Strengths: Good frame for an offensive tackle . . . Athletic lower body with broad shoulders . . . Flashes an elite first step in run game . . . Sifts through defenders nicely . . . Does a good job on combo blocks and working up to the second level . . . Bends well off the snap . . . Shows ability to mirror defenders in pass protection without getting off balance . . . Improved significantly since sophomore season
Weaknesses: Needs to improve initial punch . . . Needs to improve overall strength . . . Has a good first two steps but then starts to narrow feet and play too high . . . Plays in a run-heavy offense with limited reps in pass protection . . . Concerns about injury history
Reminds me of: Jeff Backus
Projection: With the obvious caveat of health, Dellinger projects to be a very good player down the road. He has the necessary natural tools to be an elite college left tackle, and his primary concerns (technique, strength) can both be improved with experience, coaching, and hard work. If he continues to get stronger through his senior year of high school and beyond, he’s a potential four-year starter and high NFL draft pick.
