Projected 2016 Depth Chart

John O’Korn (#5) with roommate and teammate Jake Rudock

I realize it’s very early for a 2016 depth chart, because Michigan hasn’t even played its bowl game yet. But it’s impossible not to look toward the future, and why not now, during the lull before the bowl? Here’s a look at how the roster might shake out for next year. I decided not to go more than three-deep, because once you get past third string, nothing really matters anymore. If things get that bad, people start changing positions (see: Strobel, Tom) or get their redshirts burned. Also, I did not go three-deep at kicker and punter, because nobody has any clue how those positions will shake out past the top guy or two.

Everyone currently on the roster is presumed to come back except a) seniors who have exhausted their eligibility and b) redshirt junior walk-ons, who usually go ahead and graduate unless a great deal of playing time is imminent. Clearly, not all roster players will return, including several you see on this chart. But such is life. Also, I included players who are currently committed to Michigan in the 2016 class, even though some will decommit and some potential contributors have yet to commit.

Hit the jump for the depth chart.

2015 Projected Depth Chart, Part Deux

NOTE: I’m bumping this from a couple days ago since it was posted late in the day.

I originally posted a projected depth chart back in December of 2014 (LINK), but obviously, things have changed since then. Things will continue to change over the summer, as players transfer in, transfer out, quit, play their way up the list, or get injured. There are a couple projected transfers I’ll include on the list for the time being. I am not including Ondre Pipkins, who will likely go on medical scholarship. Keep in mind that some positions might fluctuate depending on what defensive package is in the game, the other team’s strengths, game situation, etc.

2015 Projected Depth Chart

Jake Butt might be the face of Michigan’s offense heading into 2015

Yes, I know it’s really early in the off-season. We don’t have a bowl game this year. We also don’t have a coach. But it’s never too early to start prognosticating about the 2015 season. So here’s my stab at a 2015 depth chart that will surely change between now and the spring, let alone next year’s season opener.

Some notes before jumping into it:

  • I expect Devin Funchess to declare for the NFL Draft, even though I think he would be better off returning for his senior year (EDIT: I originally posted this last week before Funchess did, indeed, declare for the draft. I bumped it to Sunday because I had a busy weekend and couldn’t post something new this morning.).
  • I expect Russell Bellomy to graduate and/or transfer.
  • I have heard of some other players leaning toward transferring, but I am keeping them on the chart for now. I think most players are in a holding pattern pending the coaching hire, anyway.

QB: Shane Morris (Jr.), Wilton Speight (RS Fr.), Russell Bellomy (5th), Alex Malzone (Fr.)
RB: Ty Isaac (RS So.), Derrick Green (Jr.), Drake Johnson (RS Jr.), De’Veon Smith (Jr.), Justice Hayes (5th)
FB: Joe Kerridge (5th), Sione Houma (Sr.), Wyatt Shallman (RS So.)

Premature 2014 Depth Chart

I’m doing this more because I was asked than because I want to do it on December 3rd, but this is always a fun exercise, I guess. I am including class of 2014 commits and a few roster players who may not return next year. No walk-ons are included who haven’t already seen significant playing time, so the random guys who pop into the lineup like Ryan Glasgow and Jordan Kovacs are going to naturally be surprises.

Notes
* Denotes players I expect to redshirt at this time.
– Slot receiver is not counted as a starting position, and the only guys listed are the guys I expect to be limited to slot receiver. For example, Dennis Norfleet could get lots of snaps in the slot, but he won’t play flanker.
– The nickel position is counted as the guy I would expect to come in as the fifth defensive back. Whether he lines up in the slot or whether Countess moves into the slot, it doesn’t really matter.
