Recruiting Update: June 1, 2015

Houston (TX) Langham Creek running back Toneil Carter

ADDED TO THE BOARD: 2016
Bend (OR) Summit tight end Cameron McCormick, an Oregon commit, was offered by Michigan. He’s a 6’5″, 230 lb. prospect who also holds offers from Arizona, Arizona State, Oregon State, UCLA, and Washington, among others. He’s a 247 Composite 3-star, the #28 tight end, and #625 overall. As a junior in 2014, he caught 35 passes for 491 yards and 8 touchdowns. McCormick is a versatile player who could be an in-line tight end or an H-back, but he’s also a playmaker on defense, where he shows nice speed, a nose for the football, and a willingness to punish quarterbacks and ball carriers. He could feasibly end up on either side of the ball. Michigan probably has no real shot at pulling him away from the Ducks.

ADDED TO THE BOARD: 2017
Houston (TX) Langham Creek running back Toneil Carter was offered by Michigan. He’s a 5’11”, 198 lb. prospect with offers from Alabama, Georgia, LSU, Texas, and Texas A&M, among others. He’s a 247 Sports 4-star, the #3 running back, and #26 overall. As a sophomore in 2014, he carried the ball 189 times for 1,382 yards and 19 touchdowns. Carter has a nice combination of power and speed, and he also shows some nice wiggle in the hole.

Sebastian (FL) Sebastian defensive end Jarez Parks was offered by Michigan. He’s a 6’4″, 245 lb. prospect who also holds an offer from South Florida. He has a large frame that will probably see him grow into a strongside end or maybe even a defensive tackle by the time he’s finished growing.

Hit the jump for some guys who committed elsewhere, some top lists, and some random tidbits.

OFF THE BOARD
Orlando (FL) Dr. Phillips offensive tackle Calvin Ashley committed to Auburn. Ashley is a 6’7″, 307 lb. prospect and the #4 overall player in the 2017 class. He was one of Michigan’s first offers for 2017.

Arlington (TX) Bowie offensive guard Tope Imade committed to Texas. Michigan just offered Imade a little over a week before he committed to the Longhorns, and he was considered a Texas lean all along.

Reading (PA) Exeter Township offensive tackle Michael Menet committed to Penn State. Michigan pushed hard for Menet at a couple junctures, but he never seemed that interested. He recently released a top two that included Duke and Penn State, and despite Duke’s recent success, it wasn’t tough to figure out which way this one would go.

Niceville (FL) Niceville wide receiver Eli Stove committed to Auburn. He did not appear to be interested in his Michigan offer at any point. The Wolverines have also offered his 2016 teammate, safety Romeo Finley, although Finley has also not expressed a great deal of interest.

MISCELLANEOUS
Here’s a list of visitors from this past weekend (LINK). Do not be surprised if Michigan gets a commit in the near future.

Here’s a list of 2017 prospects visiting this coming Tuesday (LINK).

Here’s my scouting report on 2016 defensive end Ron Johnson, Jr. (LINK).

Oakland (CA) Bishop O’Dowd linebacker Camilo Eifler named a top six that includes Michigan; the other teams on the list are Cal, Oregon, Texas A&M, UCLA, and Washington. He’s the #224 overall player in the 247 Composite. He took an unofficial visit to Ann Arbor in early April.

Green Bay (WI) Bay Port offensive tackle Cole Van Lanen named a top four that includes Michigan; the other teams on the list are Iowa, Michigan State, and Wisconsin. He’s the #195 overall player in the 247 Composite. He took an unofficial visit to Ann Arbor in early May.

Visitors: May 29-31, 2015

Hartland (WI) Arrowhead offensive tackle Ben Bredeson

If you would also like to donate to the site redesign drive, please use Paypal (on the left sidebar) or do some shopping on Amazon (LINK). The new site is tentatively scheduled to launch on June 7. Thanks!
——————

2016
Ben Bredeson – OT – Hartland (WI) Arrowhead: Bredeson is a 6’5″, 293 lb. prospect who has offers from Michigan, Notre Dame, and Wisconsin – the group that appears to be his top three – as well as numerous others. He’s a 247 Composite 5-star, the #4 offensive tackle, and #26 overall. Bredeson’s brother, Jack, is committed to Michigan to play baseball, and Ben has visited Ann Arbor multiple times. Wisconsin leads the Crystal Ball picks with 79%, and Michigan is second with 17%. A decision is expected in the next several weeks.

