Merrillville (IN) Merrillville defensive tackle Kenneth Grant

Merrillville (IN) Merrillville defensive tackle Kenneth Grant committed to Michigan on September 28, 2021. Being in the midst of football season myself, I simply didn’t have time to post about him then and let it slide for a couple months. I apologize for the delay.

Grant picked Michigan over offers from Ohio State and Wisconsin, where he took official visits, and a several other schools.

Grant is listed at 6’4″ and 335 lbs., and he looks all of that. I would not have been surprised if he were listed at 6’5″ or 6’6″. He dwarfs his opponents in Indiana, and he will also look huge in a college uniform. Grant shows excellent quickness and athleticism for his size. His highlights show frequent use of a swim move, and he even works in a spin. He bends fairly well for a guy his size and changes direction pretty well.

I would like to see Grant work on his hand strike going into college; he’s quicker than a lot of high school linemen, but he’s going to have to engage blockers more often in college. I also think he will be another player who will have to watch his weight in college, just like former Wolverines Michael Onwenu, William Campbell, etc.

Overall, Grant is a very solid prospect who looks like former Michigan nose tackle Gabe Watson. Watson was listed at 6’4″ and 331 lbs. as a senior. He never really seemed to reach his potential, as he always seemed to be out of shape. He would flash on occasion and became a 4th round pick of the Cardinals. Grant has a very similar body type and skill set, though I think Grant moves laterally a little bit better. Grant will probably be a two-down 0-tech or shade.
