RB commit Damien Harris: Harris had 8 carries for 86 yards in Alabama’s 54-16 SEC Championship Game win over Florida.

Former head coach Brady Hoke: Hoke awaits his fate after Oregon head coach Mark Helfrich was fired. It’s highly unlikely that the Ducks’ new coach will retain Hoke, but nothing has been decided yet.

Former FB/LB commit David Reese II: Reese made 1 tackle and returned a block extra point for a 2-point conversion in Florida’s 54-16 loss to Alabama.

Former LB Kaleb Ringer: Ringer made 4 tackles in Georgia State’s 37-12 loss to Idaho. Georgia State finishes 3-9. Ringer made 41 tackles, 1 tackle for loss, and 1 pass breakup on the season.

Former OL/DL Tom Strobel: Strobel saved his best for (almost) last, making 7 tackles, 1 tackle for loss, and 1 pass breakup in Ohio’s hard-fought loss to Western Michigan in the MAC Championship Game, 29-23. That’s a career-best game for Strobel, who has one chance to top it when Ohio plays Troy on December 23.

Ex-Wolverine Updates: Week 13

Damien Harris (#34, image via Maroon and White Nation)

Former CB commit Gareon Conley: Conley made 1 tackle and 1 pass breakup in Ohio State’s 30-27 win over Michigan.

Former defensive coordinator D.J. Durkin: Durkin’s Maryland Terrapins moved to 6-6 and became bowl eligible with a 31-13 victory over the mighty Rutgers Scarlet Knights.

Former RB Derrick Green: Green had just 1 carry for -5 yards in TCU’s 31-9 win over Texas. At 6-6 the Horned Frogs will probably end up in a bowl game, but right now, Green has 38 carries for 141 yards (3.71 yards/carry) and 2 touchdowns on the season.