Kiante Enis – S – Winchester (IN) Community: Enis is a 6’1″, 200 lb. prospect with offers from Cincinnati, Indiana, Michigan, and Michigan State, among others. He’s a 247 Composite 3-star, the #52 running back, and #710 overall. Enis carried the ball 299 times for 3,189 yards and 49 touchdowns as a junior in 2014. Michigan is recruiting him as an athlete, and he could play running back, wide receiver, or safety at the next level. This will be his first visit to Michigan.

Chris Evans – RB – Indianapolis (IN) Ben Davis: Evans is a 5’11”, 186 lb. prospect with offers from Illinois, Indiana, Minnesota, and Purdue, among others. He’s a 247 Composite 4-star, the #6 all-purpose back, and #293 overall. As a junior in 2014, he had 185 carries for 1,249 yards and 18 touchdowns, plus 51 catches for 676 yards and 10 touchdowns. With no offer from the Wolverines, it’s unclear whether the coaching staff wants another running backs, wants to keep tabs on Evans as a backup plan, or might want him to play another position. Somewhat like Enis, Evans could play wideout or safety at the next level.

Hit the jump for a couple more 2016 visitors and a 2017 prospect.

Matt Falcon – RB – Southfield (MI) Southfield: Falcon committed to Michigan in April (LINK).

Khalid Kareem – DE – Farmington Hills (MI) Harrison: Kareem is a 6’4″, 240 lb. prospect with offers from Alabama, Michigan, Michigan State, and Notre Dame, along with numerous others. He’s a 247 Composite 4-star, the #13 strongside end, and #187 overall. Harrison was committed to MSU for a short time but backed off that pledge. There have been reports that his family has not been fond of the way Michigan has recruited him up to this point, but the retooled recruiting staff is making an effort to bridge the gap.

Austin Mack – WR – Fort Wayne (IN) Bishop Luers: Mack is a 6’2″, 205 lb. prospect with offers from Michigan, Notre Dame, and Ohio State – again, a group that makes up his top list – along with others. He’s a 247 Composite 4-star, the #20 wide receiver, and #131 overall. As a junior in 2014, he caught 69 passes for 1,062 yards and 15 touchdowns. Mack had Michigan as his leader early, but the Buckeyes have since taken over. He plans to announce his college decision on June 7, which will likely be Ohio State (90% of the Crystal Balls so far)..

Brandon Peters – QB – Avon (IN) Avon: Peters committed to Michigan in April (LINK).

Auston Robertson – DE – Fort Wayne (IN) Wayne: Robertson is a 6’5″, 230 lb. prospect whose top three consists of Michigan State, Notre Dame, and Michigan, the latter of which replaced Ohio State after a recent visit. He’s a 247 Composite 4-star, the #6 weakside end, and #100 overall. Robertson is expected to choose Michigan State on June 7, when he announces at the same camp as Mack. A late move up into a top list usually means that that team will not be the choice. Still, Michigan has a fighting chance if they can make it a good experience.

J.D. Spielman – WR – Eden Prairie (MN) Eden Prairie: Spielman is a 5’9″, 175 lb. prospect with offers from Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota, and Nebraska. He’s a 247 Composite 3-star, the #57 athlete, and #836 overall. Spielman is the son of Minnesota Vikings general manager Rick Spielman and the nephew of former Detroit Lion (and Ohio State Buckeye) Chris Spielman. Also an accomplished lacrosse player, he is expected to choose college football instead.

Donald Stewart – WR – Paramus (NJ) Catholic: The 6’4″, 180 lb. prospect has offers from Iowa, Michigan, Northwestern, Pitt, and Rutgers, among others. He’s a 247 Composite 3-star, the #130 wide receiver, and #883 overall. Stewart has not visited Michigan before, but two former Paladins are on the roster (Jabrill Peppers, Juwann Bushell-Beatty), his former head coach is the recruiting coordinator (Chris Partridge), and teammate Rashan Gary – the nation’s #1 player – has Michigan in his top group after a spring visit. Stewart has stated that Michigan is his leader, and 88% of the Crystal Balls are in the Wolverines’ favor.

