Michigan has basically seemed to have been the front-runner since the Wolverines offered. Despite the fact that several other Erasmus Hall products have signed with Ohio State (Matt Jones, Curtis Samuel, etc.), Michigan maintained a lead throughout. He visited the Buckeyes prior to taking his official to Michigan.
I’ll cut right to the chase, since I have a crap-ton of things to do today:
I love Mohan as a Viper prospect. I don’t know that he has the athleticism and fluidity to play a more traditional safety position, but as a safety/linebacker hybrid, I think he will do very well. He bends well off the edge as a blitzer, and he’s an aggressive player. I can see him taking over the position pretty seamlessly after a year or two in the system.
Michigan now has eleven commitments in the 2020 class, including four linebackers, but the other three (Osman Savage, Nikhai Hill-Green, Cornell Wheeler) are all MIKE/WILL prospects. The Wolverines do not typically recruit New York (or NYC) very heavily, and Mohan will be the first player from Erasmus Hall to play at Michigan. The last Michigan signee from the Empire State was Tyrone Wheatley, Jr. in the class of 2015.

For what it’s worth, Mohan has been my #1 Viper prospect for the 2020 class of guys who I think are strictly Vipers. This does not take into account players like Jordan Morant, who’s athletic enough to play both safety positions *and* Viper.

Despite the impressive offer list I have to admit to feeling a bit deflated by the question of adequate “athleticism and fluidity” to play safety. That sounds like Glasgow, not elite athletes and DB recruits like Peppers or Hudson. Hopefully Mohan can outplay his scouting.

Viper is perfect for him, I totally agree. He’s relentless in pursuit and takes very good angles. Tough kid who looks like he enjoys playing football. Speed seems adequate for Viper but not blazing. The knock on him, which probably isn’t that big of a deal, is that he a “wrapper”! He doesn’t really hit anyone, instead he’ll use his arms and wrap and fling his opponents when tackling. I just wish he’d use his shoulder pads and drive through the runner/QB. Ndamokong Suh was a wrapper too and he did just fine. I also wonder if his listed height is legit. He looks sub 6′ unless you include the afro! Maybe he did. His competition sucks too so you have to consider that in his evaluation. Regardless, he’s another athletic viper prospect that is making this class more fun to follow. Was looking like a down year until the last couple weeks. I’d give him an 84 on the TTB scale. Slightly more reserved on him but can make a name for himself quickly.
