Tre Williams, Wolverine

Clemson transfer defensive tackle Tre Williams has committed to Michigan.

Williams is a 6’2″, 315 lb. defensive lineman who had an overall grade of 66.3 from Pro Football Focus this season. He ended the year on a low note, notching grades of 46.1 and 43.1 against Texas and SMU, respectively. Overall, he played in 44 games over the past five seasons, making four starts, 44 tackles, 10 tackles for loss, 4 sacks, 3 fumble recoveries, and 2 pass breakups.

Michigan recruited Williams when he was coming out of Washington (DC) St. John’s back in 2020, but Williams understandably picked Clemson, which had won national championships in 2016 and 2018. The Wolverines had landed safety Quinten Johnson from St. John’s in the 2019 class, and that was reportedly an important connection in this second attempt to recruit Williams.

The Michigan program is losing Mason Graham and Kenneth Grant to the NFL this off-season, as well as true freshman Owen Wafle, who entered the transfer portal. Alabama’s Damon Payne has already signed with Michigan this off-season and might be one of the starters on the interior. Number three defensive tackle Rayshaun Benny is likely to return but has not made an announcement yet, and others in the mix to play a lot include Trey Pierce, Ike Iwunnah, and Enow Etta.

2020 Recruiting Update: January 31, 2019

ADDED TO THE BOARD: 2020

Bryce Austin – DT – Southfield (MI) A&T: Austin is a 6’2″, 280 lb. prospect with offers from Boston College, Michigan State, Missouri, and Pitt, among others. He’s a 247 Sports 3-star, the #22 defensive tackle, and #314 overall. He visited Ann Arbor last weekend and was given the offer while on campus. He’s a teammate of 2020 quarterback Anthony Romphf, whom Michigan offered a couple weeks ago.

Brian Branch – WR – Tyrone (GA) Sandy Creek:

 Branch is a 6’0″, 175-pounder with offers from Ohio State, Oklahoma, and Tennessee, among others. He’s a 3-star, the #26 safety, and #442 overall. As a junior in 2018, he had 5 interceptions, 15 catches for 368 yards and 3 touchdowns, and 2 kickoff return touchdowns.

Gary Bryant, Jr. – WR – Corona (CA) Centennial: Bryant is a 5’10”, 160 lb. prospect with offers from Florida, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, and USC, among others. He’s a 4-star, the #17 wide receiver, and #75 overall.

2020 Defensive Recruiting Update: February 22, 2018

Michigan has now offered 81 players in the class of 2020. Here are a bunch of the newest offers:

ADDED TO THE BOARD: 2020

St. Louis (MO) Lutheran North defensive end Kevon Billingsley was offered by Michigan. He’s a 6’4″, 245 lb. prospect with offers from Illinois, Iowa State, Kentucky, and Oklahoma, among others. He could play anywhere from strongside end to defensive tackle to interior offensive line.

Valdosta (GA) Lonwdes cornerback Josh Brown

was offered by Michigan. He’s a 5’11”, 165 lb. prospect, and Michigan is his first and only offer. Brown is a teammate of 2018 Michigan signee Michael Barrett.

Powder Springs (GA) McEachern defensive tackle Jamil Burroughs was offered by Michigan. He’s a 6’2″, 280 lb. prospect with offers from Alabama, Florida, Georgia, and South Carolina.

Mars (PA) Mars defensive end Michael Carmody was offered by Michigan. He’s a 6’6″, 220 lb. prospect with offers from Maryland, Pitt, and Temple.
