Highlights: Illinois 37, Michigan State 34

November 10, 2019

One of the joys of being on one side of a rivalry is enjoying your opponent’s misery. Michigan State was up 28-3 on Illinois, and the Fighting Illini came back to win, 37-34. It was the largest comeback in Illinois history at the expense of guys wearing jerseys designed by a blindfolded 3-year-old.

Also, former Michigan QB Brandon Peters threw 3 touchdowns for the Illini.

Any bets on whether we score more than 37 against State?

I would bet they score fewer than 34!

Crazy game. Illinois scores 27 of their 37 total in the 4th quarter. Mostly just going into aggressive pass offense. They did that even while throwing an INT somehow.

Anyway it’s nice to see Peters have a career a game. And St Juste playing a big role in MInnesota’s upset win also. Wish they were doing it in another conference but if it means they’re beating PSU and MSU I’ll take it.

I’ve never been one to hate on MSU too hard. Some family who went there, etc. But these last couple years have put me over the edge. Izzo Dantonio Engler. Terrible people and terrible culture around athletics.

Looking forward to seeing MSU squeak by Maryland so that Dantonio can retire with dignity.

MSU has become a moral dumpster fire – Izzo, Mork, Simons Engler etc. The football program was lucky to catch UM in a rut from RR through Hoke and is reverting to mean – they are a fumbled punt away from losing 3 of 4 to JH and can’t recruit. I would like Dantonio to stick around another year just to watch him go 3-8.

I HATE MSU. This is MY rivalry game. I work with about 5 UM fans and 65 MSU fans. Regardless of their record they’re much more annoying than my 2 OSU friends. My life is miserable for a full year everytime MSU wins, which is too often. In my opinion, Harbaugh doesn’t put enough emphasis on this game. MSU has nothing to lose. They will have multiple trick plays, late hits and refs keeping them in the game. As much as I want to see a blow out it ain’t happenin’. This will probably be a last possession-type game. HATE has a way of evening the playing field when 1 team isn’t as hateful (yeah, I’m saying UM looking past MSU toward OSU). I wouldn’t put anything past Mork, including announcing to his teams that this is his last game against UM (which he’ll deny after the game)… right before they head out onto the field.

I used to disagree with this perspective. Felt M deserved to be arrogant and should dominate over lesser school like MSU and focus their energy on bigger things. I have been disabused of this notion on many fronts.

I also understand that living in-state is a different animal (with MSU people all around you). Where I live being a Michigan ex-pat (from any school) means you have a common bond so sports things are usually good-natured. Can’t say the same for OSU people.

Given that I grew up in Georgia and didn’t really get into UM culture until my freshman year in 1994, so it was all about notre dame and ohio state. msu was big, but it didn’t have the same impact on me as nd/osu.

During my time at Michigan (5 year plan): 4-1 vs msu, 3-2 vs osu, 2-2 vs nd. Good times.

Yeah, I was all about Ill coming back and kiking it to Sparty. Why not?

In the past I would root for MSU whenever they didn’t play Michigan but today I just like to see them get beat by pracrtically anyone. Only exception is Notre Dame who is the focus of my complete University hatred.
Even OSU, I respect athletically and academically they’ve made a lot of strides to the positive.
MSU I’ve come to pity and generally have a smh attitude as it has turned into such a pathetic school………
Their peeps always say to me something like, Someone has to grow the food and my response is something like, Yeah, but someone intelligent, competent and responsible has to own & manage the land………

I think this game turns into a similar ND like asskickin; and then MSU will resort to dirty play; similar to what Florida did in Harbaugh’s first bowl game after Michigan got the big lead……..
    Go Blue!……….INTJohn
