2018

Brian Asamoah – LB – Columbus (OH) St. Francis DeSales: Asamoah is a 6’0″, 205 lb. prospect with offers from Cincinnati, Michigan, Notre Dame, Penn State, Pitt, and UCLA, among others. He’s a 3-star, the #44 linebacker, and #609 overall. Right now 100% of his Crystal Ball picks are in favor of Cincinnati, and he plans to announce on April 21. It’s not clear whether he’s a take for Michigan right now, since they took so many linebackers in the 2017 class, but he has named Michigan to his top 6. UPDATE: Asamoah cancelled his visit, supposedly because Jim Harbaugh won’t be in Ann Arbor.

Trent Gordon – CB – Manvel (TX) Manvel: Gordon is a 5’11”, 172 lb. prospect with offers from Cal, Colorado, Florida, LSU, Oklahoma, Oregon, Penn State, and Texas A&M, among others. He’s a 3-star, the #38 cornerback, and #446 overall. As a junior in 2016, he made 81 tackles, 4 tackles for loss, 2 interceptions, and 10 pass breakups. He’ll be in town on Tuesday, March 14.

hes not a super elite athlete with crazy measurables and certainly not a top 5-10 at his position type of prospect but i actually really like gordons game. hes a solid CB prospect and think hed prob do ok there but i actually think he tackles and reacts and closes like a safety (albeit a currently slightly undersized S). gordon has a chance to be pretty good player and seems like the type of versatile DB brown may covet.

again, hes no superstar cant miss prospect but its hard to believe 37 recruits are rated higher (although i cant profess to know how many DBs typically receive 4 stars per cycle). i would think hes due for a bump in the rankings – and i guess some top programs have felt the same if hes landing offers from lsu, um, uf, etc.

similar to when i saw metellus on tape (though obviously different players), he just looks and plays like a 4 star to me. given the circumstances and a class on the smaller side, um will take great care in deciding which DBs can commitment (and when) but gordon looks like a player and could be a steal if hes ultimately considered 3 star
