Ann Arbor.com: 15 players slated to participate in Michigan’s pro day

March 3, 2012

Martin, Molk and Hemingway may have been the only Michigan players invited to the combine, but they surely won’t be the only Michigan seniors to make an NFL roster this fall. According to Ann Arbor.com, 15 players will participate in Michigan’s annual pro day to be held on March 15 while four will not.

Those who will: LS Tom Pomarico, RB Michael Shaw, CB Tony Anderson, CB Troy Woolfolk, LB Brandon Herron, OL Mark Huyge, WR Kelvin Grady, LB Marell Evans, DL Ryan Van Bergen, TE Steve Watson, TE Kevin Koger, WR Martavious Odoms as well as Martin, Molk and Hemingway.

Those who will not: DL Will Heininger, S Jared Van Slyke, FB John McColgan and LB J.B Fitzgerald

Undecided: S Zac Johnson

It surprises me that JB Fitzgerald isn't participating, any particular reason why?

Fitzgerald mentioned in his "Wolverine Nation" exit interview that he's not pursuing a football career any further. He just doesn't really have the heart for it, it seems, and since he never really earned a starting job in college, he probably just sees the writing on the wall.

Not sure. He's a Sport Management major who's seen some PT, so I'm a little bit surprised by that, too.

Question; I'm not really familiar with how college pro days work….but the 4 not participating, Is that because of injury, no desire (on the part of the player), or does the school itself just not want these players participating for whatever reason. I'm guessing it could be a combination of all 3…but just wondering what the specifics were of the 4 not participing this year.

I'm curious about Stonum. He has NFL talent and might benefit from the pro day, but I wonder if his suspension is keeping him from attending. I hope that's not the case.

Where do you see Kevin Koger getting selected in the draft? I'm hoping the Giants can snatch him up in the 6th round.

I think Koger is a 5th-to-7th rounder. Even though he started for four years, he's just not a very smooth pass receiver…and that seems to be what most teams are looking for in tight ends these days.
