Name: Trente Jones
Height:
6’4″
Weight:
294 lbs.
High school:
Loganville (GA) Grayson
Position:
Offensive tackle
Class:
Redshirt freshman
Jersey number:
#53
Last year:
I ranked Jones #95 and said he would redshirt (LINK). He redshirted.
TTB Rating:
88

Jones had a great season for a freshman offensive lineman: he redshirted.

Just a few seasons ago, Michigan had a dearth of offensive tackles, and any halfway decent lineman was in danger of having to play early. Now they seemingly have a plethora. Is Jones one of them? We’ll see. He plays like an offensive tackle, but he’s a little on the short side at 6’4″.

The 2020 season should be another developmental one for Jones. Michigan’s two tackles are pretty set in Jalen Mayfield and Ryan Hayes, and there are a few seasoned backups, such as Andrew Stueber (who could start at guard) and Joel Honigford. I have heard more practice hype about Jones’s classmate Trevor Keegan, who came in with a little more college-ready body. So Jones is probably on the outside looking in for now.

Prediction: Backup offensive tackle

Great to see a highly-touted, RS OL this low on the countdown.

I don’t follow the practice reports all that closely – who has been standing out the most from this class of OL? Would be great to hear that a couple from this class are pushing for early playing time.

Carpenter (center), Barnhart (guard), and Keegan (tackle) have been getting the most hype, especially the first two. I basically haven’t heard anything at all about Jack Stewart.

Love the spot. I know our OL is younger, but I am strangely confident about it. I’m not imagining a huge drop off even with losing 4 draft picks, one being Ruiz.

I see the mgoblue roster lists him Jones 6’4″, which is disappointing, I thought he was a true 6’6″ lengthy tackle. For non freshmen tackles we have Hayes, Mayfield, Keegan, Stueber, Jones and Honigford. I’m hoping Stueber has healed from his knee injury last year, but even if not we have 5 non-true freshmen bodies.

I think Keegan is going to be a very successful tackle, and Mayfield and Hayes have shown they’re going to be capable.
