Preferred Walk-on Offers and Commitments for 2016

January 30, 2016
Tru Wilson 616x

Warren (MI) De La Salle running back/safety Tru Wilson

Michigan has picked up a few preferred walk-on commitments over the past few days. I have had requests to comment on some of these players, but I’m going to hold off for obvious reasons (National Signing Day is giving us plenty of news on which to write) and maybe not-so-obvious reasons (walk-ons sometimes disappear when they get late offers). I don’t want to spend a ton of time commenting on Tru Wilson, for example, if he decides to take a scholarship to Eastern Michigan between now and Wednesday.

Here are the walk-on offers and 14 commitments that I have gathered so far. Highlights and brief biographical information can be found by clicking on each player’s name:

I’m curious about your opinion on Anthony Vastardis.

Here’s mine. He stands up sometimes before he takes his first step, makes him look slow. Ok, he is slow. But somehow he gets to pulling pretty good and is real good at finding a target. He is always actively searching for someone to hit and when he identifies someone to block, that person is removed from the play. Has a lot of punch when he chooses to use it. He rocks people whether his technique is good or not. He finishes, is nasty. This is another walk-on that I think has a chance.

Jokisch can look bad hunting down quick guys to hit, but he does give off a feeling of sincere desire running around out there. Besides, this is the Catholic League, the quick guys are quick.

He is a big kid and looks to me like he can add some weight on that frame of his and maybe get quicker himself, as he also looks like a kid that isn’t quite used to being as big as he is … yet. He’ll for sure understand the drill.

Speaking of the Catholic league, De La Salle and De commitments. It’s been real interesting over here in the MAC Red this past couple of weeks.

Thunder, none of these OL walkons are Tackles, correct? How about 2015 PWO? Just curious, and trying to figure out depth…

Greg Robinson is the only potential tackle of the walk-ons. Vastardis, Kay, etc. are all interior guys.
