Visitors for the Wisconsin Game

November 19, 2010

According to TomVH from MGoBlog, several 2011 prospects are headed for Ann Arbor on Saturday.  Among them are linebacker Antonio Kinard (maybe), offensive guard Chris Bryant (maybe), offensive tackle Jake Fisher, tight end Jack Tabb, linebacker/wide receiver Kris Frost, and outside linebacker Ryan Petro.

Petro is a new face on the Michigan recruiting scene from Winter Springs, FL.  He doesn’t yet have an offer, but interest is picking up. He could be a weakside linebacker or Spur prospect down the road.  Here’s some video on Petro:

Do you like Petro's film? Do you think he's a quality sleeper?

Magnus, I like your web site because I apprecaite your football knowledge and insights. In that regard, when you post a video, it would be helpful to me (a football fan with no particular football expertise) if you can state what you think that person does well or needs to improve.

In the near future, I will be bringing back my "Scouting Report" feature that will break down film of various recruits. However, I usually limit those in-depth analyses to recruits who have actually been offered by Michigan. To this point, Petro hasn't been offered.

But just to give a quick bit of analysis, I like Petro's film. I'm a little bit surprised that he hasn't received any offers yet, but maybe he just hasn't attended many camps or sent out much film. He looks to me like a WLB prospect, but he'll need to put on a fair amount of weight to play WLB at the next level.

You can tell from his footwork at linebacker that he's a technically sound player and he does a good job of keeping square to the ballcarrier. He's an above average athlete. He looks like the type of kid that Boise State could turn into a multi-year starter, but Michigan's coaches might play him at free safety or punter for a couple years before they figure out that his talents fit better at a different spot.
