Saint Louis (MO) Cardinal Ritter wide receiver Fredrick Moore committed to Michigan on Saturday, July 1. He picked the Wolverines over offers from Iowa, Penn State, and Texas A&M, among others.

Moore is listed at 6’0″ and 175 lbs. As a junior in 2021, he caught 41 passes for 1,010 yards and 12 touchdowns.

Moore was offered during the evaluation period back in April, and things heated up fairly quickly. He had early strong interest in the Wolverines, and buzz started to come out that he might be a Wolverine sooner rather than later. On consecutive weekends in June, he visited Illinois, then Michigan, and then Michigan State. He set an announcement date for July 1, and there was really no doubt that he would pick the Wolverines at that point.

Moore’s production is outstanding. You’re doing something right when you average over 24 yards per catch and have over 1,000 yards receiving on 41 receptions. And Moore does it on a variety of types of catches, from screens that he takes the distance to deep shots and 50/50 balls. He shows some good acceleration, and I think one of the better aspects of his game is his ability to run in- and out-breaking routes without losing too much speed. He also has long arms and can catch the ball away from his body.

On the negative side, I have questions about Moore’s speed. While he does have excellent on-field production, he ran an 11.55 in the 100 meters as a sophomore – which is nothing too special – and does not have great top-end speed on film. His big plays are largely built on the craftiness of his route running, the space created by his offensive play designers, and his willingness to be daring, hit holes, and make something happen. In other words, he’s aggressive in the way he plays, which may not translate when opposing players are faster, stronger, and more savvy.

Overall, Moore is a decent prospect. He’s not going to average 24 yards per catch in college, and he’s not going to be a big run-after-catch guy like Ronnie Bell. I think he’s a guy who can get open underneath and then get tackled pretty easily. He reminds me a little bit – a little bit, so don’t get overly excited – of Steve Breaston with his gait, because he’s skinny and sometimes has that runnin’ bumblin’ stumblin’ look to him but still gets the job done. Moore will have to add some strength to his lower body to be able to translate some of those wobbly moments into a more solid running base.

Moore was Michigan’s seventh commit – followed by linebacker Semaj Bridgeman on Saturday – and the first wide receiver. The last time Michigan landed a prospect from Missouri was in 2018, when both Hassan Haskins and Ronnie Bell signed with the Wolverines. No player from Cardinal Ritter has suited up for the Wolverines.
