Pembroke Pines (FL) Flanagan linebacker Devin Bush, Jr. (image via 247Sports.com) |
The way information trickles out, it’s unclear at this point exactly which players will be visiting campus, going only to the Sound Mind Sound Body camp, or doing both. So there may be some overlap here, but I will try to keep track the best I can.
EDIT: I’ll be honest – keeping track of all the SMSB visitors is a fool’s errand. There are hundreds of players coming from all over the country. I’m doing my best to narrow it down to the elite players from across the country, and some of the more notable guys within the state. Obviously, since it’s taking place in Michigan, there are too many non-FBS-level locals to list here.
CAMPUS VISITORS
Harry Ballard III – WR – Florissant (MO) Mccluer North: Ballard is a 6’2″, 180 lb. prospect with an offer from Illinois. He’s a 247 Composite 3-star, the #83 wide receiver, and #523 overall.
Devin Bush, Jr. – LB – Pembroke Pine (FL) Flanagan: Bush is a 6’0″, 220 lb. prospect who’s the son of former Florida State (and Dallas Cowboys) safety Devin Bush. The elder Bush is currently the head coach at Flanagan and hosted Michigan’s Summer Swarm camp just outside of Miami, FL. The younger Bush is a 247 Composite 4-star, the #9 inside linebacker, and #221 overall. While Florida State remains the overwhelming favorite (100% of the Crystal Ball predictions on 247 Sports), word is that Michigan has a fighting chance.
Chase Claypool – WR – Abbotsford (BC) Abbotsford: Claypool is a 6’5″, 205 lb. prospect out of British Columbia. He’s a 247 Composite 3-star, the #145 wide receiver, and #940 overall. Oregon seemed like the early favorite, and Notre Dame’s offer also piqued Claypool’s interest. A visit to Michigan shows a fair amount of interest, and Michigan does have some history of developing Canadian players, such as former defensive tackle Renaldo Sagesse. Claypool will be in town on June 11, right before the weekend begins.
Alphonso Cornish, Jr. – OT – Towson (MD) Calvert Hall: Cornish has no significant recruiting profile, but the guy is listed at 6’6″, 400 lbs. Wow.
Micah Croom – S – La Mirada (CA) La Mirada: Croom is a 6’2″, 190 lb. prospect who committed to Utah in November 2014; he also has offers from Colorado, Illinois, and Indiana, among others. He’s a 247 Composite 3-star, the #45 safety, and #662 overall. It’s unclear at this point when exactly Croom plans to be in Ann Arbor, but his midwest tour starts on June 10th and he plans to visit Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, and Michigan State.
Hit the jump for several more names.
Brennon Dingle – WR – Baltimore (MD) Archbishop Spalding:
Beau English – QB – Hyattsville (MD) DeMatha:
Tyshon Fogg – LB – Towson (MD) Calvert Hall:
Devin Gil – S – Pembroke Pines (FL) Flanagan: A teammate of Bush’s, Gil is a 6’1″, 205 lb. prospect who committed to Miami in January; he also has offers from Louisville, Michigan, and several other programs. He’s a 247 Composite 3-star, the #63 safety, and #931 overall. There has been talk that Bush and Gil will end up as a package deal, although Bush appears not to have much interest in Miami, and Florida State does not have much interest in Gil. If the two do pull off the package deal, Michigan could be a compromise option since the Wolverines have offered both prospects.
Nijuel Hill – CB – Towson (MD) Calvert Hall:
Jonathan Jones – LB – Orlando (FL) Oak Ridge: Jones is a 6’1″, 220 lb. prospect with offers from Georgia, LSU, Miami, Michigan, and Oklahoma, among others. He’s a 247 Composite 3-star, the #27 outside linebacker, and #396 overall. Soon after Michigan offered, he named Michigan his leader. At this point all twelve of the Crystal Ball predictions have him going to Michigan. There has been a lot of speculation that he will commit on the trip to Ann Arbor, which will be on June 17. He will be at Nike’s The Opening in July.
