Ex-Wolverine Updates: Week 2

September 16, 2015

Blake Countess (#24)

Former QB Russell Bellomy: In a 30-3 loss to Kansas State, Bellomy was 3/4 for 36 yards for the University of Texas-San Antonio. He also had 4 carries for 4 yards.

Former CB Blake Countess: The big story for Countess is that he was ejected for “targeting” on a tackle against Jacksonville State. It was a poor call, in my opinion, as he just happened to hit the runner’s head as he slid to the ground. Countess made 3 tackles before the ejection.

Former CB commit Gareon Conley: In victories against Virginia Tech (42-24)and Hawaii (38-0), Conley has notched 9 tackles, .5 tackles for loss, .5 sacks, 1 interception, and 2 pass breakups.

Hit the jump for updates on several more former Wolverines and commits.

Former CB commit Dallas Crawford: Crawford made 6 tackles and recovered 1 fumble, which he returned for 10 yards, in Miami’s 44-20 victory over Florida Atlantic.

Former RB commit Damien Harris: Harris had 8 carries for 55 yards (6.9 yards/carry), 1 catch for 8 yards, and 1 tackle in Alabama’s 37-10 win over Middle Tennessee State.

Former RB Justice Hayes: Hayes had 9 carries for 53 yards (5.9 yards/carry) and 1 touchdown, plus 2 catches for 31 yards, in Southern Miss’s 52-6 win over Austin Peay.

Former LB commit Antonio Kinard: How about those Temple Owls? They started off the year by upsetting Penn State, and now they beat Cincinnati by a score of 34-26 to make their way to 2-0. Kinard played but did not record any statistics.

Former LB commit Darrin Kirkland, Jr.: Kirkland made 2 tackles but Tennessee lost to Oklahoma in double overtime, 31-24.

Former RB/WR/CB Dennis Norfleet: In game one for Tuskegee, Norfleet – who is wearing #18 and listed as a 5’7″, 168 lb. running back – ran 7 times for 27 yards, caught 1 pass for 46 yards, and returned 1 kickoff for 17 yards. That first collegiate touchdown is still eluding him. Tuskegee won over Clark Atlanta, 26-0.

Former LB Kaleb Ringer: Ringer made 2 tackles in Georgia State’s 34-32 win over New Mexico State.

Former head coach Rich Rodriguez: Rodriguez and Arizona are 2-0 after a 44-20 win over Nevada. Wildcats running back Nick Wilson ran 21 times for 194 yards and 3 touchdowns.

Former CB commit Anthony Standifer: Standifer’s Eastern Illinois team has yet to score a touchdown in two games this season. After scoring a field goal and a safety in a week one loss, they got shut out by Northwestern in week two by a score of 41-0. Standifer made 4 tackles.

Gareon Conley has likely been the Buckeyes best defensive player over their first two games. Sigh!!!

His family wants to make a big deal over Hoke threatening to pull his schollie, but that’s just the excuse for decommitting, he was gone the second Meyer called.

Yeah, and as it has been mentioned elsewhere, Michigan’s “policy” was not necessarily to yank scholarships but to continue recruiting the position as if you’re not committed. I’m sure the Conley family is playing it up because now that he’s at Ohio State, they have a reason to show dislike for Michigan. Now he’s basically a local hero who spurned the enemy for the hometown favorites because of their terrible misdeeds, but in reality, he just liked Ohio State better all along.
