2020 Season Countdown: #37 Anthony Solomon

Name: Anthony Solomon
Height:
6’1″
Weight:
212 lbs.
High school:
Fort Lauderdale (FL) St. Thomas Aquinas
Position:
Linebacker
Class:
Sophomore
Jersey number:
#10
Last year:
I ranked Solomon #78 and said he would redshirt (LINK). He played in eleven games and made 1 tackle.
TTB Rating:
 84

When Solomon came into college, it was unclear which linebacker position he would eventually play, Viper or WILL. Playing WILL requires a little more size, and playing Viper requires a little more versatility and coverage. Solomon played mostly on special teams as a freshman, but that means the coaches liked him well enough to get his feet wet and burn his redshirt. That is probably a good sign for his future.

The 2020 season will probably see him playing a backup role once again. The odds-on favorite for Viper is Michael Barrett, and the WILL position will be locked down by Joshua Ross. And anyway, Solomon is too light to play inside linebacker right now. The backup Viper has never turned into a high-volume position, except when Jabrill Peppers got injured a few years ago and Josh Metellus stepped in short-term. While Barrett is unproven as a player, I think he’s unlikely to be unseated by Solomon. The coaches do seem to like Solomon, but Michigan has recruited the Viper position heavily over the past couple recruiting classes.

Prediction: Backup Viper, special teamer

Final TTB Ratings for 2019

Daxton Hill

Help out the blog by making purchases at Amazon from links like this one (LINK):

I know it’s a little bit late in the game, but back in the spring, I didn’t have time to review all the senior film for Michigan’s 2019 signees and give them updated TTB Ratings. I did that during the 2019 Season Countdown, so here are the final TTB Ratings for the class of 2019.

S Daxton Hill: 100
He’s the best safety in the class, though it’s an unimpressive safety class overall.

RB Zach Charbonnet: 83 90
As long as he can get/stay healthy, Charbonnet has the potential to be a high draft pick in the future.

DT Chris Hinton, Jr.: 90
He should be an early contributor with high long-term upside.

2019 Season Countdown: #78 Anthony Solomon

Anthony Solomon (image via MGoBlue)

Name: Anthony Solomon
Height:
6’1″
Weight:
200 lb.
High school:
Fort Lauderdale (FL) St. Thomas Aquinas
Position:
Linebacker
Class:
Freshman
Jersey number:
N/A
Last year:
Solomon was a senior in high school (LINK). He made 63 tackles, 7 tackles for loss, 3 sacks, 3 forced fumbles, and 1 fumble recovery.
TTB Rating:
84

Solomon flirted with the idea of Michigan for a long time. A commitment to Miami happened. Then he flipped to Michigan in mid-December. It was an odd recruitment, but a fruitful one for the Wolverines. Solomon was long considered a high-quality recruit, and the only thing that seemed to keep his ranking from improving was that he stayed the same size for several years.

Will he bulk up in 2019 and beyond? I assume he will, because that’s what a college strength and conditioning program is supposed to do. He’s not the type of player who should be carrying 235 or 240 lbs., but it’s not impossible to imagine him in that 220-225 lb. range. Whether he plays Viper or weakside linebacker might depend on how he maintains his speed, but I think he will be a successful player if he buys into the program. That will probably include waiting a year to see the field while he works on his body.

Prediction: Redshirt