Joshua Kaindoh – DE – Essex (MD) Our Lady of Mt. Carmel: Kaindoh is a 6’6″, 235 lb. prospect with offers from Alabama, Clemson, Florida State, Georgia, and Ohio State, among others. He’s a 247 Sports 4-star, the #2 weakside end, and #54 overall. I would expect Michigan to get involved, but right now he looks like a Penn State lean.
Xavier Kelly – DE – Wichita (KS) East: Kelly is a 6’5″, 255 lb. prospect with offers from Alabama, Clemson, Florida, Florida State, Georgia, LSU, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Oregon, and numerous others. He was previously committed to Kansas State. Kelly is a 247 Composite 4-star, the #8 weakside end, and #125 overall. It’s unclear where Kelly is leaning because his recruitment has exploded over the past couple months. Michigan is recruiting him as a Buck linebacker, which is a hybrid defensive end/linebacker. He has committed to play in the U.S. Army All-American Bowl. (Check out some of his basketball highlights HERE).
Sean McKeon – TE – Dudley (MA) Shepherd Hill: McKeon is a 6’5″, 230 lb. prospect with offers from Boston College, UConn, and UMass, among others. He’s a 247 Composite 3-star, the #64 tight end, and #1527 overall. When Michigan offered recently, McKeon almost immediately set up a visit to Ann Arbor. At this juncture, Michigan is clearly his best offer.
Josh Metellus – S – Pembroke Pines (FL) Flanagan: Metellus is a 6’0″, 187 lb. prospect who picked up an offer from the Wolverines after this weekend’s satellite camp; he’s currently committed to Georgia Southern. He’s a 247 Composite 2-star, the #134 safety, and #1915 overall. Metellus is a teammate of Bush and Gil.
Trayvon Mullen – CB – Pompano Beach (FL) Coconut Creek: Mullen is a 6’2″, 197 lb. prospect with offers from Alabama, Auburn, Clemson, Florida, Florida State, Miami, Michigan, Ohio State, and numerous others. He’s a 247 Composite 4-star, the #5 cornerback, and #40 overall. He and some of his teammates will be visiting Michigan and several other schools on a midwest swing, although Mullen does not have much interest in playing for the Wolverines.
Jahcour Pearson – WR – Pembroke Pines (FL) Flanagan: Pearson is a 5’8″, 170 lb. prospect who is committed to Northern Illinois; he also has offers from Cincinnati, Miami-OH, and Toledo, among others. He’s a 247 Composite 3-star, the #230 wide receiver, and #1602 overall. A teammate of Bush and Gil, Pearson’s planned visit was tentative and has not been recently confirmed. I encourage you to watch his highlights, because while he lacks great breakaway speed, his balance and elusiveness as a slot receiver are pretty enticing.
Donovan Peoples-Jones – WR – Detroit (MI) Cass Tech: Peoples-Jones, a 2017 prospect, is a 6’2″, 190 lb. prospect with offers from Alabama, LSU, Michigan, Michigan State, Ohio State, and Stanford, among others. He’s a 247 Sports 4-star, the #3 wide receiver, and #12 overall. He has visits to Florida and USC scheduled for later this month. He and his parents will all be visiting Michigan together for the first time. He participated in the Rivals 5-star Challenge last weekend and earned an invitation to Nike’s The Opening, which will take place in July. He posted a 4.45 forty and a 38″ vertical in testing.
Patrice Rene – CB – Alexandria (VA) Episcopal: Rene is a 6’1″, 180 lb. prospect with offers from Ohio State, Penn State, Rutgers, and Virginia Tech, among others. He’s a 247 Composite 3-star, the #33 cornerback, and #343 overall. He is a transfer from Canada and has strong interest in Michigan, despite a lack of an offer. Unfortunately, most of the coaching staff will be out of town during Rene’s visit, but he will still get a tour of campus and be able to meet the coaches who are not on the Summer Swarm tour.
Cordarrian Richardson – RB – Memphis (TN) Trezevant: Richardson, a 2017 prospect, is a 5’10”, 220 lb. prospect with offers from Alabama, Auburn, Clemson, Florida State, Georgia, LSU, and Tennessee, among others. He’s a 247 Sports 3-star, the #21 running back, and #266 overall. Prior to the SMSB camp, he visited Michigan on Wednesday and picked up an offer. He did not play football until his sophomore year of high school.
Morgan Scroggins – WR – Towson (MD) Calvert Hall:
Steven Smothers – WR – Reisterstown (MD) Franklin: Smothers is a 5’10”, 152 lb. prospect with offers from Alabama, Florida State, Georgia, Michigan, Ohio State, Tennessee, and West Virginia, among others. He’s a 247 Composite 4-star, the #16 wide receiver, and #111 overall. He was offered by Michigan a while ago, but this will be his first time visiting campus.
Amon-Ra St. Brown – WR – Anaheim (CA) Servite: St. Brown, a 2018 prospect, is a 5’10”, 160 lb. receiver with offers from Utah and Washington State. (See below for a little bit more info.)
Osiris St. Brown – WR – Anaheim (CA) Servite: St. Brown is a 6’1″, 178 lb. prospect with offers from Miami, Michigan, Notre Dame, and others. He’s a 247 Sports 4-star, the #7 wide receiver, and #27 overall. His brother Equanimeous will be a freshman at Notre Dame in the fall. News came out recently that Osiris and his younger brother, Amon-Ra, will be transferring from Servite, although I have not heard a definitive destination.
Jonathan Sutherland – CB – Alexandria (VA) Episcopal: Sutherland, a 2017 prospect, is a 6’0″, 190 lb. player with offers from Miami, Nebraska, Rutgers, Virginia, and Wisconsin, among others. Another Canadian transfer, Sutherland is currently leaning toward the Scarlet Knights.
Naseir Upshur – TE – Philadelphia (PA) Imhotep: I wrote up a scouting report on Upshur back in April (LINK). He will be in town for the SMSB camp and plans to swing through campus again while he’s in the area. He is one of Michigan’s top targets at tight end and strongly considering the Wolverines.
Johncarlo Valentin – OG – Philadelphia (PA) Imhotep: Valentin is a 6’5″, 290 lb. prospect with offers from Arizona State, Auburn, Michigan, Pitt, and Rutgers, among others. He’s a 247 Composite 3-star, the #14 offensive guard, and #360 overall. He is a teammate of Upshur’s.
Donte Vaughn – CB – Memphis (TN) Whitehaven: Vaughn is a 6’3″, 192 lb. prospect with offers from Auburn, LSU, Miami, Ole Miss, and Tennessee, among others. He’s a 247 Composite 4-star, the #27 cornerback, and #302 overall. There’s a good chance that he will end up as a safety at the next level. He attends the alma mater of 2015 linebacker Josh McMillon (Alabama), who was very close to committing to Michigan at one point.
Binjimen Victor – WR – Pompano Beach (FL) Coconut Creek: Victor is a 6’4″, 172 lb. prospect with offers from Alabama, Florida, LSU, Michigan, and Ohio State, among others. He’s a 247 Composite 4-star, the #11 wide receiver, and #80 overall, plus a U.S. Army All-American.
Luiji Vilian – DE – Alexandria (VA) Episcopal: Vilian, another 2017 prospect from Canada, is a 6’3″, 250 lb. end with offers from Minnesota, Penn State, Rutgers, and Syracuse. He’s a 247 Composite 4-star, the #4 weakside end, and #83 overall. The highest regarded of the Canadian trio – who all transferred to Episcopal at the same time – Vilian is also thought to be leaning toward Rutgers. The three of them want to pay together in college, although they’re not necessarily a package deal.
Jamyest Williams – CB – Lawrenceville (GA) Archer:
Malek Young – CB – Pompano Beach (FL) Coconut Creek: Young is a 5’10”, 175 lb. prospect who is committed to Georgia; he also held an offer from Michigan, at least from Brady Hoke’s staff. Young is a 247 Composite 3-star, the #43 cornerback, and #470 overall. He’s a teammate of Mullen and Victor’s.
