Euless (TX) Trinity DT Chris Daniels

Chris Daniels – DT – Euless (TX) Trinity: Daniels is a 6’3″, 299 lb. prospect with offers from Alabama, Baylor, Michigan, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Texas A&M, and USC, among others. He’s a 247 Composite 4-star, the #15 defensive tackle, and #149 overall. Daniels grew up in Muskegon, MI, and his childhood favorite school was Michigan. He visited Michigan earlier in the week. Michigan seems to be recruiting only a couple defensive tackles, including Rashan Gary, but Daniels is a guy they have kept in touch with throughout.

I think Morgan’s return, while a huge benefit for this team jumbles the situation up for Ross a bit. Ross always seemed like an ideal fit at the WIL spot, and that’s where he got most of his hype as an instinctual run-game stopper early in his career. He was a bit of a dud at SAM and apparently he is staying outside mostly in the new scheme, perhaps due to Morgan’s return. Still, it seems suboptimal to me, as I’d like to see Gedeon use his size and athleticism to play the SAM role similar to what Jake Ryan did rather than Ross getting bumped over.

It’s hard to complain about extra unexpected depth though. Michigan seems to be in a position where it has 3 very good senior linebackers and one promising backup for what amounts to 2.5 positions. No real complaints for 2015 overall, but things at LB could have worked out a little more smoothly and consistently.

It’ll be interesting to see how the LB rotation shakes out with this new staff.
