Recruiting Update: April 13, 2015

Oak Park (MI) Oak Park offensive
tackle JaRaymond Hall

Thanks to Spencer for your recent donation! If anyone else would like to help with the effort to redesign the site, please use Paypal (on the left sidebar) or consider buying something from Amazon via the link (LINK) on the right sidebar.

COMMITMENTS
Southfield (MI) Southfield running back Matt Falcon committed to Michigan (LINK).

Weber State punter Blake O’Neill is transferring to Michigan (LINK).

ADDED TO THE BOARD: 2016
Houston (TX) Westside defensive tackle Jordan Elliott decommitted from Baylor. He’s a 6’4″, 305 lb. prospect with offers from Alabama, Florida State, Oklahoma, Texas, Texas A&M, and USC, among others. He’s a 247 Composite 4-star, the #12 defensive tackle, and #93 overall. As a junior in 2014, he made 78 tackles, 31 tackles for loss, and 12 sacks. The decommitment took place shortly after he took an unofficial visit to Texas, and the Longhorns are thought to be the favorite to land Elliott.

Jacksonville (FL) First Coast wide receiver Kevin Stepherson was offered by Michigan. He’s a 6’0″, 180 lb. prospect with offers from LSU, Notre Dame, and others. He’s a Rivals 3-star wideout and seems relatively unknown at this time, but he shows some good long speed and an ability to run after the catch. The Tigers and Fighting Irish make up his top two, so Michigan has some catching up to do.

Hit the jump for several more new offers and some miscellaneous bits.

Rialto (CA) Carter linebacker Lokeni Toaioloa, a UCLA commit, was offered by Michigan. He’s a 6’1, 212 lb. prospect who committed in late March; he also has offers from Miami, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, Oregon, and USC, among others. He’s a 247 Composite 4-star, the #1 inside linebacker, and #58 overall. Toaioloa is a solidly built, hard-hitting linebacker and probably won’t give Michigan much of a look.

Green Bay (WI) Bay Port offensive tackle Cole Van Lanen was offered by Michigan. He’s a 6’5″, 270 lb. prospect with offers from Illinois, Iowa, Minnesota, Wisconsin, and others. He’s a 247 Composite 4-star, the #27 offensive tackle, and #279 overall. Wisconsin is the odds-on favorite.

Springhill (LA) North Webster linebacker Devin White was offered by Michigan. He’s a 6’1″, 260 lb. prospect with offers from Alabama, Auburn, LSU, Ohio State, Ole Miss, and Texas A&M, among others. He’s a 247 Composite 4-star, the #10 athlete, and #148 overall. The reason he’s labeled as an “athlete” is because in addition to making 90+ tackles in each of the past two seasons, he ran for 2,287 yards and 30 touchdowns as a junior running back in 2014. He could play linebacker, defensive end, or some sort of H-back at the next level, but his highlights are impressive, one of the best highlight packages I’ve seen in the 2016 recruiting cycle. As are most highly touted Louisianans, he’s expected to go to LSU.

ADDED TO THE BOARD: 2017
Waxhaw (NC) Cuthbertson wide receiver J.T. Cauthen was offered by Michigan. He’s a 6’1″, 200 lb. prospect with offers from Clemson, North Carolina, North Carolina State, South Carolina, Tennessee, and West Virginia, among others. He’s a 247 Sports 4-star, the #13 wide receiver, and #68 overall. As a sophomore in 2014, he caught 104 passes for 1,464 yards and 15 touchdowns. He makes some very athletic catches and has a solid build for being just a sophomore.

Oak Park (MI) Oak Park offensive tackle JaRaymond Hall was offered by Michigan. He’s a 6’5″, 255 lb. prospect with two other offers coming from Bowling Green and Miami-OH. Hall might be too short to be a tackle right now, although he’s just a sophomore and should grow a little bit. He does a great job of firing low off the ball, keeping a wide base, and driving his feet through the whistle. Linemen typically develop a little bit later, but Hall is the best in-state lineman I’ve seen in the 2017 cycle so far. He attends Oak Park, which sent running back John Kelly to Tennessee in the 2015 class; several of his teammates have gone to MAC schools in recent years, too.

Waco (TX) La Vega tight end Kedrick James was offered by Michigan. He’s a 6’4″, 245 lb. prospect with an offer from Baylor. James is a big body who moves pretty well in a straight line, but he lacks refinement as a blocker and pass catcher. He’s a good developmental prospect.

Hyattsville (MD) DeMatha running back Anthony McFarland, Jr. was offered by Michigan. He’s a 5’9″, 181 lb. prospect with offers from Clemson, Florida State, Georgia, Ohio State, Penn State, and Wisconsin, among others. He’s a 247 Sports 5-star, the #2 running back, and #28 overall. McFarland has scorching speed and looks a little like Chris Johnson running the ball. The Seminoles lead the Crystal Ball predictions, but McFarland was openly campaigning for a Michigan offer, so maybe there’s a shot.

