2023 Season Countdown: #135 Charlie Lovell

Charlie Lovell (image via Twitter)

Name: Charlie Lovell
Height: 6’3″
Weight: 235 lbs.
High school: Pinckney (MI) Pinckney
Position: EDGE
Class: Redshirt freshman
Jersey number: #73
Last year: I did not rank Lovell. He redshirted.
TTB Rating: N/A

Lovell is the son of former Michigan kicker Erik Lovell, a backup who made 1/1 field goal attempts in his career, with the lone make coming in a 41-14 win over Washington State in 1993. The younger Lovell made 87 tackles, 17 tackles for loss, 21 quarterback pressures, 4 sacks, 3 forced fumbles, and 2 pass breakups as a senior in 2021. He then redshirted as a freshman last season.

Lovell is probably not going to play much, if at all, in 2022. He plays a position with a lot of depth, and at 6’3″ and 235 lbs., he’s undersized for the spot, too.

Prediction: Backup EDGE

2023 Season Countdown: #136 Nico Andrighetto

Nico Andrighetto with former high school teammate Nikko Pohahau, who plays for UConn (image via Twitter)

Name: Nico Andrighetto
Height:
5’9″
Weight:
187 lbs.
High school:
Mountain View (CA) St. Francis
Position:
Safety
Class:
Redshirt reshman
Jersey number:
#31
Last year:
I ranked Andrighetto #129 and said he would redshirt (LINK). He played in one game on special teams.
TTB Rating:
 N/A

Andrighetto is the younger brother of Lucas Andrighetto, who was a walk-on running back from 2018-2021. So there has been an Andrighetto on the team since 2018, whether you knew it or not. The younger Andrighetto is a safety who played in the 56-10 beatdown of Hawaii. With a lot of talent at safety, Nico is unlikely to play much of a role for the Wolverines in 2023.

Prediction: Backup defensive back

2023 Season Countdown: #137 Logan Forbes

Logan Forbes at Clarkston (image via Hudl)

Name: Logan Forbes
Height:
6’2″
Weight:
192 lbs.
High school:
Clarkston (MI) Clarkston/Oakdale (CT) St. Thomas More
Position:
Wide receiver
Class:
Redshirt freshman
Jersey number:
#35
Last year:
I did not rank Forbes. He played in one game on special teams.
TTB Rating:
 N/A

Forbes is a second-year walk-on from Clarkston. He caught 46 passes for 968 yards and 12 touchdowns as a senior at Oakdale (CT) St. Thomas More, which is a pretty impressive output. He has decent size for a scout team receiver, though he does not have great explosiveness. He played in one game in 2022 as a special teamer, and that’s probably his ceiling.

Prediction: Backup wide receiver

2024 Recruiting Update: April 10, 2023

Esko (MN) Lincoln safety Koi Perich (image via Twitter)

COMMITMENT

Kansas City (MO) Rockhurst offensive tackle Andrew Sprague committed to Michigan (LINK). I also wrote a scouting report on him (LINK).

ADDED TO THE BOARD: 2024

Sacramento (CA) Grant Union linebacker Kingston Lopa decommitted from Arizona. Lopa is a 6’5″, 190-pounder who plays safety but is ranked as a linebacker (3-star, #55 LB, #604 overall). The decommitment came a month after being offered by Notre Dame and a couple days after one from Texas.

Michigan offered Esko (MN) Lincoln safety Koi Perich. Perich visited Ann Arbor a couple weekends ago but left without an offer; however, Michigan came back a little over a week later with an offer. He’s a 4-star and the #28 safety to 247 Sports. Illinois, Iowa, Minnesota, Nebraska, Washington, and others have also fofered.

Hit the jump for more.

2023 Season Countdown: #138 Daniel Taraboi

Joey Klunder (#93) and Daniel Taraboi (#66) (image via Twitter)

Name: Daniel Taraboi
Height:
6’7″
Weight:
313 lbs.
High school:
Cedarburg (WI) Cedarburg
Position:
Offensive tackle
Class:
Redshirt freshman
Jersey number:
#66
Last year:
I ranked Taraboi #127 and said he would redshirt (LINK). He played in one game and kept his redshirt.
TTB Rating:
 N/A

Like everyone else without an ACL tear on Michigan’s roster, Taraboi got to play in Michigan’s 59-0 trouncing of UConn. After being listed at 6’6″ and 295 lbs. coming in, he’s now up to 6’7″ and 313 lbs. on the official roster. That’s a huge man to just be standing on the sideline during home games. Michigan is so deep on the offensive line that there’s virtually no chance of Taraboi challenging for playing time other than late in blowout games.

Prediction: Backup offensive tackle