2017
Corey Malone-Hatcher – DE – St. Joseph’s (MI) St. Joseph’s:
Malone-Hatcher is a 6’3″, 246 lb. prospect with offers from Alabama, Michigan, and Notre Dame, among others. He’s a 247 Sports 4-star, the #8 weakside end, and #193 overall. Malone-Hatcher seems at least somewhat enamored with Alabama, which seems to be the most likely landing spot. He was supposed to visit for Michigan’s [rising] junior day on Tuesday, but he can’t make it and will visit this weekend instead

Dylan McCaffrey – QB – Littleton (CO) Valor Christian: McCaffrey is a 6’5″, 200 lb. prospect who has offers from Colorado, Duke, Michigan, Penn State, and UCLA. He’s a 247 Sports 4-star, the #3 pro-style quarterback, and #47 overall. McCaffrey is the son of former NFL wide receiver Ed McCaffrey (who went to Stanford) and the brother of Stanford running back Christian McCaffrey, so Stanford is thought to be an offer Dylan wants.

2018
Will Mallory – WR – Jacksonville (FL) Providence:
Mallory is a 6’3″ prospect whose lone offer comes from the Wolverines. He is the son of Mike Mallory, a former Michigan player who is now the special teams coach for the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Recruiting Update: May 26, 2015

Plantation (FL) American Heritage defensive end Brian Burns (#99)

NOTE: I posted a short recruiting update on 2018 prospects yesterday (LINK).

ADDED TO THE BOARD: 2016
New Orleans (LA) Brother Martin tight end Peyton Aucoin was offered by Michigan. He’s a 6’4″, 255 lb. prospect who has lots of a lower level offers, along with Arizona State, North Carolina State, and Texas. He’s a 247 Composite 3-star, the #44 tight end, and #1015 overall. Aucoin is not known for his pass catching skills, but he blocks very well and has the size to be an in-line tight end and essentially another lineman.

Plantation (FL) American Heritage defensive end Brian Burns was offered by Michigan. He’s a 6’5″, 212 lb. prospect with offers from Alabama, Auburn, Clemson, Florida, Florida State, Georgia, LSU, Miami, and South Carolina, among others. He’s a 247 Composite 3-star, the #27 weakside end, and #438 overall. As a junior in 2014, he had 75 tackles, 17.5 tackles for loss, and 12 sacks. He claims a 4.76 forty and was invited to The Opening. Burns is a long, lean, quick-twitch guy who has the makings of an impressive pass rusher. You may want to watch his highlights for some pretty impressive basketball highlights that are interspersed throughout.

Abbotsford (BC) Abbotsford wide receiver Chase Claypool was offered by Michigan. He’s a 6’5″, 205 lb. prospect with offers from Arizona, Mississippi State, Nebraska, Oregon, Utah, and Washington, among others. He’s a 247 Composite 3-star, the #168 wide receiver, and #1159 overall. The talent, coaching, and passion for football just isn’t the same in Canada as it is in the United States, so Canadian prospects are tough to judge based on their level of competition and their lack of precise coaching. However, Claypool has some good change-of-direction skills for being so tall, and he looks like a basketball player when going up for the ball. British Columbia – the southwestern province of Canada – borders the state of Washington, and Oregon appears to be the front-runner for Claypool’s services.

Hit the jump for several more 2016 offers, a few 2017 offers, some guys who committed elsewhere, and some random bits.

Trophy Club (TX) Byron Nelson offensive tackle Kellen Diesch was offered by Michigan. He’s a 6’7″, 270 lb. prospect with offers from Arkansas, Baylor, Oklahoma, Tennessee, and Texas A&M, among others. He’s a 247 Composite 3-star, the #49 offensive tackle, and #568 overall. Diesch is also a standout defensive end, but his body and skills make him an offensive line prospect. He needs to add strength, and he tends to stand up too high on defense, although he does a better job of staying low when blocking. He is likely to stay in Big 12 country for college.

Arlington (TX) Bowie offensive guard Tope Imade was offered by Michigan. He’s a 6’4″, 327 lb. prospect with offers from Miami, Texas, and Texas Tech, among others. He’s a 247 Composite 3-star, the #44 offensive guard, and #927 overall. Imade moves his feet well and has a good body for college, but he does not have great hips and might get submarined by defensive linemen who are able to stay low and fire out. Texas came in with an offer shortly after Michigan did, and Imade is likely to end up as a Longhorn.

New Orleans (LA) St. Augustine tight end Jamal Pettigrew, an LSU commit, was offered by Michigan. He’s a 6’6″, 229 lb. prospect who committed to the Tigers in January; he also has offers from Alabama, Florida, Miami, and Texas, among others. He’s a 247 Composite 4-star, the #6 tight end, and #170 overall. As a junior in 2014, he caught 17 passes for 345 yards and 3 touchdowns. Pettigrew has pretty good speed, nice hands, tracks the ball well in the air, and is a plus blocker, too. Michigan is unlikely to be able to peel Pettigrew away from LSU’s grips, but this offer may be partly about building relationships in fertile recruiting grounds. St. Augustine is the school that produced LSU running back Leonard Fournette in 2014, as well as Texas cornerback Jermaine Roberts, both of whom were offered by Michigan.

New Orleans (LA) Brother Martin tight end Irvin Smith was offered by Michigan. He’s a 6’4″, 230 lb. prospect with offers from Alabama, Florida, Miami, and Texas, among others. He’s a 247 Composite 3-star, the #24 tight end, and #564 overall. A teammate of Aucoin (see above), Smith is the pass receiver of the two and shows some smooth route running and soft hands. He’s the son of former Notre Dame tight end Irvin Smith, who was a first round NFL Draft pick by the Saints in 1993, concluding his career in 1999 after subsequent stints with the 49ers and Browns.

Citra (FL) North Marion wide receiver Freddie Swain was offered by Michigan. He’s a 6’0″, 172 lb. prospect with offers from Alabama, Clemson, Florida, Georgia, and Miami, among others. He’s a 247 Composite 4-star, the #44 wide receiver, and #246 overall. As a junior in 2014, he caught 52 passes for 841 yards and 6 touchdowns. He claims a 4.55 forty and was invited to The Opening. Florida appears to be the front-runner as of now.

ADDED TO THE BOARD: 2017
Seattle (WA) Cleveland offensive tackle Henry Bainivalu was offered by Michigan. He’s a 6’4″, 270 lb. prospect with offers from Cal, Oregon State, Washington, and Washington State. He’s a 247 Sports 4-star, the #11 offensive tackle, and #77 overall. Bainivalu has good feet and shows pretty good technique, but he may not have the length to stay outside and could end up playing guard. The front-runner right now appears to be the in-state Huskies.

Bellflower (CA) St. John Bosco offensive tackle Wyatt Davis was offered by Michigan. He’s a 6’5″, 290 lb. prospect with offers from Alabama, Arizona, Cal, Oklahoma, UCLA, and USC, among others. He’s a 247 Sports 4-star, the #6 offensive tackle, and #34 overall. Davis is a pretty well polished player at a powerhouse California school, one that produced quarterback Josh Rosen (UCLA) in the 2015 class and has several FBS prospects each year. Michigan is supposedly right in the top couple schools for Davis, who is fond of Tim Drevno’s work at San Francisco and with USC.

Fort Lauderdale (FL) St. Thomas Aquinas wide receiver Trevon Grimes was offered by Michigan. He’s a 6’3″, 180 lb. prospect with offers from Auburn, Clemson, Florida, Florida State, Georgia, LSU, and Notre Dame, among others. He’s a 247 Sports 5-star, the #1 wide receiver, and #7 overall. He claims a 4.48 forty. He is widely expected to commit to Ohio State, possibly in the very near future.

Monroeville (PA) Gateway offensive guard Robert Hainsey was offered by Michigan. He’s a 6’4″, 263 lb. prospect with offers from Michigan State, North Carolina State, Penn State, and Pitt, among others. He’s a 247 Sports 4-star, the #18 offensive tackle, and #148 overall. Gateway has been a hotbed of talent outside of Pittsburgh, and Michigan has recruited several prospects from there, especially during the late Lloyd Carr era and Rich Rodriguez years. Hainsey is leaning toward Penn State.

Fort Lauderdale (FL) St. Thomas Aquinas defensive tackle Kedonis Haslem was offered by Michigan. He’s a 6’3″, 290 lb. prospect whose lone other offer comes from South Carolina. Haslem is a bit of a lumberer at this point and does not have great football instincts, and I would not be surprised to see him become an offensive player. He is the son of Miami Heat forward Udonis Haslem, who played his college basketball at Florida.

Denton (TX) Guyer tight end Brian Polendey was offered by Michigan. He’s a 6’4″, 235 lb. prospect whose only other offer comes from Houston. Polendey has mostly been under the radar, and no highlights of him exist right now, as far as I know. Michigan is in on him early. Polendey’s part-time quarterback in 2014 was Kevin Dillman, who had strong Michigan interest at one time but ended up signing with North Texas after decommitting from Nebraska. The other QB was 2017 passer Shawn Robinson, the top dual-threat quarterback in his class, who also holds a Michigan offer.

