De’Veon Smith

I asked a pretty simple question a couple weeks ago: Who will lead the 2016 Wolverines in rushing? Here were your responses:

De’Veon Smith: 62%
The senior was Michigan’s leading rusher in 2015 and my pick to lead the team again this season.

Ty Isaac: 30%
I didn’t think Isaac would get this many votes, even though I think he’s a better runner than Smith. He spent some time in the doghouse and isn’t the best blocker, so he’s not going to get as many snaps as Smith.

Drake Johnson: 3%
It will be a tough task for Johnson to lead the team since he had to sit out at least the opener against Hawaii with an injury.

Kareem Walker: 2%
Walker will also have a hard time leading the team, since he has had some off-the-field issues. He was going to be down the depth chart a ways, too.

Chris Evans: 2%
Evans has wowed some people in fall practice and led the team in rushing in game one after Smith suffered a rib injury.

Kingston Davis: 0% (7 votes)
Chances are very slim that the powerful freshman back will work his way past the other guys on the depth chart.

Karan Higdon: 0% (3 votes)
I’ve heard some positive things about Higdon from camp after he missed a chunk of time in the spring, but he’s still unlikely to pass the top few guys on the depth chart.

State your case in the comments.

If you take the poll again, Evans would probably win. It was pretty clear from early on that he is the best running back we have. Better moves, better instinct, better speed than Smith, and he looked natural in there from play 1.

I really liked Evans today, but was impressed with Isaac’s improvement too. If he played with that effort last year, he may have challenged Deveon
