2017
Henry Bainivalu – OT – Seattle (WA) Skyline: Bainivalu is a 6’6″, 290 lb. prospect with offers from Michigan, Oregon, UCLA, USC, and Washington, among others. He’s a 247 Composite 4-star, the #19 offensive tackle, and #110 overall. He quietly has Michigan as one of his top few schools, although Washington is probably out front. Bainivalu said he he may visit Michigan this weekend, so it’s not 100% set in stone. UPDATE: Bainivalu will visit during the week of April 11th instead.

Naytron Culpepper – CB – Miami (FL) Carol City: Culpepper is a 5’11”, 160 lb. prospect with offers from Arkansas, Louisville, LSU, and South Carolina, among others. He’s a 247 Composite 3-star, the #39 safety, and #520 overall. He’s a teammate of 2017 linebacker De’Andre Wilder (see below).

Wyatt Davis – OT – Bellevue (CA) St. John Bosco: Davis is a 6’5″, 310 lb. prospect with offers from Alabama, Auburn, Florida, Georgia, LSU, Michigan, Oklahoma, Oregon, Stanford, UCLA, USC, and Washington, among others. He’s a 247 Composite 5-star, the #7 offensive tackle, and #24 overall. He’s the son of actor Duane Davis (who was the Very Dumb Football Player in Beetlejuice and Alvin Mack in The Program), as well as the grandson of former Grambling State, Green Bay Packers, and Cleveland Browns defensive end Willie Davis, an NFL Hall of Famer. Much like Bainivalu, Davis is high on Michigan.

A.J. Dillon – RB – Groton (MA) Lawrence Academy: Dillon is a 6’1″, 230 lb. prospect with offers from Florida State, Michigan, Notre Dame, and Wisconsin, among others. He’s a 247 Composite 4-star, the #19 running back, and #249 overall. He claims a 4.59 forty and a 4.39 shuttle. As a junior in 2015, he ran 187 times for 1,887 yards and 26 TDs. He is coming to Ann Arbor on March 22 and recently named the Wolverines to his top five. He’s the grandson of Notre Dame star Tom Gatewood, a College Football Hall of Fame wide receiver in the 1970s.

MGoFish guest post: 2017 Best Guess Recruiting Class – Offense

Donovan Peoples-Jones 725x

Detroit (MI) Cass Tech WR Donovan Peoples-Jones (image via Rivals)

The following is a guest post from Garrett Fishaw, the owner/managing editor of MGoFish.

With Harbaugh’s first full recruiting class in the books, all eyes turn to 2017 to see how Harbaugh will follow up his top five finish in 2016.

The staff has put in a ton of early work to set themselves up for a great return. And it’s clearly paid off. They’ve already landed the top quarterback on their board and look to be among the favorites for a handful of elite members of the class.

But how will it finish? That’s almost impossible to predict this early, especially after the craziness that took place the last two cycles. So, take this prediction with a grain of salt as there will likely be more decommitments and targets that emerge later in the process.

1. QB Dylan McCaffrey, 6’5” 200lbs. Littleton, CO (Valor)

  • McCaffrey committed to Michigan in mid-February after having the Wolverines out front for almost a year. His addition to the class is huge as both a prospect and recruiting asset. Expect him to be a big reason why UM lands several top targets in 2017.
  • Michigan’s ChancesCOMMITTED

2. RB Kurt Taylor, 5’9” 200lbs. Covington, GA (Newton)

  • Taylor committed to Michigan in October and, like the rest of rest of the current commits, looks to be as solid as can be in that pledge. UM lost the commitment of his teammate WR Jeremiah Holloman earlier this month but that shouldn’t change anything in Taylor’s status. The only thing to watch with Taylor is his development throughout the cycle, as he already looks to have just about hit the peak of his physical build.
  • Michigan’s Chances: COMMITTED

Hit the jump for the rest of Garrett’s offensive best guess list.

What might Michigan’s 2017 class look like?

