James Hudson III

Check out the message board for hype videos, some top lists, and Donald Trump (LINK).

COMMITMENT

Toledo (OH) Central Catholic defensive end James Hudson III committed to Michigan (LINK).

OFF THE BOARD

Miami (FL) Columbus cornerback Trajan Bandy committed to Miami. The presence of Mark Richt at Miami is clearly already making a difference. Bandy was a one-time Oklahoma commit who is now a Hurricane, and Richt also flipped former Georgia commit Deejay Dallas.

Los Angeles (CA) Cathedral defensive end Hunter Echols committed to USC. Echols was a UCLA commit not long ago, and while he showed some passing interest in his Michigan offer, I don’t think he wants to leave the west coast.

Hit the jump for several commitments elsewhere.

2017 Recruiting Update: July 21, 2016

Olver Martin 164x

Iowa City (IA) West wide receiver Oliver Martin (image via (Iowa City Press-Citizen)

ADDED TO THE BOARD: 2017

Miami (FL) Columbus cornerback Trajan Bandy decommitted from Oklahoma. He’s a 247 Composite 4-star, the #27 cornerback, and #235 overall. Even though former high school teammate Joshua Uche is now in Ann Arbor, Bandy named a top group he would be considering going forward, and Michigan is not in that group.

Iowa City (IA) West wide receiver Oliver Martin was offered by Michigan. Martin is a 6’0″, 188 lb. prospect with offers from Iowa, Michigan, Michigan State, Oregon, and Wisconsin, among others. He’s a 247 Composite 3-star, the #65 wide receiver, and #436 overall. He was a teammate of a handful of Michigan and targets on Team Hypercool at The Opening a couple weekends ago, and some of Michigan’s commits supposedly lobbied for the coaching staff to offer him. Michigan State and Wisconsin are the biggest competitors for his services right now. He’s visiting for the BBQ at the Big House in August (LINK).

OFF THE BOARD

Fayetteville (AR) Fayetteville defensive tackle Akial Byers committed to Alabama. You don’t often hear about Arkansas producing top-notch talent, but he’s a 4-star and #228 overall in the 2017 class. I like his quickness off the ball, and I think he should be a good player for Crimson Tide down the road.

After the jump are several more players who committed elsewhere, the BBQ at the Big House visitors list, and other tidbits.

COMMITMENT

Darien (CT) Darien offensive tackle Andrew Stueber committed to Michigan (LINK).

ADDED TO THE BOARD: 2017

Ellenwood (GA) Cedar Grove linebacker Dennis Bell was offered by Michigan. He’s a 6’2″, 217 lb. prospect with offers from Georgia State, Maryland, Miami-OH, and Wake Forest. Information is limited on Bell, who’s a 2-star recruit on Rivals, but I believe he transferred from Decatur (GA) Decatur to Cedar Grove after his junior season. So that would mean he wasn’t technically a teammate of incoming Michigan freshman Elysee Mbem-Bosse. Regardless, Bell is now teammates with several Michigan targets in the 2017, 2018, and 2019 classes, and he camped at Michigan early last week, earning the offer in front of the coaching staff. He’s a big WR/DB who will probably outgrow the defensive back position and turn into a linebacker at the next level. He said that he thought about committing to Michigan immediately, but now he’s going to hold off on committing until later in the summer.

Charlotte (NC) Hough quarterback Jackson Gibbs was offered by Michigan. He’s a 6’1″, 185 lb. prospect with no other offers at this time. Gibbs also camped at Michigan and earned the offer, although there has been much speculation and discussion about whether he has anything close to a committable offer. Recruiting guys have dug into it and say that he wasn’t technically offered, but as long as Rivals lists him with one, then I will, too. I’m not in the business of verifying offers. Anyway, Gibbs is a decent looking prospect, but probably not on Michigan’s level. He’s the grandson of former Redskins head coach Joe Gibbs.

Richmond (VA) Collegiate offensive guard Jess Speight was offered by Michigan. He’s a 6’4″, 275 lb. prospect with no other offers at this time. Speight is the brother of Michigan quarterback Wilton Speight. While I’m typically not a fan of under-the-radar offers quite this early in the process, I actually like Speight a little bit. His size is a question mark for me because I don’t know if he matches his listed measurements, but he shows some good athleticism and technique. I wonder if he might be more of a target for the center position.

2017 Recruiting Update: June 16, 2016

Leesburg (GA) Lee County fullback Tory Carter (image via Scout)

ADDED TO THE BOARD: 2017

Leesburg (GA) Lee County fullback Tory Carter, an LSU commit, was offered by Michigan. He’s a 6’2″, 255 lb. prospect who also has an offer from Troy. He’s a 247 Composite 3-star, the #3 fullback, and #1653 overall. Carter committed to LSU in May, but he’s visiting Ann Arbor this coming weekend, so he must have some interest. Michigan has also offered his 2018 teammate, linebacker/safety Otis Reese.

Fresno (CA) Central East cornerback Jaylon Johnson was offered by Michigan. He’s a 6’0″, 177 lb. prospect with offers from Cal, Florida, Nebraska, Oklahoma, and USC, among others. He’s a 247 Composite 4-star, the #11 cornerback, and #98 overall. He claims a 4.55 forty and has been invited to The Opening. He’s a long, physical corner with good feet and hips.

ADDED TO THE BOARD: 2017
Anaheim (CA) Servite wide receiver Terrell Bynum was offered by Michigan. He’s a 6’1″, 175 lb. prospect with offers from Arizona, Arizona State, Nebraska, Oklahoma, UCLA, and USC, among others. He’s a 247 Composite 4-star, the #17 wide receiver, and #129 overall.

Fort Lauderdale (FL) St. Thomas Aquinas running back Mike Epstein, an Illinois commit, was offered by Michigan. Epstein is a 6’0″, 185 lb. prospect who also has offers from Cincinnati and UCF, among others. He’s a 247 Composite 3-star, the #74 running back, and #894 overall. Epstein committed to the Illinois back in August. The Wolverines have offered several of Epstein’s teammates to the point where there are too many to bother naming. Epstein is a small-ish back who runs tough despite not having great size.

Fort Lauderdale (FL) Dillard defensive tackle Jon Ford was offered by Michigan. Ford is a 6’5″, 240 lb. prospect with offers from Florida State, Miami, Ohio State, and South Carolina, among others. He’s a 247 Composite 4-star, the #10 strongside end, and #282 overall. The Wolverines also offered teammate Jordan Wright (see below), and both join wide receiver Jordan Merrell with Michigan offers, though Merrell is a Cincinnati commit.

Deerfield Beach (FL) Deerfield Beach wide receiver Jerry Jeudy was offered by Michigan. Jeudy is a 6’1″, 174 lb. prospect with offers from Alabama, Auburn, Clemson, Florida, Florida State, Georgia, LSU, Notre Dame, Ohio State, and USC, among others. He’s a 247 Composite 4-star, the #6 wide receiver, and #36 overall. Jeudy is a speedster who had 28 catches for 345 yards and 7 touchdowns as a junior in 2015. He attends the alma mater of former Michigan star Denard Robinson.

Hit the jump for a lot more news.