Graham (WA) Kapowsin offensive tackle Foster Sarell was offered by Michigan. He’s a 6’6″, 310 lb. prospect with offers from Alabama, Stanford, UCLA, and Washington, among others. He’s a 247 Sports 5-star, the #3 offensive tackle, and #5 overall. He has already committed to play in the U.S. Army All-American Bowl. I worry about guys who are so big at a young age, because they tend to plateau from a growth standpoint, and hitting 300 lbs. as a freshman means an extra few years of carrying that much weight around on your knees and ankles. He is now 310 lbs., and while he moves pretty well, it’s interesting to see whether players with bodies like this continue to mature or not.

Florence (AL) Florence safety J’Marick Woods was offered by Michigan. He’s a 6’4″, 196 lb. prospect whose first came from the Wolverines, followed closely by Kentucky. Woods claims a 4.67 forty. Woods is a long safety who could very well turn into an outside linebacker in college. His teammate is 2016 fullback/linebacker Erroll Thompson, whom Michigan is recruiting as a two-way player.

OFF THE BOARD
Houston (TX) Westside defensive tackle Jordan Elliott committed to Houston. Elliott has had a bit of an odd recruitment so far, as he was previously committed to Baylor. So far he has eschewed the traditional powers (including Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Texas, USC, and others) for two other in-state schools, neither of which has had sustained success. The U.S. Army All-American has over eight months until National Signing Day, and I would not be surprised to see him change his mind again.

Suwanee (GA) North Gwinnett wide receiver Josh Imatorbhebhe committed to USC. For Michigan followers, this is a plus because I certainly would not look forward to writing “Imatorbhebhe” for long, let alone pronouncing it. However, he’s the 247 Composite #33 wide receiver and #177 overall player, so he’s a good prospect.

Orchard Lake (MI) St. Mary’s offensive guard Cameron Kolwich committed to Northwestern. Kolwich had recently picked up offers from Arkansas and Vanderbilt, and his commitment to Northwestern surprised 247 Sports Crystal Ball predictors, who had him 100% choosing Michigan.

Woodberry Forest (VA) Woodberry Forest offensive tackle Clark Yarbrough committed to Stanford. At one time Michigan was considered to be the leader for Yarbrough, and indeed, Michigan still had 5% of his Crystal Ball picks at the time he pledged to Stanford. However, Jim Harbaugh’s staff backed off of Yarbrough a few months ago, supposedly because they’re not sure if his frame (6’6″, 270 lbs. right now) can handle the type of weight they want to put on their offensive tackles.

MISCELLANEOUS
Cranford (NJ) Cranford offensive tackle Will Fries is visiting Michigan today. He’s a 6’6″, 270 lb. prospect with offers from Clemson, Miami, Michigan, Penn State, Pitt, and Rutgers, among others. He’s a 247 Composite 3-star, the #37 offensive tackle, and #387 overall.

Euless (TX) Trinity defensive tackle Chris Daniels put Michigan in his top ten. Daniels grew up in Muskegon before moving to Texas, and he said that Michigan was his favorite school as a kid. He’s the #114 overall player in the country.

Camden (NJ) Camden defensive end Ron Johnson placed Michigan in his top fifteen. Top fifteens are stupid, and I don’t like mentioning top lists very often. However, Daniels has a clear connection to the state of Michigan, and Johnson visited Michigan this spring with several other Garden State prospects. The main reason I mention him, however, is that I typed up about 75% of his scouting report last week before I got sidetracked. The finalized version should be coming in the next day or two, and Michigan is reportedly in his top two.

Over on Recruiting Season, I posted some new developments:

Recruiting Update: May 18, 2015

Chris Singletary (image via MLive.com)

RECRUITING STAFF NEWS
Over the last couple weeks, news has come out about Michigan’s recruiting staff. Most significantly, director of player personnel Chris Singletary is out. The former Michigan linebacker reportedly created a bit of a rift in recruiting circles around the state of Michigan. The story goes that he only had strong relationships with a few schools – the ones that would have perennial FBS prospects – and largely ignored a lot of the other coaching staffs in the state, except when they would have a blue-chip prospect. Now that he’s gone, some of those traditionally talent-laden schools are miffed. There are rumors floating about that Singletary burned some bridges to Michigan on the way out, too. Contrary to that rumor, Scout’s Sam Webb says that Singletary is being considered for an administrative job within the athletic department, which would be an odd move for a guy who allegedly bad-mouthed the program toward the end. Webb is typically a trusted source, but he is also friendly with Singletary, so the truth might lie somewhere in the middle.