Anaheim (CA) Servite wide receiver Osiris St. Brown was offered by Michigan. He’s a 6’1″, 178 lb. prospect with offers from Illinois, Kentucky, Notre Dame, Texas Tech, and Utah, among others. He’s a 247 Composite 4-star, the #15 wide receiver, and #74 overall. He is the brother of Equanimeous St. Brown, a Notre Dame incoming freshman wideout.

Philadelphia (PA) St. Joseph’s running back D’Andre Swift was offered by Michigan. He’s a 5’9″, 195 lb. prospect with offers from Alabama, Iowa, Penn State, Pitt, and Rutgers, among others. He’s a 247 Sports 4-star, the #1 all-purpose back, and #8 overall. Swift is a kid who can do a little bit of everything – run, catch, return kicks, play corner, etc. He doesn’t have truly elite speed, but he accelerates quickly and is very tough to bring down in space. He attends the same school as 2015 signee Jon Runyan, Jr.

OFF THE BOARD
Kathleen (GA) Veterans quarterback Logan Byrd committed to North Carolina. Byrd did not have a Michigan offer, but he visited Ann Arbor several weeks ago and lots of people assumed he would leave town with a chance to play for Michigan. The offer never came, Brandon Peters committed to Michigan, and now Byrd is a Tarheel.

MISCELLANEOUS
Charlotte (NC) Ardrey Kell defensive end Julian Okwara named a top five that includes Michigan. The other schools on his list are Clemson, Georgia, Notre Dame, and Ole Miss. However, he has already set an announcement date of April 30th and has not visited Michigan, so that’s a big hint not to get excited.

Santa Ana (CA) Mater Dei linebacker Curtis Robinson named a top seven that does not include Michigan. It does include Duke, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Stanford, UCLA, USC, and Washington.

COMMITMENTS
Prattville (AL) Prattville running back Kingston Davis committed to Michigan (LINK).

Avon (IN) Avon quarterback Brandon Peters committed to Michigan (LINK).

Farmington (MI) Farmington fullback David Reese committed to Michigan (LINK).

ADDED TO THE BOARD: 2016
Brownsburg (IN) Brownsburg running back Toks Akinribade was offered by Michigan. He’s a 6’0″, 210 lb. prospect with offers from Cincinnati, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, and a bunch of MAC schools. He’s a 247 Composite 3-star, the #62 running back, and #781 overall. As a junior in 2014, he had 220 carries for 1,579 yards and 15 touchdowns. Akinribade is a solidly built running back with pretty decent speed and some good power, a solid all-around back. His teammate is 2017 quarterback Hunter Johnson (see below).

Hit the jump for several new 2016 offers, some 2017 offers, some commitments elsewhere, and some random tidbits.

Vero Beach (FL) Vero Beach defensive end Patrick Bethel was offered by Michigan. He’s a 6’3″, 243 lb. prospect with offers from Alabama, Auburn, Florida, Florida State, LSU, and Miami, among others. He’s a 247 Composite 4-star, the #18 strongside end, and #300 overall. Despite being listed at a very average 6’3″, he is long-limbed and lanky. He’s pretty aggressive, though, and packs quite a punch.

Sachse (TX) Sachse cornerback Donovan Duvernay was offered by Michigan. He’s a 5’10”, 170 lb. prospect with offers from Baylor, Boise State, and TCU, among others. He’s a 247 Composite 3-star, the #69 athlete, and #974 overall. As a junior in 2014, he caught 20 passes for 452 yards and 5 touchdowns, plus he had 2 kickoff return touchdowns. His brother, Devin, is a slightly bigger receiver who’s the #38 overall prospect in the country. The twins plan to play together in college, so while Devin was offered a few weeks ago, the Wolverines basically have to take a shot with Donovan to get Devin.

Rockford (MI) Rockford kicker Quinn Nordin was offered by Michigan. Nordin is a 6’1″, 200 lb. prospect with offers from Iowa, Penn State, and several others. He’s a 247 Composite 3-star, the #1 kicker, and #1045 overall. Nordin, who also punts, could potentially be Michigan’s second scholarship kicking specialist since 2015 recruit Andrew David is coming in, but David is likely limited to placekicking in college. Nordin could do either job or both. Since the time he was offered, several 247 Sports Crystal Ball predictions have come in for Michigan, and it now stands 75% in favor of the Wolverines.

Byesville (OH) Meadowbrook offensive guard Josh Sills was offered by Michigan. He’s a 6’5″, 319 lb. prospect with offers from a few MAC schools. He’s a 247 Composite 3-star, the #71 offensive guard, and #1280 overall. Sills plays tackle for his high school team, but he plays way too high and does not have the feet to remain on the perimeter in college. In fact, he seems rather slow-footed and appears to be a bit of a reach at this juncture in the recruiting cycle.

ADDED TO THE BOARD: 2017
Bloomfield Hills (MI) Brother Rice tight end Carter Dunaway was offered by Michigan. He’s a 6’6″, 225 lb. prospect whose lone offer comes from the Wolverines. He is not ranked in the 2017 class. Dunaway is the brother of defensive end Jack Dunaway, who will be a preferred walk-on in the fall; both are the sons of Craig Dunaway, who played tight end for Michigan in the mid-1980s. They are also the former teammates of quarterback Alex Malzone and wide receiver Grant Perry, both of whom will be freshmen in the fall. I have been unable to find football highlights of Carter, but here’s a short video of him dunking (after missing his first attempt) as a scrawny eighth grader (LINK).

