Goodbye, Chase Winovich

Chase Winovich (image via MGoBlue)

I did a scouting report on Winovich after his junior year of high school (LINK) and gave him a TTB Rating of 79 (LINK). He ended the cycle as a 4-star, the #24 outside linebacker, and #299 overall. I’ll pat myself on the back for this take from that scouting report:

At his height he should end up around 240-250 lbs. by the time he’s a college upperclassman. ¬†Since there’s so much physical development in the works, it’s hard to project what kind of athlete he might be; however, I think he could be a BCS all-conference type of player if he can maintain his athleticism.

And this is just ridiculous(ly coincidental) on my player comparison:

Crable…had good speed and a knack for getting skinny to avoid blockers and shoot gaps.

You might know where I’m going with this. Winovich was picked in the 3rd round, #77 overall, by the Patriots. Crable was picked in the third round…#78 overall…by the Patriots.

A Few Thoughts on Rounds 1-3

Devin Bush, Jr. (image via Pittsburgh Post-Gazette)

Devin Bush, Jr. – LB – Pittsburgh Steelers (Round 1, #10 overall)
I think Pittsburgh is a great fit for Bush. When Bush was projected to go to the Steelers at #20, I thought it would be a good fit, but I didn’t know if he would last that long. The Steelers traded up to #10, and for good reason, because he would have been gone. I think Bush will become a cornerstone of that franchise.

But his draft night suit was awful:

2019 NFL Draft Preview: Michigan

Devin Bush, Jr. and Devin White are battling to become the first LB off the board (image via Broncos Wire)

This is one of the most exciting NFL Draft seasons for Michigan fans in years, probably even surpassing the 2017 draft when Taco Charlton was taken in the first round, Jourdan Lewis seemed like a borderline first rounder, and several others were drafted. A couple players are expected to go in the first round, and another player is considered to be one of the top few players at his position.

Nightly Roundup: March 9, 2019

Jim Harbaugh

Stewart Mandel lists the top 25 college head football coaches (LINK). Unlike his buddy Bruce Feldman, Mandel doesn’t have Jim Harbaugh in the top 25. How does a guy who’s won 10 games in three of the last four seasons not end up in the top 25? I listened to The¬†Audible, Mandel and Feldman’s podcast, and Mandel’s excuse was that the expectation should be higher at Michigan. By the way, Pat Fitzgerald of Northwestern (Mandel’s alma mater) is #17.

Here’s the longer Rich Eisen interview with Chase Winovich:
