Ex-Wolverine Updates: Week 1

If you’re like me, sometimes you wonder “What happened to _____________?” But the difference between you and me is that I’m nerdy enough to research it. So here are a bunch of former Michigan players, coaches, and commits, and how they’re faring at their new schools.

Former DE commit Pharaoh Brown: Brown made 1 catch for 23 yards in Oregon’s 53-28 win over UC-Davis. He’s back on the field after suffering a devastating knee injury in 2014 and missing the entire 2015 season.

Former CB commit Gareon Conley: Conley made 2 tackles and 1 pass breakup in Ohio State’s 77-10 win over Bowling Green State University.

Former CB commit Shaun Crawford: Crawford made 5 tackles and 1 interception (returned for 22 yards) in a 50-47 Notre Dame loss to Texas. He also returned a blocked extra point for a 2-point conversion.

Hit the jump for many more updates on former Michigan players and coaches.

Former RB/CB Ross Douglas: Douglas made 1 tackle for Rutgers as they suffered a 48-13 loss to Washington.

Former RB commit Matt Falcon: Falcon, who signed with Western Michigan, is not listed on the Broncos roster. I have not been able to determine why he’s not a part of the program.

Former RB Derrick Green: Green, who is second on the depth chart at TCU behind Kyle Hicks, had 5 carries for 25 yards in a 59-41 win over South Dakota State.

Former RB commit Damien Harris: Harris had 9 carries for 138 yards (15.3 yards/carry) but managed not to score a touchdown in Alabama’s 52-6 win over USC.

Former head coach Brady Hoke: Hoke, now the defensive coordinator at Oregon, did not have a great debut. Oregon gave up 393 yards (#82 in the country) and 28 points (#90), and that was against UC-Davis, an FBS team. It was a 53-28 win for the Ducks, though, so all’s well that ends well, I guess.

Former LB signee Antonio Kinard: Kinard made 3 tackles in Cincinnati’s 28-7 win over Tennessee-Martin.

Former LB commit Darrin Kirkland, Jr.: Kirkland made 9 tackles in Tennessee’s narrow win over Appalachian State, 20-13.

Former DT Ondre Pipkins: Pipkins made 5 tackles and 1 tackle for loss in Texas Tech’s 69-17 win over Stephen F. Austin.

Former CB commit Antwaine Richardson: Richardson made 2 tackles and 1 pass breakup in Maryland’s 52-13 win over Howard.

Former LB Kaleb Ringer: Ringer made 8 tackles in Georgia State’s 31-21 loss to Ball State.

Former head coach Rich Rodriguez: Arizona lost its season opener to BYU by a score of 18-16. Running back Nick Wilson ran 17 times for 138 yards and 2 touchdowns, but quarterback Anu Solomon was 20/30 for 213 yards, 0 touchdowns, and 2 picks.

Former DE commit Darian Roseboro: Roseboro made 2 tackles and 1 tackle for loss in North Carolina State’s 48-14 win over William & Mary.

Former CB commit Sir Patrick Scott: Scott, who ended up signing with Marshall, was ineligible to play for the Thundering Herd. The pretty much confirms that he wasn’t qualified to sign with Michigan.

Former OL/DL Tom Strobel: Strobel, who played both offensive and defensive line at Michigan in 2015, is a defensive tackle for Ohio. He made 3 tackles in a 56-54 loss to Texas State.

Former RB commit Mike Weber: Weber had 19 carries for 136 yards (7.2 yards/carry) in Ohio State’s 77-10 win over BGSU.

To be fair to Hoke, the Ducks defense only gave up 105 yards at roughly 3 per play in the first half. It was 32-7 before UC Davis started scoring in what was essentially 2nd half garbage time.

It’s still UCDavis… I have a neighbor whose kid is on the team. They shouldn’t score even one TD against a P5 D

Sucks that Falcon’s career may be over

Thanks for doing this Thunder, great read!

Hey man, Mississippi State lost to the South Alabama Jaguars, so FCS schools scoring touchdowns happens sometimes. Oregons defense was a tire fire last year.

To be fair, South Alabama is a part of the Sun Belt conference, which is a part of FBS.

Re Matt Falcon: a poster on MLive says he’s greyshirting so career’s not over.
He’s active on Twitter and it looks like he’s enrolled at WMU and was at fall camp with the team. Not sure if greyshirts can participate in workouts.

Guess we won’t be missing Green being on the roster anytime soon. Imagine how life could’ve been with Weber or Harris though…especially Harris.

It would be nice to get an update on George Campbell. I recall he was briefly committed back in the Brady Hoke days. Ended up going to FSU?

I checked on him, but he didn’t register in the stat book last week. If guys don’t register stats, I generally leave them out of the weekly updates. EDIT: Yes, he is at FSU.

Dang. Some of these guys would have been a-maizing.

And no McDowell talk? Is he still in play?

I am rooting for Derek Green to offer yet another example disproving the argument that Fred Jackson lost his mojo.

Rodriguez is making it hard for his apologists (including me) to stick with with the argument that he deserved to keep the Michigan job.

Unfortunate how the Harris and Weber situations played out. But hey – we have Chris Evans now! I’m pretty excited about the Thunder and Lightning potential of Smith and Evans.