Meanwhile, former Paramus (NJ) Catholic head coach Chris Partridge, who was hired a few months ago, is now the lead man in the recruiting office. He and Matt Doherty are handling the majority of recruiting info, but Jim Harbaugh has also pulled out the ace he had up his sleeve: Erik Campbell. Campbell, who played and coached at Michigan, spent time with Iowa and the Montreal Alouettes in recent years. He was hired to work in the football program this offseason, and now it looks like he will have the task of maintaining and/or mending relationships in the state. Campbell, who grew up in Indiana, was an associate head coach under Lloyd Carr and has a very good reputation. I expect Campbell to return to coaching before too long (whether on Michigan’s staff or elsewhere), but in the meantime, I think it’s an excellent move by Harbaugh to put him on the recruiting trail.

Now hit the jump for some new 2016 and 2018 offers, plus some guys who committed elsewhere and some random bits.

ADDED TO THE BOARD: 2016
Philadelphia (PA) Imhotep offensive guard Johncarlo Valentin was offered by Michigan. He’s a 6’5″, 346 lb. prospect with offers from Arizona State, Pitt, Purdue, Rutgers, and Virginia Techa, among others. He’s a 247 Composite 3-star, the #14 offensive guard, and #355 overall. He is a huge lineman with some bad weight on him, but he shows surprisingly nimble feet in the open field. He reminds me a little bit of former Michigan lineman Chris Bryant, although I think Valentin is probably more agile. Valentin is not without faults, as he tends to try to use his upper body more than his legs. He is a teammate of 2016 tight end Naseir Upshur, who also holds a Michigan offer.

Hudson (NC) South Caldwell offensive guard Landon Robertson was offered by Michigan. He’s a 6’5″, 306 lb. prospect with offers from Alabama, Auburn, Clemson, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Virginia Tech, among others. He’s a 247 Composite 4-star, the #22 offensive tackle, and #221 overall. Robertson has quite a nasty streak and clearly loves physically dominating people, but while 247 Sports lists him as a tackle, I don’t think he has the feet to stay on the edge in college.

ADDED TO THE BOARD: 2018
Manvel (TX) Manvel safety Jalen Preston was offered by Michigan. He’s a 6’2″, 210 lb. prospect with offers from Baylor, LSU, and Wisconsin, among others. He’s currently unranked because he’s just a freshman in high school. The linked highlights are of him as an eighth grader, but he doesn’t look like a kid who’s going to be a safety for his entire career. He runs like a guy who will be a linebacker, H-back, etc. in college. Michigan has tried to work their way into Manvel recently with offers to 2015 cornerback Will Lockett (UCLA), 2016 offensive tackle Austin Myers (committed to TCU), and 2016 safety Deontay Anderson (uncommitted), but those efforts have largely been fruitless other than an official visit out of Lockett back in January.

OFF THE BOARD
Calhoun (GA) Calhoun offensive guard Jack DeFoor committed to Ole Miss. This was a bit of a surprise since he was expected to pick Clemson, but Michigan was never heavily involved. DeFoor is a 3-star and #868 overall to the 247 Composite.

Potomac (MD) Bullis quarterback Dwayne Haskins, Jr. committed to Maryland. This is a good pull for the Terps, because Alabama, Clemson, Florida State, Ohio State, and others were also recruiting Haskins, the #61 player in the country, according to the 247 Composite. I had Haskins #4 on my wish list of quarterbacks (LINK).

Traverse City (MI) West offensive guard Thiyo Lukusa committed to Michigan State. Lukusa was pretty highly ranked early on, though I thought he was overrated. At one time he was close to committing to Brady Hoke’s Wolverines, but Hoke told him to wait and explore the process. Jim Harbaugh’s staff was not recruiting Lukusa very heavily.

Detroit (MI) Cass Tech safety Demetric Vance committed to Michigan State. I had Vance rated as the #9 player in the state of Michigan back in February (LINK). He could also play wide receiver.

MISCELLANEOUS
Hyattsville (MD) DeMatha offensive guard Terrance Davis put Michigan in his top ten. Michigan is also recruiting his teammate, 2017 running back Anthony McFarland, Jr., the best running back I’ve seen in his class so far.

