Hit the jump for a lot more recruiting news from the past week.

ADDED TO THE BOARD: 2017
Los Angeles (CA) Los Angeles defensive end Martin Andrus, Jr. was offered by Michigan. He’s a 6’3″, 280 lb. prospect with offers from LSU, Notre Dame, Oregon, Stanford, UCLA, and USC, among others. He’s a 247 Composite 4-star, the #11 defensive tackle, and #166 overall. Andrus is likely to end up playing his ball on the west coast.

ADDED TO THE BOARD: 2018
Dearborn (MI) Divine Child defensive end Aidan Hutchinson was offered by Michigan. He’s a 6’5″, 234 lb. prospect with offers from LSU and Vanderbilt. As a sophomore in 2015, he made 57 tackles, 5 tackles for loss, and 2 forced fumbles. He visited for Michigan’s spring game and there’s a very good chance he ends up signing with the Wolverines, though his first offer came from LSU. He’s the son of former Michigan All-American defensive lineman Chris Hutchinson.

ADDED TO THE BOARD: 2019
Murrieta (CA) Vista Murrieta defensive end Keyon Ware-Hudson was offered by Michigan. Ware-Hudson is a 6’2″, 236 lb. prospect whose lone offer comes from the Wolverines. As a freshman in 2015, he made 70 tackles, 6.5 sacks, 1 interception (returned for a TD), 1 fumble recovery (returned for a TD), 2 forced fumbles, and 1 blocked field goal. If you watch his film, you will see a kid who does not have the look of a high school freshman playing on varsity. He has plenty of things to work on, but if I told you he was a junior or maybe even a senior on film, you wouldn’t bat an eyelash. He is the teammate of 2017 offensive tackle Chuck Filiaga.

OFF THE BOARD
Port Washington (WI) Port Washington offensive tackle Tyler Beach committed to Wisconsin. Beach was one of three Michigan offerees at offensive line from the Badger State, but all three (Beach, Alex Fenton, Logan Bruss) are committed to the Badgers. That’s just one more reason to appreciate how difficult it was for Michigan to reel in Ben Bredeson in the 2016 class.

Powder Springs (GA) McEachern quarterback Bailey Hockman committed to Florida State. The former Georgia commit was my #2 option at quarterback when I did my QB scouting earlier this off-season (LINK).

Park Ridge (IL) Maine South offensive guard Kevin Jarvis committed to Michigan State. He reacted positively to his Michigan offer, but he was still considered to be leaning toward the Spartans for a while.

Plain City (OH) Alder tight end Trey Pugh committed to Northwestern. He was being recruited fairly heavily by Michigan, but the Wolverines have struggled to pull in tight ends in the 2017 class. That may be because the depth chart is fairly uninviting. Recruits seem reticent to join up in this class.

Fort Wayne (IN) Wayne defensive end Auston Robertson, a 2016 prospect, signed his National Letter of Intent to Michigan State. Robertson was committed to MSU for several months, but some legal trouble threw his recruitment into some limbo shortly before National Signing Day. He backed off his pledge for a couple months and then signed with the Spartans before the NLI signing period ended on April 1.

MISCELLANEOUS
I posted a monster list of visitors to Michigan for this past weekend’s spring game and junior day, the latter of which took place on Saturday (LINK).

A bunch of prospects released lists of their top schools in the last week. A brief rundown:

  • Bradenton (FL) IMG Academy linebacker Jordan Anthony named Michigan to his top five.
  • Cheshire (CT) Cheshire Academy wide receiver Tarik Black named Michigan to his top five. The other four are Alabama, Notre Dame, Stanford, and UCLA.
  • Oxford (AL) Oxford linebacker K.J. Britt named a top five that includes Michigan.
  • Plantation (FL) American Heritage offensive tackle Kai-Leon Herbert named Michigan to his top ten. He’s a teammate of offensive tackle Tedarrell Slaton, who has previously named Michigan his leader.
  • Bradenton (FL) IMG Academy linebacker Will Ignont named a top ten that included Michigan at #4 behind Georgia, Auburn, and UCLA.
  • Madison (AL) Bob Jones offensive guard Kendall Randolph named Michigan to his top ten. Michigan is holding a satellite camp at his school in June.
  • Bradenton (FL) IMG Academy center Cesar Ruiz named Michigan his leader. He was previously a teammate of incoming Michigan freshmen Brad Hawkins, Jr. and Ron Johnson, Jr.
  • Tre’ Shaw named Michigan to his top ten
  • Bradenton (FL) IMG Academy defensive tackle Cam Spence named Michigan to his top fifteen. This is fairly impressive, since he does not have a Michigan offer just yet.
  • Ellenwood (GA) Cedar Grove quarterback Jelani Woods named Michigan to his top three. The other two are Oklahoma State and South Carolina.

Are we about to enter a slow period in recruiting before the summer tours and camps kick off? With spring ball over, and kids back in school after spring break it feels like there may not be much news for a month or 2,

It’s quite possible. There’s usually some activity around this time of year, and then there’s activity in June and July when kids have a chance to visit more places over the summer. There will definitely be a lot of news in June when Michigan starts holding satellite camps again, and some kids want to get their commitments done and over with before they start their senior years.

I believe that Powder Springs McEachern quarterback Bailey Hockman is from Georgia but the post seems to indicate Michigan. I did a double-take wondering why Michigan was not a prime contender.

You are absolutely correct. That was a typo on my part. Thanks.
