Former Michigan Athlete of the Week: Chase Winovich

New England Patriots outside linebacker Chase Winovich had 2 tackles and 1.5 sacks in a 43-0 win over the Miami Dolphins. And speaking of the Dolphins…they might literally end up being the worst team in NFL history, even worse than the 0-16 Lions and the 0-16 Browns.

HONORABLE MENTION

  • Tom Brady, QB (New England Patriots): Brady was 20/28 for 264 yards, 2 touchdowns, and 0 interceptions, along with 1 rushing touchdown.
  • Devin Bush, Jr., LB (Pittsburgh Steelers): Bush made 7 tackles, 2 tackles for loss, and 1 fumble recovery in a 28-26 loss to the Seattle Seahawks.
  • Taco Charlton, DE (Dallas Cowboys): Charlton demanded a trade after being inactive for the first two games. Then he was waived and subsequently claimed by the Miami Dolphins.
  • Frank Clark, DE (Kansas City Chiefs): Clark made 3 tackles and 1 tackle for loss in a 28-10 win over the Oakland Raiders.
  • Brandon Graham, DE (Philadelphia Eagles): Graham made 2 tackles and 1 tackle for loss in a 24-20 loss to the Atlanta Falcons.
  • Delano Hill, S (Seattle Seahawks): Hill made 3 tackles and intercepted a two-point conversion in a 28-26 win over the Steelers.
  • Jabrill Peppers, S (New York Giants): Peppers made 6 tackles and 2 punt returns for 7 yards in a 28-14 loss to the Buffalo Bills.
  • Jarrod Wilson, S (Jacksonville Jaguars): Wilson made 8 tackles, 2 tackles for loss, and 1 pass breakup in a 13-12 loss to the Houston Texans.

Former Michigan Athlete of the Week: Tom Brady

The 42-year-old New England Patriots quarterback completed 24/36 (66.7%) of his passes for 341 yards and 3 touchdowns in a 33-3 victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers.

HONORABLE MENTION

  • Devin Bush, Jr., LB (Pittsburgh Steelers): Bush made 11 tackles in a 33-3 loss to the Patriots.
  • Frank Clark, DE (Kansas City Chiefs): The former Seattle Seahawk made 1 tackle and returned an interception 5 yards in his first game with his new team, a 40-26 win over Jacksonville.
  • Devin Funchess, WR (Indianapolis Colts): Funchess made 3 catches for 32 yards in a 30-24 loss to the Los Angeles Chargers, but he also broke his clavicle, which could sideline him for the remainder of the year.
  • Brandon Graham, DE (Philadelphia Eagles): Graham made 2 tackles and 1 tackle for loss in a 32-27 win over the Washington Redskins.
  • Maurice Hurst, Jr., DT (Oakland Raiders): Hurst started and made 2 tackles in a 24-16 win over the Denver Broncos.
  • Jourdan Lewis, CB (Dallas Cowboys): Lewis made 2 tackles and 1 pass breakup in a 35-17 win over the New York Giants.
  • Bryan Mone, DT (Seattle Seahawks): Mone made 2 tackles and 1 tackle for loss in a 21-20 win over the Cincinnati Bengals.
  • Jabrill Peppers, S (New York Giants): Peppers made 7 tackles and 2 punt returns for 7 yards in a 35-17 loss to the Cowboys.

Former Michigan Athlete of the Week: De’Veon Smith

Surprise, surprise! Orlando Apollos running back De’Veon Smith wins the award again after helping achieve a 34-31 victory over the Memphis Express. Smith had 10 carries for 27 yards (2.7 YPC), including a game-winning 1-yard touchdown run with 1:51 left in the contest.

  • Matt Godin, DL (San Antonio Commanders): Godin made 2 tackles in a 23-6 loss to the Arizona Hotshots.
  • Ty Isaac, RB (Birmingham Iron): Isaac was a scratch.
  • Denard Robinson, RB (Atlanta Legends): Robinson had 1 carry for 1 yard in a 17-9 loss to the Birmingham Iron.
  • Channing Stribling, CB (Memphis Express): Stribling made 1 tackle in the 34-31 loss to the Apollos.

Former Michigan Athlete of the Week: De’Veon Smith

De’Veon Smith

Smith is making this pretty much a one-man race during the AAF season. The Orlando Apollos’ De’Veon Smith ran 13 times for 40 yards (3.1 YPC) and 3 touchdowns (1 yard, 1 yard, 4 yards) and 1 catch for 0 yards. The Apollos won over the Atlanta Legends, 36-6.

HONORABLE MENTION

  • Matt Godin, DT (San Antonio Commanders): Godin made 1 tackle in a 19-15 win over the Salt Lake Stallions.
  • Ty Isaac, RB (Birmingham Iron): Isaac did not play in the Iron’s 31-25 loss to the Memphis Express.
  • Denard Robinson, RB (Atlanta Legends): Robinson had 2 carries for 4 yards and 2 catches for 21 yards in the 36-6 loss to Orlando.
  • Channing Stribling, CB (Memphis Express): Stribling made 2 tackles in a 31-25 win over the Birmingham Iron.

Former Michigan Athlete of the Week: De’Veon Smith

De’Veon Smith

Orlando Apollos running back De’Veon Smith received 9 carries for 39 yards (4.3 YPC) in the Apollos’ first loss of the season, a 22-17 defeat at the hands of the Arizona Hotshots.

HONORABLE MENTION

  • Matt Godin, DL (San Antonio Commanders): Godin made 1 tackle in a 37-6 win over the Atlanta Legends.
  • Ty Isaac, RB (Birmingham Iron): Isaac did not play in the 32-29 win over the San Diego Fleet.
  • Denard Robinson, RB (Atlanta Legends): Robinson had 3 carries for 14 yards in a 37-6 loss to the San Antonio Commanders.
  • Channing Stribling, CB (Memphis Express): Stribling made 1 tackle in a 22-9 loss to the Salt Lake Stallions. On a side note, the Express just signed Johnny Manziel, so they’re now my least favorite AAF team.