Brownburg (IN) Brownsburg quarterback Hunter Johnson was offered by Michigan. He’s a 6’3″, 197 lb. prospect with offers from Miami, Northwestern, Notre Dame, Penn State, and Tennessee, among others. He’s a 247 Sports 5-star, the #1 pro-style quarterback, and #9 overall. As a sophomore in 2014, he completed 122/226 passes for 1,434 yards, 10 touchdowns, and 8 interceptions. He claims a 4.6 forty. Johnson has good arm strength and a compact, high delivery, and he also makes quick decisions. He would be an excellent pickup. Johnson was offered on campus this past weekend when he visited with 2016 running back teammate Toks Akinribade (see above). Michigan’s only other quarterback offer for 2017 so far is Coloradoan Dylan McCaffrey.

Hinesville (GA) Liberty cornerback Richard LeCounte was offered by Michigan. He’s a 5’11”, 174 lb. prospect with offers from Alabama, Clemson, Florida, Florida State, Georgia, Miami, and Ohio State, among others. He’s a 247 Sports 4-star, the #4 athlete, and #22 overall. LeCounte could also play wide receiver or safety at the next level.

Lithia Springs (GA) Jonesboro wide receiver James “M.J.” Walker, Jr. was offered by Michigan. He’s a 6’5″, 210 lb. prospect who might be better known for his basketball exploits, where he’s a 247 Composite 5-star, the #2 shooting guard, and #16 overall in the 2017 class. Walker is a jumbo wide receiver with good speed, but not great. His biggest advantage is obviously his size and ability to go up and catch the ball. It’s unclear whether he will pursue basketball or football (or both) in college.

OFF THE BOARD
North Ridgeville (OH) North Ridgeville running back Demario McCall committed to Ohio State last week. He did not hold an offer from Michigan, but he was the top guy on my list of guys that I wanted the Wolverines to offer. McCall has an element of speed that is lacking in most of the guys on Michigan’s roster. With the Buckeyes already having two 2016 running backs committed, I had hoped he might get squeezed out and end up in Ann Arbor.

Lawrenceville (GA) Archer offensive tackle E.J. Price committed to Georgia. Price grew up in Michigan, recently named the Wolverines his #1 choice, and then committed to the Bulldogs a couple weeks later. He may yet visit Michigan, which would give Jim Harbaugh a chance to flip him, but this is a disappointing development since Price is #10 offensive tackle and #77 overall player in the 2016 class.

Virginia Beach (VA) Ocean Lakes cornerback Levonta Taylor committed to Florida State. The 247 Composite 5-star and #2 cornerback expressed passing interest in the Wolverines’ offer, but he never visited, seemingly destined for the Seminoles for a while.

Folsom (CA) Folsom offensive tackle Jonah Williams committed to Alabama. Williams was offered by the Wolverines back in February and seemed excited about the offer at the time, but he had not mentioned Michigan in recent weeks.

Pompano Beach (FL) Coconut Creek cornerback Malek Young committed to Georgia. Young was offered by Michigan’s previous staff but was not pursued by the new regime.

MISCELLANEOUS
Here’s a list of visitors from this past week/weekend (LINK). One late addition to that list is Fayetteville (NC) Sanford cornerback Mark Gilbert, who visited campus yesterday. Gilbert is a 247 Composite 3-star, the #45 cornerback, and #498 overall. He also has offers from Duke, North Carolina State, Pitt, and West Virginia, among others.

Southfield (MI) Southfield running back Matt Falcon, who holds a Michigan offer, announced a top five that includes Arizona State, Arkansas, Michigan, Oregon, and Tennessee. With the Wolverines taking a commitment from Kingston Davis, it appears they are still interested in another runner. Falcon is a little faster than Davis, although the Southfield product is still good-sized at 6’1″, 215 lbs.

2015 Spring Game Visitors

Houston (TX) Alief Elsik linebacker Dontavious Jackson

Michigan’s spring game will take place on Saturday, April 4, 2015. Jim Harbaugh has announced plans to draft up teams, which will take place this coming Saturday, March 28. Spring games usually attract a lot of prospects, and Michigan already has some good ones lined up to visit.

2015
Commits:
Andrew David, Karan Higdon, Shelton Johnson, Tyree Kinnel, Grant Newsome, Grant Perry, Nolan Ulizio, Keith Washington, Tyrone Wheatley Jr.

2016
Toks Akinribade – RB – Brownsburg (IN) Brownsburg: Akinribade is a 6’0″, 210 lb. prospect with offers from Cincinnati, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, and Michigan, plus a bunch of MAC schools. He’s a 247 Composite 3-star, the #63 running back, and #797 overall. As a junior in 2014, he had 220 carries for 1,579 yards and 15 touchdowns. He won’t be in town for the spring game, but he visited on Tuesday and was offered by the Wolverines while in town. His high school teammate is 2017 quarterback Hunter Johnson (see below).

