Frey’s background is as a zone blocking guy. Were this to happen, would it signal a change in our thinking about how we run the football?

The last time I was there, it was still grass I think. I saw what I still think to be the single most interesting play of my life.

It was Marine City vs OLSM in a tournament game. Marine City had a big, fast, square, 5’10, 215 lbs. Sr, farm boy who had been trucking everybody since he was a FR. They basically abused you with this kid on power, wham and quick hitters until you started checking the clock. Then they’d keep it up.

It was second and something and they come off tackle with this kid. He gets a nice hole, cuts it up and everybody is putting up six the second he clears the line of scrimmage because he always goes for 70 and six when a play gets this far.

All of a sudden, Grant whatsisname who went to Stanford first and then came to us to be a very nice Safety, comes straight downhill and just cuts this kid down with a textbook perfect knee high tackle followed by just the prettiest wrap up and twist you have ever seen in your life and it’s a gain of maybe 6. Game over. OVER!!! You could hear the air go straight out of the entire Marine City sideline. The shock was audible.

It was profound. They hung around and lost maybe 28 14 but it was over on the first series of downs on one great tackle that wasn’t really even that much of a hit.

    Such an emotionally charged game.

I don’t think we’ve had a true thumper on this year’s board even from the beginning. I haven’t bothered to see if that’s because this is a lean year for thumpers, or if it’s us. I really like both Singleton and Gay, but I don’t think either one weighs within 10 lbs of his claim, particularly Gay.

As an aside, I was impressed with how lean and fit Gay’s team was, then I looked again and Damn, with very few exceptions there was hardly a heavy kid to be found in their opposition either. Maybe it’s just me, but i thought that it was dramatic in comparison to any other HS football I’ve seen on film in years, maybe ever.

I’ll buy the weird stance thing, but he makes some decent pulls and gets that big body out there in front of the ball and then makes some pretty good contact in space. I dunno, if I was coaching in the MAC, I wouldn’t be letting Kent State have him unopposed. I think he’s a very nice guard in that league.

I can’t believe this kid only has one offer. I think Kent State just got themselves a helluva prospect.

Its an ugly world lately that seems intent on getting even uglier. I’m not sure it can even be accurately determined what the hell Trump meant by that comment to begin with. But it was good enough to drive the image of Omar Mateen’s dad sitting behind Clinton at her rally in Kissimmee off the front page.

What I find to be most interesting is the formerly anti war left rabidly chanting USA, USA in a successful effort to shout down Bernie supporters chanting “No More War” at the Democratic convention. And the likes of career Democrat Bob Beckel straight out calling for the assassination of Julian Assange. Seems like everybody wants to kill off the political opposition.

I don’t mean this in a flippant way, he’s gonna have to be better than Brady. He’s going to have to be exceptionally great at reading defenses, then putting the ball into tiny windows or throwing open a batch of not incredibly gifted wide receivers and one wonderfully gifted tight end. i know how I’m betting.

If you have a hill nearby, you can get a lot done there.

We have a pretty good sledding hill near the house, I had a kid that absolutely could not run. He was all elbows and knees pumping like crazy with no forward motion. Out of desperation, I took him to the top of the hill when he was about 12, pointed him at the tree line about 40 yards away and 15 – 18 yards below, told him about how Valeri Borzov won the 100 meters at the Olympics and gave him a shove. He never got fast, but he did learn to stride.

“The Hill” became a thing in my family as pretty quick as soon as they learned to stride out, we quit running down, pretty tough on shins and joints, and started running up. Here’s the drill ….. Sprint up the long side to the pushup stands, 5 pushups, walk down the steep side, sprint up the steep side, 5 pushups, walk down the long side. Repeat 9 more times. thats 20 sprints and 100 pushups. Usually takes about 35 minutes. We’ve had some excellent puking. My all time favorite kid, other than my own, finished that workout one summer day, went home with his dad and puked his guts out there there, because he didn’t want the other boys to know. That’s damn near the definition of tough in my book.

My youngest regularly runs something approaching that workout now while carrying two, 3 lb dumbbells. As Bo once said of Anthony Carter, “he’s as hard as barbed wire”.

He may have also considered the possibility of some free legal advice from his coach in the event things don’t go as well as hoped.

It’s just amazing the quality of high school football athletes in florida. You have to go down to the 41st kid in the state to get the first kid rated below 90 at 247.

I often wonder if that’s real or some bias revolving around weather or recruiting sites preference for places to hangout.

Ezekiel Elliot screwed up. Everybody knew it, especially Ezekiel Elliot and the entire program went on a damage control mission for the entire week. The culmination of that mission being Urban and Zeke exchanging hugs and kisses during their postgame interview yesterday, during which Ezekiel proclaimed himself to be the ultimate “Team Player” while beaming Urban looked on.

I don’t think they care about Cardale so much. The mission was to restore to Zeke any sheen he might have lost in the eyes of the NFL. I’d say, they got it done.

Has anybody ever seen a 6’4″ corner? I can’t think of any corner anywhere that even approached that kind of height.
