True freshman defensive lineman Aaron Lewis is reportedly entering the transfer portal. Lewis enrolled at Michigan in January, but he went home along with everyone else during the COVID-19 outbreak.

Hit the jump for more.

The reason for the transfer is unknown at this point, but with all that’s going on in the world right now, you never know what’s going through someone’s head. Maybe he has a sick family member or needs to help support family affected by a job loss (UPDATE: According to this LINK, his mom got ill.)

Anyway, I ranked him at #84 in the 2020 Season Countdown (LINK), noting that he would need to add a lot of weight before he got on the field. He was a 3-star, the #17 strongside end, and #463 overall.

Players who transfer almost always end up closer to home, so I would expect the New Jersey native to end up at Rutgers or somewhere close.

Lewis is the first signee from the 2020 class to depart.

Here’s a look at the 2020 scholarship count (LINK).

Good reason for a kid to move back home. Although it was after college, I moved home to help take care of my mom who had ALS. Not an easy decision to make to leave a life I was just starting to build, but it was the best thing for the family. I imagine Aaron is feeling much the same. I pray for all the best with him and his family.