Austin Anderson – OG – Mineola (TX) Mineola: Anderson is a 6’4″, 285 lb. prospect with offers from Arizona State, Michigan, Mississippi State, Oklahoma State, Ole Miss, and TCU, among others. He’s a 247 Composite 3-star, the #74 offensive tackle, and #846 overall.

Riley Anderson – OG – Mineola (TX) Mineola: Anderson, Austin’s twin brother, is a 6’5″, 285 lb. prospect with offers from Arizona State, Michigan, Mississippi State, Oklahoma State, and Ole Miss, among others. He’s a 247 Composite 3-star, the #76 offensive tackle, and #877 overall.

Chris Brown – S – Houston (TX) Alief Elsik: Brown is a 5’11”, 183 lb. prospect with offers from Houston, Louisville, Michigan, Purdue, and others. He’s a 247 Composite 3-star, the #56 safety, and #855 overall. As a junior in 2014, he had 45 tackles, 2 tackles for loss, 5 interceptions, 2 forced fumbles, and 5 pass breakups. He will be in town with teammate Dontavious Jackson (see below).

Hit the jump for lots and lots more prospects.

Tony Butler – CB – Lakewood (OH) St. Edward’s: Butler is a 6’2″, 195 lb. prospect who committed to Pitt in March; he also has offers from Arizona State, Maryland, and Rutgers, among others. He’s a 247 Composite 3-star, the #57 cornerback, and #611 overall. He is visited Michigan on Thursday, so he will not be in Ann Arbor for the spring game, but his former high school coach is Rick Finotti, who was recently hired as Michigan’s director of football operations.

Jalen Cochran – OLB – Plymouth (MI) Canton: Cochran is a 6’4″, 225 lb. prospect with offers from Iowa and several MAC schools. He’s a 247 Composite 3-star, the #72 outside linebacker, and #994 overall. He claims a 4.79 forty. Cochran could be in line for a Michigan offer sooner or later.

Donnie Corley – WR – Detroit (MI) King: Corley is a 6’2″, 180 lb. prospect with offers from Michigan, Michigan State, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Ole Miss, and Tennessee, among others. He’s a 247 Composite 4-star, the #20 wide receiver, and #110 overall. I have him rated as the #1 player in the state. This will be Corley’s fifth visit to Michigan since Jim Harbaugh was hired..

Kingston Davis – RB – Prattville (AL) Prattville: Davis is a 6’1″, 225 lb. prospect with offers from Louisville, Michigan, Mississippi State, and Ole Miss, among others. He’s a 247 Composite 3-star, the #3 fullback, and #981 overall. As a junior in 2014, he had 1,407 rushing yards and 17 touchdowns on his way to a state championship. The quarterback on his team was incoming freshman Keith Washington, who plans to play corner at Michigan. On a related note, Michigan will be holding a summer camp in Prattville, which will likely attract Davis and others from a pretty strong football area.

Terrance Davis – OG – Hyattasville (MD) DeMatha: Davis is a 6’4″, 305 lb. prospect with offers from Alabama, Maryland, Michigan State, Penn State, and others. He’s a 247 Composite 4-star, the #3 offensive guard, and #170 overall. [Side note: Former teammate, offensive tackle J.P. Urquidez, also holds a Michigan offer but transferred from DeMatha to Copperas Cove (TX) Copperas Cove in January.]

Camilo Eifler – LB – Oakland (CA) Bishop O’Dowd: Eifler is a 6’2″, 210 lb. prospect with offers from Cal, Michigan, and Washington, among others. He’s a 247 Composite 4-star, the #16 outside linebacker, and #196 overall. His high school head coach is former Washington running back Napoleon Kaufman, who went on to play for the Oakland Raiders. Eifler’s travel plans do not have him arriving in Ann Arbor until Monday, so he will miss the spring game but will see campus on April 6-7.

Matt Falcon – RB – Southfield (MI) Southfield: Falcon is a 6’1″, 215 lb. prospect with offers from Michigan, Ohio State, and Tennesee, among others. He’s a 247 Composite 4-star, the #13 running back, and #235 overall. He has proclaimed Tennessee as his outright leader, although he has been making pretty regular visits to Michigan.

Desmond Fitzpatrick – WR – Farmington (MI) Farmington: Fitzpatrick is a 6’2″, 194 lb. prospect who committed to Louisville last October; he has since earned more offers, including one from the Wolverines. He’s a 247 Composite 3-star, the #57 wide receiver, and #336 overall. Despite being committed to the Cardinals, area recruiting analysts believe it’s only a matter of time until Fitzpatrick (and his offered teammate, David Reese) commit to Michigan.

Jaqui “J.J.” Givens – S – Mechanicsville (VA) Atlee: Givens is a 6’2″, 170 lb. prospect with offers from Arizona State, Michigan, Virginia Tech, and West Virginia, among others. He’s a 247 Composite 3-star, the #46 safety, and #693 overall. This will be his first visit to Michigan, and most have him pegged for Virginia Tech.

