Early Enrollees for 2016

Early Enrollees for 2016

December 18, 2015

Brandon Peters

There has been a lot of discussion about who will enroll early this January, but timetables have changed again and again, preventing me from getting a good grip on who’s doing what and when. So here’s a look at which commitments will enroll in January and participate in spring practices:

JANUARY 2016
LB Devin Bush, Jr.
RB Kingston Davis
DE Carlo Kemp
TE Sean McKeon
WR Ahmir Mitchell
QB Brandon Peters
RB Kareem Walker

Wow, those are some pretty heavy hitters enrolling early. I like it!

It should help that Walker and Davis will be around for spring practice. That’ll let the RB pecking order clarify a bit before Fall. It’ll also establish expectations for fitness, blocking, fumbling, etc. – areas that you don’t always see freshman well prepared for.

That said, I’d expect to see roster attrition happen at RB before signing day — so that Michigan avoids the appearance of oversigning.

Bush is obviously the other guy with an evident opportunity from playing time, that you’d expect could benefit from the extra coaching/practice/conditioning time.

6 is the maximum we can take in for early enrollment, right?

So this 6 represents Harbaugh’s picks for immediate help or high priority development. Of course the kids themselves would have to want to enroll early, too. Anyway I like the six, and it shows that these six were more of a priority than Reese, who is now at Florida and wanted to enroll early.

Love that two RBs are already in. We should be able to see a depth chart developing very soon and some upperclassmen will probably leave.

Thunder, I love the sight and your analysis. I’m wondering where to locate YOUR current recruit rankings for current Michigan commits? I wanted to see how you rated Peters, Mitchell, K. Davis, etc. I can’t find it on the new site.

It’s funny that you mention it, because I’m thinking about the best way to display those today since I have some free time. Currently, they are only displayed on each commit’s commitment post. When I decide on a system for displaying those, I’ll probably mention it in a recruiting update or at least on the front page to make everyone aware.
