Not all that surprised about Kevin Doyle. While I think he’s a real nice prospect, I also think he’ll have a tough time making it here.

Somebody needs to get in their car and drop by Ryan Hayes’ high school today and tell him that they love him.Because I do.

24/7 lists Hayes as signed

I like Milton’s potential, but I really like Doyle. I think he could be great, really hoping we get him.

I like Doyle better than Milton. Both are interesting in their own way

So what do we think about Julius, the German DE? The kid looks athletic. I like the soccer background. Hopefully, this kid becomes a Glasgow-type success story…..German-style, not Scottish!

I haven’t had time to write up a commitment post (obviously), but I like his athleticism. As I was talking about a week or two ago, Michigan is among the best in the country at developing defensive linemen. If anyone can take an athletic 6’6″, 248 lb. kid and turn him into a beast, Michigan can. He probably has a significant amount of technical work to do. My guess is he’ll be a pretty good player down the road.

Thanks! I recall reading your write-up bout UM’s D-line coaches. I hate to say this but Julius looks like a Wisconsin type recruit…3 star recruit who becomes an NFL player.

I’ve traveled to various countries throughout the world in my career, and of all the nationalities I found Germans to be the “toughest” audience. By that I mean: they are very matter-of-fact, very intense, very bright, and they soak up instruction quickly and thoroughly.
If Welschof is anything like what I encountered, then I expect him to absorb all of Mattison’s instructions and execute very well.
He’s listed as 6’6″ and 248 or so … I assume he has the frame to hang more muscle? 248 is a bit light for a SDE, right?

Mattison loves this mold of big tall SDE who can stuff the run and push the pocket.

At his age, we should know soon…
If not, I can see him selling greener pastures down a year or two from now

Any word on whether or not Mo Hurst will play in the Bowl game?

I haven’t heard anything yet.

Hurst WILL play in the bowl game, so that’s good for the team. I hope he stays healthy.

How does 247 call Welschof a 4 Star when isn’t on either their in house ranking, or composite.
I’m not complaining about the kid, particularly after hearing from a couple reliables that Mattison really wanted him and is excited, but what the heck.

He’s a 4-star to them. He’s the #12 SDE and #323 overall on 247.

Wow!!! Somebody is messing with me, he shows up on my screen as a 3 star, .8694, 25 SDE, 624 overall, but the #1 recruit in Germany.

I’m really liking this class, there is a very nice combination of athletic ability and nastiness.
I’m indifferent about the QBs as I don’t think it’s unreasonable to think that there will be stud QBs coming in behind Milton, or Milton and Doyle as the case may be. But who knows? I don’t think I would have picked Tom Brady to be a better QB than Drew Henson off of his high school film either.
I really like our bigs, especially the Michigan kids and Welchof. I think all four of those guys have a chance to be really good, I’m not entirely sure about Upshaw, but there’s a big frame and a pedigree. I don’t feel a need to add either another tackle, or a running back. But whatever.
I am really wanting Tyler Friday, would have loved Sandidge too.
I love Cameron McGrone and am very much hoping Otis Reese keeps his commitment and signs. And I really like all the 6’1″ 175 lbs clones.
I hate to say it, but this looks a lot like your typical Dantonio class … only better.
Wisconsin sure got down to business in Michigan this year.

As a guy that is widely thought to be a stone cold lock with 21 Crystal Balls to SC, Sandidge continues to sit there mulling his future. It would be very nice having that kid sitting there as a redshirt freshman while Mone toddles off into the sunset.
