Knowing what we now know, I’m pretty happy having traded Lyons for Countess. I can’t say it turned out quite the way I thought it would go. I was pretty sure it was Watson that was going to make me think we made a good deal. But I’ll take a 6’4″ corner with athletic ability. As a matter of fact, I’d like another if we can find him.

I don’t know. I still think Countess would have benefited from a new atmosphere and better coaching. People say that he was not good at press man coverage, but there’s no good reason – he could be physical at times, has good speed, was a pretty good tackler. I don’t know whether Roy Manning had a hugely negative effect from 2013 to 2014, but there has to be something other than “Countess can’t do press man” to blame for his drop-off between those two years.

I’m pleased with Clark’s development, but there’s no telling whether that would have come with Countess still here, either.

I’m with you Roanman I think Stribling would have beaten Countess out. I actually think they would have left Clark at S or at least not expedited the conversion the way they did, but that’s academic. I think Clark is better than Countess for this scheme too.

I think Countess was just flat out not as good as he looked in 2013, but also not as bad as he looked in 2014. Somewhere in between. I think he would have gotten better at the press stuff with better coaching, but he’s still not an ideal pairing with Lewis.

Interesting Auburn (with all their speed) is using him to return kicks though…

Nice to see Heitzman and Hayes doing well. Like with Countess it’s hard to know what role they would have had if they stuck around.
