Setting aside Tom Brady and Brandon Graham, who from the list of relatively recent NFL draftees would you say is doing the best overall? How about best relative to their talent potential?

I was talking to a Cleveland Browns fan (and big OSU fan) recently and he told me he loves Jabrill Peppers, but thinks the Browns aren’t using him very well. He claims they have him as a deep safety. Anything to that?

That is pretty accurate about Jabrill Peppers. They’re using him as a deep safety, not up in the box like many of us expected. I’m surprised by that, and while I think he’s capable of playing back there, I don’t think that’s where he fits best. But it’s the Browns, and they’re terrible. I guess we shouldn’t be too surprised.

Of the guys I’ve seen and tracked, I think Jourdan Lewis is doing the best out of the guys drafted over the past couple years. He hasn’t put up great numbers, but I think after another year or two, he’ll be a very solid starter in the NFL. Otherwise, I think Ryan Glasgow is quietly having a pretty good year in Cincinnati. He’s a walk-on who turned into a 4th round pick (IIRC), and he’s in the rotation and making a couple stops seemingly every week.

I’ve stopped to watch Cleveland two or three times now, just because of Peppers. I think it’s pretty interesting how they use him. He plays a lot of Center Field and then they really rely on him to fix it when things go wrong. He’s really doing a nice job for a pretty good defense. Hell if the Lions had Cleveland’s D, they’d be leading their division.

A shout out for Jake Ryan. He is a solid IL for Green bay.