Darien (IL) Hinsdale South defensive end Josh King is announcing his decision on June 6, and he has reportedly eliminated Michigan. Michigan State appears to be the front-runner. Fort Wayne (IN) Wayne defensive end Auston Robertson is announcing on June 7 and might also end up in East Lansing.

Concord (CA) De La Salle center Boss Tagaloa put Michigan in his top ten. The Wolverines are also recruiting his teammate, tight end Devin Asiasi.

Recruiting Update: May 14, 2015

Orchard Lake (MI) St. Mary’s wide receiver K.J. Hamler (image via 247Sports.com)

ADDED TO THE BOARD: 2017
Clinton (MS) Clinton running back Cam Akers was offered by Michigan. He’s a 6’0″, 215 lb. prospect with offers from Alabama, Mississippi State, Ole Miss, and Tennessee, among others. He’s a 247 Sports 4-star, the #6 running back, and #62 overall. A high school quarterback, in 2014 he completed 119/200 passes for 1,800 yards, 20 touchdowns, and 5 interceptions; he also ran 166 times for 896 yards and 11 touchdowns. Akers is a sturdily built runner who lacks great breakaway speed, but he has decent acceleration, has good balance, and can break a lot of tackles.

Cheshire (CT) Academy wide receiver Tarik Black was offered by Michigan. He’s a 6’3″, 185 lb. prospect with offers from Alabama, Connecticut, Maryland, and Rutgers, among others. He’s a 247 Sports 4-star, the #14 wide receiver, and #97 overall. He claims a 36″ vertical. As a sophomore in 2014, he had 57 catches for 926 yards and 12 touchdowns. His film should be taken with a grain of salt since Connecticut lacks much talent in the sport of football, but he makes some very nice acrobatic catches – impressive regardless of competition – and shows some decent speed. Black is high on Michigan and could have the Wolverines #1 on his list early.

Dallas (TX) Bishop Dunne cornerback Chevin Calloway was offered by Michigan. He’s a 5’10”, 180 lb. prospect with offers from Baylor, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, and TCU, among others. He’s a 247 Sports 4-star, the #14 cornerback, and #192 overall. He claims a 4.45 forty. Despite just average size, Calloway is good in press man coverage and shows some decent ball skills.

West Sayville (NY) Sayville quarterback Jack Coan was offered by Michigan. He’s a 6’3″, 190 lb. prospect with offers from Maryland, Miami, and Syracuse, among others. As a sophomore in 2014, he completed 195/327 passes for 3,431 yards and 40 touchdowns. Coan throws a nice, catchable ball and has good pocket awareness, but he is not an adept runner and has a delivery that can be very deliberate. He’s just beginning the recruiting process and took his first college visit less than a month ago.

Hit the jump for several more new offers in the 2017 class.

Norfolk (VA) Booker T. Washington defensive tackle Breyon Gaddy was offered by Michigan. He’s a 6’4″, 321 lb. prospect with offers from Florida State, Georgia, Miami, Notre Dame, and Oregon, among others. He’s a 247 Sports 5-star, the #2 defensive tackle, and #23 overall. Gaddy is large and can be explosive, although his claim of a 4.6 forty is likely an exaggeration. He spends too much of his time standing straight up, so the possibility of being a William Campbell exists. The Seminoles were the first to offer and are likely still the leader.

Orchard Lake (MI) St. Mary’s wide receiver K.J. Hamler was offered by Michigan. He’s a 5’9″, 155 lb. prospect with offers from Cincinnati, Indiana, Louisville, and Michigan State, among others. He’s a 247 Sports 3-star, the #44 wide receiver, and #270 overall. As a sophomore in 2014, he caught 38 passes for 773 yards. Hamler is very speedy and elusive, and despite being undersized, he wants to play receiver in college, most likely in the slot; he could also be helpful in the return game. Michigan State looks like they might have the lead. Hamler has two teammates with Michigan offers: 2016 offensive guard Cameron Kolwich and 2017 linebacker Joshua Ross.

Princeton (NJ) The Hun School defensive tackle Fred Hansard was offered by Michigan. He’s a 6’4″, 310 lb. prospect with offers from Miami, Ohio State, Rutgers, and Virginia Tech, among others. He’s a 247 Sports 4-star, the #12 defensive tackle, and #142 overall. Hansard is a big boy with a little bit of bad weight, but he is strong and runs pretty well for his size, which is shown by his fumble return for a touchdown on the very first play of his highlights. He attends the alma mater of former Michigan defensive end Anthony Lalota, who eventually transferred to Rutgers before quitting football altogether.

