Notes: ESPN 4-star, #7 OT, #63 overall, #2 in-state…Rivals 4-star, #3 OG, #77 overall, #3 in-state…247 Sports 4-star, #7 OT, #31 overall, #2 in-state…Son of former Pitt and Detroit Lions defensive lineman Marc Spindler…Teammate of 2021 offensive tackle Garrett Dellinger

Stats: N/A

Strengths: Nasty, determined blocker…Enjoys physical aspect of the game…Thick lower body with powerful base…Runs feet nicely after contact on run plays…Quick in open space and able to work up to second level

Weaknesses: Needs to work on pass protection…Does not consistently mirror defenders…Opens shoulders and allows penetration too often…Keeps feet too narrow and plays too high at times…Can get somewhat lackadaisical on defense with his technique…Sometimes fails to get second step down quickly enough

Overall: Spindler is a very good prospect who could end up playing on either side of the ball in college. Despite being ranked as an offensive tackle, I see him as more of an interior guy on offense. Defensively, Spindler is a little heavy-footed but could play the defensive tackle position. I just don’t see that as his optimal spot.

Reminds me of: Ben Bredeson. Perhaps even better, he reminds me of another guy whose name I probably shouldn’t divulge, because it’s a somewhat obscure player whose identity might reveal a little too much. But the reason I mention that is that I have a very high opinion of Spindler. I don’t necessarily think he’s a future #1 draft pick, but I think he’s a safe bet to have an excellent career. Bredeson was a little more refined as a prospect at this point in his career, but Spindler can get there.

Love these capsules. Great job Thunder!

Side note: I remember watching Marc Spindler on draft day sitting at a restaurant booth with cameras on him waiting to be drafted. He had some injury issues I believe and fell to 3rd round. Kiper had some really nice things to say about him.

Rumor (totally unsubstantiated) – I heard he was considering transferring to IMG but I think that fell through.

Another side note: My brother dated Marc’s current wife for a short time way back in the late 80’s.

Second the comment above. This is interesting content.

I’ve never been a fan of Clarkston due to some uh lets call them extracurricular interactions on the court back in the day, but Spindler and Dellinger are big recruits for Michigan.

Need to get the high end players to come to AA, especially on the lines where it can be harder to pull elite prospects from down south.