Donovan Peoples-Jones 617x

Detroit (MI) Cass Tech WR Donovan Peoples-Jones

According to the 2016 Scholarship Count (LINK), Michigan will lose 22 seniors after the 2016 season is over. We can probably comfortably add three players to that total who will transfer, get injured, or not have a fifth year granted. So here’s a look at some very possible members of the 2017 class. (Note that a lot of offers will still go out, so this is extremely early.)

  1. QB Dylan McCaffrey (CO)
  2. RB D’Andre Swift (PA)
  3. RB Kurt Taylor (GA)*
  4. WR Jeremiah Holloman (GA) *
  5. WR Donovan Peoples-Jones (MI)
  6. OL Ja’Raymond Hall (MI)*
  7. OL Jordan Reid (MI)
  8. OL Cesar Ruiz (FL)
  9. OL Tedarrell Slaton (FL)
  10. OL Isaiah Wilson (NY)
  11. TE Carter Dunaway (MI)*
  12. TE Jimmy Jaggers (CA)
  13. DE Corey Malone-Hatcher (MI)
  14. DE TBD
  15. DT Fred Hansard (NJ)
  16. DT Dalyn Wade-Perry (NJ)
  17. LB Jaquan Henderson (GA)
  18. LB Joshua Ross (MI)
  19. LB Drew Singleton (NJ)
  20. CB Trajan Bandy (FL)
  21. CB Benjamin St-Juste (Quebec)*
  22. S Jaylen Kelly-Powell (MI)
  23. S Scott Nelson (MI)
  24. ATH Bo Melton (NJ)
  25. ATH Allen Stritzinger (MI)

*Already committed to Michigan

Michigan’s class will not fill out this way. I have no illusions that I can be anywhere close to accurate approximately 365 days out. But it’s fun to think about if you’re a recruiting nut. Here’s the 2017 Offer Board for a reference point (LINK).

Who do you think is likely or should be added for the 2017 class?

Recruiting Update: January 11, 2016

Egg Harbor City (NJ) Cedar Creek RB Bo Melton

COMMITMENT
Rancho Santa Margarita (CA) Catholic wide receiver Dylan Crawford committed to Michigan at the U.S. Army All-American Bowl (LINK).

ADDED TO THE BOARD: 2016
Paintsville (KY) Paintsville linebacker Kash Daniel, a Kentucky commit, was offered by Michigan. Daniel is a 6’1″, 227 lb. prospect who’s a 247 Composite 3-star, the #14 inside linebacker, and #400 overall. Daniel played in the Army All-American Bowl. He committed to Kentucky on this past Fourth of July, and as an early enrollee, he said he’s solid with the Wildcats.

Sachse (TX) Sachse cornerback Jared Mayden decommitted from Oregon. Mayden is a 6’1″, 190 lb. prospect who is heavily considering Florida State and LSU at this point. He’s a 247 Composite 4-star, the #10 cornerback, and #128 overall. Mayden committed to Oregon in July and took an official visit to Michigan in September, but it does not appear the Wolverines are an option at this point. He played in the Semper Fidelis All-American Bowl last week.

Hit the jump for another 2016 player added to the board, some new 2017 offers, some guys who committed elsewhere, and some random bits.

Visitors: Michigan vs. Michigan State

Bradenton (FL) IMG Academy tight end Isaac Nauta is one of many elite players scheduled to be in town.

I have shortened down some of the writeups this week for the sheer number of prospects visiting. It’s a huge recruiting opportunity for Michigan.

2016
Korey Banks – WR – Tyrone (GA) Sandy Creek: Banks committed to North Carolina in July after being offered by the Wolverines. He unofficially visited in the spring and reportedly had a great visit, but the Tarheels pulled him in, anyway. Michigan was initially recruiting him as a wide receiver, although he could also play cornerback.

Donnie Corley – WR – Detroit (MI) King: Corley said he will probably make it. He is strongly considering both Michigan and Michigan State, so it would make sense for him to check out the game.

Dylan Crawford – WR – Rancho Santa Margarita (CA) Catholic: This is Crawford’s official visit.