Dele’ Harding – LB – Elkton (MD) Eastern Christian Academy: Harding committed to Michigan under Brady Hoke, and this was his first visit to campus since Jim Harbaugh was hired.

Daelin Hayes – LB – Ann Arbor (MI) Skyline: Hayes is a 6’4″, 250 lb. prospect who is committed to USC; he also holds offers from Michigan and numerous others. He’s a 247 Composite 4-star, the #6 outside linebacker, and #82 overall. Hayes says he is 100% committed to USC, and he was visiting with his whole high school team for the game, a team that includes Hunter Rison (see below).

Lavert Hill – CB – Detroit (MI) King: Hill is solidly committed to Penn State, but his brother – Michigan safety Delano Hill – likely drew him to see the spring game.

Dontavious Jackson – LB – Houston (TX) Alief Elsik: Jackson is a 6’2″, 248 lb. prospect with offers from Alabama, Florida State, Michigan, Oklahoma, Texas, and Texas A&M, among others. He’s a 247 Composite 4-star, the #4 inside linebacker, and #123 overall. He is a teammate of Chris Brown (see above). Brown and Jackson bought airline tickets to Michigan specifically, so this is not a multiple-stop trip through the midwest. That would seem to indicate a strong interest in attending Michigan.

Khalid Kareem – DE – Farmington Hills (MI) Harrison: Kareem is a 6’4″, 252 lb. prospect with offers from Michigan, Michigan State, Notre Dame, and Ohio State, among others. He’s a 247 Composite 4-star, the #14 strongside end, and #226 overall. He has visited Michigan numerous times, despite being a short-lived commit to Michigan State back in February.

Quinn Nordin – K – Rockford (MI) Rockford: Nordin is a 6’1″, 200 lb. prospect with offers from Iowa, Miami-OH, Penn State, and Western Michigan. He’s currently unranked by the major recruiting sites, but he is #1 in his class according to Chris Sailer. This is his first visit to Michigan. The Wolverines only have one scholarship kicker scheduled to be on the roster in 2015, and that will be true freshman placekicker Andrew David. UPDATE: Nordin was offered by Michigan on Saturday.

Brandon Peters – QB – Avon (IN) Avon: Peters is a 6’5″, 205 lb. prospect with offers from Arkansas, Indiana, LSU, Michigan, and Wisconsin, among others. He’s a 247 Composite 4-star, the #10 pro-style quarterback, and #272 overall. Back in February I wrote up a scouting report on Michigan’s 2016 quarterback targets (LINK), so check that out for the scoop on his game. As for his recruitment, the 247 Sports Crystal Ball is 86% in favor of Michigan, and he seems to be the most likely QB for Michigan’s class with K.J. Costello choosing between Stanford and USC this afternoon. UPDATE: Peters committed to Michigan on Friday night (LINK).

David Reese – FB – Farmington (MI) Farmington: Reese committed to Michigan on Saturday morning (LINK).

Josh Sills – OG – Byesville (OH) Meadowbrook: Sills is a 6’5″, 319 lb. prospect who earned a Michigan offer on his visit; he also has several MAC offers. He’s a 247 Composite 3-star, the #70 offensive guard, and #1279 overall.

Will Small – LB – Southfield (MI) Southfield: Small is a 6’0″, 205 lb. prospect with no offers at this time.

Darrius Stokes – WR – Oak Park (MI) Oak Park: Stokes is a 6’0″, 160 lb. prospect with no offers at this time.

Abdullah Yaseen – CB – Oak Park (MI) Oak Park: Yaseen is a 5’10”, 170 lb. prospect with no offers at this time.

2017

Carter Dunaway – TE – Bloomfield Hills (MI) Brother Rice:
Dunaway is a 6’6″, 225 lb. prospect who was offered by Michigan on Saturday at the spring game. He is the brother of incoming freshman preferred walk-on defensive end Jack Dunaway, and he is also the son of tight end Craig Dunaway, who played for Michigan in the mid-1980s.

A.J. Epenesa – DE – Edwardsville (IL) Edwardsville: Epenesa is a 6’5″, 230 lb. prospect with offers from Florida State, Iowa, Michigan, Michigan State, Notre Dame, and USC, among others. He’s a 247 Sports 5-star, the #1 strongside end, and #2 overall. He has claimed Iowa as his early leader. This will be his first visit to Michigan.

Jordan George-Nwogu – DE – Ann Arbor (MI) Pioneer: George-Nwogu is a 6’2″, 215 lb. prospect with no offers at this time. He claims a 4.85 forty.

JaRaymond Hall – OT – Oak Park (MI) Oak Park: Hall is a 6’5″, 255 lb. prospect with no offers right now.

Rodney Hall – QB – Detroit (MI) Cass Tech: Hall is a 6’3″, 185 lb. prospect with no offers at this time. He was Cass Tech’s quarterback this past season and led them to the state championship game.

Derrick Hubbard – LB – Ann Arbor (MI) Pioneer: Hubbard is a 6’2″, 202 lb. prospect with no offers at this time. As a sophomore in 2014, he made 58 tackles, 5 sacks, and 1 fumble recovery. He claims a 4.69 forty.

Donovan Johnson – WR – Detroit (MI) Cass Tech:

Hunter Johnson – QB – Brownsburg (IN) Brownsburg: Johnson is a 6’3″, 197 lb. prospect with offers from Northwestern, Notre Dame, Penn State, and Tennessee, among others. He’s a 247 Sports 4-star, the #1 pro-style quarterback, and #9 overall in the 2017 class. Along with Akinribade (see above), Johnson visited Ann Arbor on Tuesday but won’t be present for the spring game. As a sophomore in 2014, he completed 122/226 passes for 1,434 yards, 10 touchdowns, and 8 interceptions.

Jaylen Kelly-Powell – S – Detroit (MI) Cass Tech: Kelly-Powell is a 6’0″, 183 lb. prospect with offers from Miami-OH and Northwestern. He claims a 4.49 forty and has visited Michigan a couple times recently.

Donovan Peoples-Jones – WR – Detroit (MI) Cass Tech: Peoples-Jones is a 6’1″, 170 lb. prospect with offers from LSU, Michigan, Michigan State, and Ohio State, among others. He’s a 247 Sports 4-star, the #2 wide receiver, and #12 overall. Peoples-Jones claims a 4.4 forty and is the son of former Wolverine Shonte Peoples.

Isaiah Pryor – S – Lawrenceville (GA) Archer: Pryor is a 6’2″, 190 lb. prospect with offers from Clemson, Florida State, LSU, Michigan, and Michigan State, among others. He’s a 247 Sports 4-star, the #5 safety, and #70 overall. He visited Michigan the last weekend in March with 2017 cornerback teammate Jamyest Williams, who also holds a Michigan offer, and Pryor plans to return for the spring game with his family. Archer is also the home of 2016 offensive tackle E.J. Price, who has named Michigan his leader.

Hunter Rison – WR – Ann Arbor (MI) Skyline: Rison is a 5’11”, 183 lb. prospect with no offers at this time. He transferred to Ann Arbor from Arizona. He claims a 4.5 forty. Rison is the son of Andre Rison, the former Michigan State and NFL wide receiver; he now coaches at Skyline.

Josh Ross – LB – Orchard Lake (MI) St. Mary’s: Ross is a 6’1″, 210 lb. prospect with offers from Michigan, Michigan State, Ohio State, and Oklahoma. He’s a 247 Sports 4-star, the #2 inside linebacker, and #56 overall. Ross is the younger brother of Michigan senior linebacker James Ross III.

Todd Sibley, Jr. – RB – Akron (OH) Hoban: Sibley is a 5’11”, 205 lb. prospect with offers from Kentucky, Michigan, and Ohio State, among others. He is currently unranked by the recruiting services since he’s a 2017 prospect. As a sophomore in 2014, he ran for 1,576 yards and 17 touchdowns. Sibley was excited about his Michigan offer but Ohio State still probably holds a lead.

Antjuan Simmons – RB – Ann Arbor (MI) Pioneer: Simmons is a 6’1″, 205 lb. prospect with an offer from Miami-OH. He is currently unranked and claims a 4.55 forty. Simmons is the best skill player I’ve seen in the 2017 class, as he could be a running back or linebacker at the next level.

Taurus Simpson – LB – Saginaw (MI) Heritage: Simpson is a 5’10”, 178 lb. prospect with no offers at this time. He was a high school teammate of Michigan freshman Brian Cole.

Dylan Stackhouse – RB – Oak Park (MI) Oak Park:

Allen Stritzinger – RB – Warren (MI) De La Salle: Stritzinger is a 6’0″, 180 lb. prospect with offers from Cincinnati, Toledo, and Western Michigan. As a sophomore in 2014, he ran the ball 244 times for 1,356 yards and 20 touchdowns, plus he caught 9 passes for 238 yards and 1 touchdown. Along with Simmons, he’s one of several outstanding in-state skill players for 2017. He attends the alma mater of junior quarterback Shane Morris.

2018
Robert Daniel, Jr. – CB – Oak Park (MI) Oak Park:

Emil Ekiyor – OG – Indianapolis (IN) Cathedral: Ekiyor is a 6’3″, 285 lb. prospect with an offer from Michigan. He visited Ann Arbor the last weekend of March and came away with his lone offer so far. He is the son of former UCF and Atlanta Falcon defensive end Emil Ekiyor.

Kalon Gervin – CB – Detroit (MI) Cass Tech:

Marquan McCall – OG – Oak Park (MI) Oak Park: McCall is a 6’3″, 280 lb. prospect with no offers at this time.

Ovie Oghoufo – WR – Farmington Hills (MI) Harrison:

Taron Vincent – DT – Baltimore (MD) Gilman: Vincent is a 6’3″, 285 lb. prospect with offers from Maryland, North Carolina State, and Ohio State; he also reported a Michigan offer at one point. His father is Troy Vincent, who played cornerback at Wisconsin and then in the NFL for the Dolphins and Eagles. Taron’s brother, Troy Jr., plays cornerback for North Carolina State. One Michigan connection is that Taron plays for Biff Poggi, Henry Poggi’s dad, at Gilman.

