Note: No Maryland preview

November 1, 2019

Believe me when I say it stresses me out when I can’t put out my regular content each week. I don’t talk much about my personal life, but you would probably consider me an insane person if you knew everything else going on in my daily existence and then considered I was still trying to keep up a blog.

I apologize, but I just have no choice but to prioritize other things at the moment.

Thanks for reading (or at least attempting to read), and Go Blue!

Prediction: Michigan 42, Maryland 13

    M Rushing
The last two games have seen the emergence of Hassan Haskins as a viable back. He and Charbonnet should account for 75% of the running back snaps in non-garbage time, with Wilson taking the majority of what’s left, and limited carries for the rest of the stable. If the OL keeps playing how well they played vs. ND, we could stick Denard Robinson in at RB on crutches and still be successful. Against upper-echelon big ten teams (and 9Windiana), Maryland has allowed ~5 ypc. Against the other big ten teams (and Syracuse), they’ve been closer to 3. I don’t think their 3-4ish defense with undersized interior DL is going to be able to holster Michigan’s rushing attack. Their two most productive interior DL have 33 tackles together. We will make it to the second level, and we’ll be closer to 5 or 6 YPC in a game where we have 3:1 rushing to passing yards.
    Advantage Michigan.

    M Passing
Against Minnesota, Maryland only allowed 177 passing yards at 8 ypp. That was more due to the 321 rushing yards they allowed. Indiana averaged 8.1 ypp with 334 yards, Purdue put up 420 yards at 10.2 ypp, and Penn State put up 431 passing yards at 10.5 ypp. Their passing defense is not good, but I can’t pin in on any one thing. Their corners don’t look terrible, but they don’t have an aggressive mentality so when they play press, they’re not jamming receivers. When they play man with a cushion they’re not bad but I’ve seen a few busted plays. When they’re in zone I’ve seen more busted plays. Their pass rush doesn’t look bad, but running the 2-4 if their blitzes don’t hit the quarterback will have some time. I can see Patterson getting some happy feet having to account for 5 rushers, but I don’t think it’ll affect him too badly.
    Advantage: Michigan

All the best Thunder! Go Blue.

The Michigan team we’ve seen these last few weeks seems to be better in every facet of the game and should dominate Maryland. BUT – the inconsistency vs evolution debate continues on with fans.

Will we see a return to the early season offensive bumbling and turnovers?

Will offensive genius Mike Locksley outthink Don Brown?

Will Michigan’s lack of size in the front 7 get exploited?

I doubt it very much on all 3. But strange things can happen on the road.

Key matchup: weird road stuff vs Michigan continuing to settle into their offense

It’s arguably the least compelling game of the year followed by a bye week!

Hope life slows down for you soon, Thunder.

Thanks for summary JC. I’ll throw out a prediction:
31-20… UM somehow makes this close.

Tks. Even the blind squirrel finds a nut some days. I’ll be back before MSU but I think UM rolls them by a similar type score Again two teams moving in different directions and I think JH would love to send Mork out with a big L

Thanks! It’s playoff time, so hopefully there are a few more weeks of chaos…

These are 2 teams moving in opposite directions. UM is finding its stride and barring fumbles will not let Maryland in this game. Run game continues it’s success allowing Patterson to hit some open WRs for chunk gains. Defense is gaining confidence and not going to allow Maryland to sustain any drives. UM 21-3 at half and 38-10 final. Take a week off and get ready for the corpse of MSU.

Will Gattis & Loxley share an after game drink and talk about their shared good times at Bama?

Consistent excellence, game after game, is what I am still waiting to see from Michigan’s football program. Maybe this time it will happen.