Roseville (CA) Roseville tight end Jimmy Jaggers was offered by Michigan. He’s a 6’4″, 230 lb. prospect who also holds offers from Louisville, Northwestern, and Oregon State, among others. He’s a 247 Sports 4-star, the #4 tight end, and #209 overall. He is not the most outstanding athlete, but he shows a good understanding of the position, runs fairly well, and shows a strong ability to block at the point of attack. Jaggers visited Michigan a couple weeks ago without an offer at the time, so his interest in the Wolverines seems quite high.

Vidalia (GA) Vidalia linebacker Nate McBride was offered by Michigan. He’s a 6’2″, 220 lb. prospect with offers from Alabama, Auburn, Clemson, Florida, and Georgia, among others. He’s a 247 Sports 4-star, the #6 outside linebacker, and #91 overall. McBride is a speedy outside linebacker who does a little bit of everything for his high school team – plays linebacker, plays running back, returns kicks, etc. He would be a good pull, but it will be tough to get him out of SEC country.

Atlanta (GA) Hapeville cornerback William Poole III was offered by Michigan. He’s a 6’0″, 170 lb. prospect with offers from Alabama, Auburn, Clemson, LSU, Miami, and others. He’s a 247 Sports 4-star, the #15 cornerback, and #194 overall. Poole is a quick-twitch kid with good speed and long arms, although he occasionally gets lost in coverage. Georgia looks like the team to beat right now.

Rancho Cucamonga (CA) Rancho Cucamonga cornerback Jaylon Redd was offered by Michigan. He’s a 5’9″, 180 lb. prospect with offers from Arizona State, UCLA, and USC, among others. He’s a 247 Sports 4-star, the #19 cornerback, and #243 overall. Redd has that classic highlight film that’s slightly sped up, so he looks faster than he really is – and so does everyone else on the field. His speed should be taken with a grain of salt. Regardless, some big programs have offered, and he’s a little guy with pretty good agility.

Marietta (GA) Sprayberry running back Trey Sermon was offered by Michigan. He’s a 6’0″, 200 lb. prospect with offers from Alabama, Auburn, Georgia, and Miami, among others. He’s a 247 Sports 4-star, the #5 running back, and #57 overall. Sermon has a nice blend of size, vision, speed, and power which should translate nicely into being the next great Georgia Bulldog running back.

Atlanta (GA) Pace offensive tackle Andrew Thomas was offered by Michigan. He’s a 6’5″, 295 lb. prospect with offers from Clemson, Georgia, and Miami, among others. He’s a 247 Sports 4-star, the #8 offensive tackle, and #65 overall. Thomas has some impressive agility for a guy his size, and he has the flexibility to stay low and drive people off the ball.

Upland (CA) Upland wide receiver Nathan Tilford was offered by Michigan. He’s a 6’2″, 190 lb. prospect with offers from Arizona State, UCLA, and USC. He’s a 247 Sports 4-star, the #25 wide receiver, and #164 overall. Tilford plays running back in high school, though he might be a bit tall and lanky to stick at that position. He has good speed and athleticism but might find himself playing safety or outside linebacker, where his raw athleticism might serve him better. Tilford attends the alma mater of former Michigan target Joe Mathis (Washington), who was known for changing his mind depending on the direction of the wind.

Sparta (NJ) Pope John XXIII defensive tackle Dalyn Wade-Perry was offered by Michigan. He’s a 6’4″, 320 lb. prospect with offers from Alabama, Ohio State, and Stanford, among others. He’s a 247 Sports 4-star, the #20 defensive tackle, and #241 overall. Wade-Perry is a wide body who will probably be a nose tackle at the next level. He shows some nimble feet but probably lacks the explosiveness to be a penetrating 3-tech tackle.

Roswell (GA) Roswell cornerback LeAnthony Williams, Jr. was offered by Michigan. He’s a 6’0″, 170 lb. prospect with offers from Alabama, Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, and Tennessee, among others. He’s a 247 Composite 4-star, the #16 cornerback, and #203 overall. I really like Williams’s game, because he’s a speedy guy who’s not afraid to stick his nose into some physical contact. He could play corner or safety, but I would probably include him in the top 100 prospects in the country.