Recruiting Update: March 30, 2015

Hallandale (FL) Hallandale wide receiver Joshua Hammond (image via MiamiHerald.com)

Thank you to David and Robert for your recent donations! If you would like to help with the TTB redesign effort, please donate using Paypal (on left sidebar) or by doing some shopping on Amazon (LINK). The goal is $3,000 and we’re about a quarter of the way there so far.

COMMITMENT
Cornerbacks coach Mike Zordich confirmed that Wayne Lyons will be joining the team this season, so I wrote up a commitment post (LINK).

ADDED TO THE BOARD: 2015(?)
Concord (CA) De La Salle safety Je’Vari Anderson is still a possibility to join Michigan. He’s a 6’1″, 200 lb. prospect who’s a 247 Composite 3-star, the #63 safety, and #902 overall. I talked about him a couple weeks ago as a guy who was talking about joining the Wolverines but needs a qualifying test score. He has listed offers from Cal, Oregon State, and Utah, but his Twitter account still says “THE MISSION IS GOO!! BLUE!!” with a giant picture of the Michigan banner (LINK). I mention him again this week because the deadline to sign a National Letter of Intent is Wednesday, April 1. He could still end up playing for Michigan without the NLI, but he would not be able to practice with the team until the first day of classes. For his sake – and for the team’s, since I think he’s a better prospect than his rankings/offers indicate – I hope he gets good results and can fax in his NLI before the deadline. It might also help with Michigan’s recruitment of two of Anderson’s 2016 teammates, tight end Devin Asiasi and center Boss Tagaloa.

ADDED TO THE BOARD: 2016
Tyrone (GA) Sandy Creek wide receiver Korey Banks, Jr. was offered by Michigan. He’s a 6’0″, 170 lb. prospect with offers from Arkansas State, Colorado State, and Western Michigan, among others. He visited this past weekend with a couple Lawrenceville (GA) Archer prospects for 2017, Isaiah Pryor and Jamyest Williams, who already held Michigan offers. Banks claims a 4.26 forty and is a track guy. Some teams are looking at him as a corner, but Jedd Fisch was the one to offer him, which implies that Michigan wants him at receiver.

Hit the jump for several more 2016 prospects, some 2017 prospects, an offer for 2018, and some miscellaneous bits.

Rancho Cucamonga (CA) Los Osos offensive tackle Cohl Cabral was offered by Michigan. He’s a 6’5″, 250 lb. prospect with offers from Arizona State, Cal, Utah, and Washington State, among others. He’s a 247 Composite 4-star, the #20 offensive tackle, and #203 overall. Cabral has good feet and could play either tackle or guard at the next level. He has also been recruited by some schools as a defensive end, although I think that’s a stretch unless he would be in a 3-4 system.

Gordo (AL) Gordo linebacker Ben Davis was offered by Michigan. He’s a 6’4″, 230 lb. prospect with offers from Alabama, Auburn, Florida, Georgia, LSU, Miami, and numerous others. He’s a 247 Composite 5-star, the #4 outside linebacker, and #22 overall. He claims a 4.6 forty. He is widely expected to attend Alabama.

Pembroke Pines (FL) Flanagan safety Devin Gil, a Miami commit, was offered by Michigan. He’s a 6’1″, 205 lb. prospect who also has offers from Louisville and Marshall, among others. He’s a 247 Composite 3-star, the #76 safety, and #1202 overall. As a junior in 2014, he made 64 tackles and 3 interceptions. Depending on how his body develops, he could end up as an outside linebacker at the next level. He is a teammate of fellow offeree Devin Bush, Jr., who visited Michigan this past weekend, although Gil was not on campus. Gil committed to Miami back in January, but he is still open to being courted by other schools, so there’s a chance to pull him away.

Hallandale (FL) Hallandale wide receiver Joshua Hammond was offered by Michigan. He’s a 6’1″, 180 lb. prospect with offers from Florida, Florida State, Nebraska, and Washington, among others. He’s a 247 Composite 3-star, the #59 wide receiver, and #343 overall. As a junior in 2014, he caught 25 passes for 413 yards and 6 touchdowns. He received an offer early in the week and immediately scheduled an unofficial visit, since he was going to be in the midwest visiting Notre Dame and Ohio State, anyway.

Orchard Lake (MI) St. Mary’s offensive guard Cameron Kolwich was offered by Michigan. He’s a 6’5″, 270 lb. prospect with offers from Michigan and Missouri, among others. He is currently unranked. Back in February I ranked him as the #13 prospect in the state (LINK), which was higher than several prospects with more offers. He plays tackle in high school, but he projects to offensive guard, where I think he has the potential to be a pretty solid lineman at the BCS level. He’s a teammate of 2017 linebacker Joshua Ross, who also has a Michigan offer.

Farmington (MI) Farmington linebacker David Reese, a Louisville commit, was offered by Michigan. He’s a 6’1″, 235 lb. prospect whose other offers are from Indiana, Pitt, and some MAC schools. He’s a 247 Composite 3-star, the #23 inside linebacker, and #685 overall. I was not expecting Reese to get an offer from Michigan, at least not this early. There has been some chatter about him moving to defensive end in college, since some think he might not have the quickness to remain at linebacker; however, it’s not often that 6’1″ defensive ends make an impact in college. There is a possibility that he is being recruited for the fullback position, since Michigan loses two fullbacks after this season (Joe Kerridge, Sione Houma) and does not have any other experienced players at the position. Reese is a teammate of fellow Michigan offeree (and Louisville commit) Desmond Fitzpatrick, a wide receiver. Both have visited Michigan numerous times, and it would be somewhat surprising if they did not choose to stay home.

ADDED TO THE BOARD: 2017
Mansfield (OH) Madison safety Tyrell Ajian was offered by Michigan. He’s a 6’0″, 180 lb. prospect with offers from Miami-OH and Toledo. He claims a 4.4 forty and a 35″ vertical. Also a standout receiver, Michigan wants him to play free safety. Ajian does have very good speed and will certainly pick up some other big-time offers before long.

Paramus (NJ) Catholic defensive end Corey Bolds was offered by Michigan. He’s a 6’3″, 260 lb. prospect whose only other offer so far came from Rutgers. He does not have particularly impressive film, so this offer surprises me a little bit so early in the process. Bolds is the teammate of 2016 defensive tackle Rashan Gary, and both of them visited this weekend (see below for visitors list). Their former high school coach, Chris Partridge, is now a recruiting coordinator for Michigan.

Stafford (TX) Stafford wide receiver Hezekiah Jones was offered by Michigan. He’s a 6’0″, 185 lb. prospect with offers from Baylor, TCU, and Texas A&M, among others. He’s a 247 Sports 4-star, the #11 wide receiver, and #61 overall. As a sophomore in 2014, he caught 28 passes for 551 yards and 6 touchdowns, plus a kickoff return score. He claims a 4.4 forty and a 32″ vertical. Jones is a crafty runner who does a good job of breaking tackles, catches passes while defensive backs interfere, and has good speed in the open field.

Akron (OH) Hoban running back Todd Sibley, Jr. was offered by Michigan. He’s a 5’11”, 205 lb. prospect with offers from Kentucky and Ohio State. He claims a 4.51 forty. As a sophomore in 2014, he averaged 8.2 yards/carry on his way to 1,576 yards and 17 touchdowns. He’s not a true blazer, but he has the stout build of Michigan State’s recent running back standouts, guys who are built low to the ground and are tough to take down. Hoban’s quarterback, 2017 prospect Danny Clark, used to attend Massillon (OH) Washington with Michigan freshman kicker Andrew David; Clark is now committed to Ohio State. The Buckeyes and Wolverines are at the top of Sibley’s list.

ADDED TO THE BOARD: 2018
Indianapolis (IN) Cathedral offensive guard Emil Ekiyor was given his first offer by Michigan. Ekiyor is a 6’3″, 285 lb. prospect who claims a 5.1 forty. He is the son of Emil Ekiyor, a Nigerian immigrant who played defensive end at Central Florida and then in the NFL for the Atlanta Falcons.

OFF THE BOARD
Rancho Santa Margarita (CA) Rancho Santa Margarita quarterback K.J. Costello committed to Stanford. The writing was on the wall that he would pick Stanford or perhaps USC over Michigan once his repeated promises to visit Michigan fell through. He had visited Michigan last summer and was reportedly close to committing at the time, but Brady Hoke convinced him to take his time, allowing Messiah DeWeaver to commit first.

Temecula (CA) Great Oak running back Demetric Felton committed to UCLA. Felton is a very speedy, surprisingly tough runner who could also play receiver at the next level. He expressed initial interest in visiting Michigan but never planned a visit.

Bradenton (FL) IMG Academy defensive end Rahshaun Smith committed to Clemson. Smith is originally from Maryland and initially had Michigan high on his list, but a mid-year transfer to Florida seemed to alter his recruitment a little bit. By the time he was ready to commit, Michigan was no longer on his list.

MISCELLANEOUS
I posted a huge list of visitors from this past week/weekend (LINK).

I also posted an early spring game visitors list (LINK). And speaking of the spring game, I also did a mock draft of the two teams (LINK).

Notre Dame center Matt Hegarty has been granted a full release from the program to transfer as a fifth-year graduate. There have not been strong indications that Michigan is in the mix, but it’s a possibility for a team that lost its starting center (Jack Miller) and whose backup (Graham Glasgow) is going through some legal issues. Hegarty visited Florida State last weekend, and the Seminoles are in a better scholarship situation (80 right now, whereas Michigan is at the limit of 85). The Wolverines recruited Hegarty as part of the 2011 class out of Aztec (NM) Aztec, where he was a Rivals 4-star, the #6 offensive tackle, and #70 overall.

Over on Recruiting Season, I added/updated profiles for:
