Recruiting Update: May 28, 2018

ADDED TO THE BOARD: 2019

Dayton (OH) Dunbar offensive tackle Jon Allen was offered by Michigan. He’s a 6’6″, 315 lb. prospect with offers from Louisville, Ohio State, and West Virginia, among others. He’s a 3-star, the #43 offensive tackle, and #466 overall. Ohio State holds all seven crystal ball picks, so he may not be worth evening paying attention.

Fort Pierce (FL) Vero Beach defensive end Jahfari Harvey was offered by Michigan. He’s a 6’3″, 215-pounder with offers from Georgia, Miami, and Oregon, among others. He’s a 247 Sports 3-star, the #34 weakside end, and #486 overall. His recruitment has taken off lately, so he might be waiting to see if some of the other big-time programs offer, especially ones in Florida. The favorite right now is probably Miami.

Stuart (FL) Martin wide receiver George Johnson III was offered by Michigan. He’s a 5’11”, 180 lb. prospect with offers from Georgia, Georgia Tech, Oregon, and USF, among others. He’s a 247 Sports 3-star, the #18 dual-threat quarterback, and #929 overall. While he plays quarterback in high school, he will probably have to convert to receiver at bigger programs such as Michigan. Right now he’s strongly considering playing quarterback at schools where he could be that dual-threat QB, like Georgia Tech.

Hit the jump for several guys who went off the board to other schools.

Preview of 2019 In-State Recruiting: #1-5

Logan Brown (image via The D Zone)

I’m going to do things a little bit differently for 2019 than I have before. I started off this series several years ago just listing the big-time prospects within the state, and then I tweaked that by doing my own rankings the last couple classes. While I prefer doing my own rankings, the truth is that I just don’t have the time at this juncture to watch the film and go through the process of ranking each player. Therefore, I’m just going to run through the top players in the 247 Composite with my analysis of their abilities and recruitment. I don’t think my own personal rankings generate enough buzz or eyeballs to warrant making that extra effort

1. Devontae Dobbs – OT – Belleville (MI) Belleville
Height: 6’4″
Weight: 270 lbs.
Notable offers: Alabama, Clemson, Michigan, Michigan State, Ohio State
Commitment: Uncommitted
247 Composite: 5-star, #1 OT, #9 overall
Analysis: Dobbs is athletic enough to play tackle at the next level, but the question with him is whether he will have the combination of length and bulk to play on the outside in college. It’s not impossible to succeed as a 6’4″ offensive tackle, but usually those guys are taller and longer. If tackle doesn’t work, he could be an excellent pulling guard because of his athleticism. But based on what I’ve seen, I think he’s ranked too highly at #9 overall.

Hit the jump for #2-5.

Visitors: January 26-28, 2018

Calvin Anderson (image via Daily Telegraph)

UPDATE: I originally posted this list last week, but several new names were added over the weekend, so I’m reposting it. Enjoy!

TRANSFERS

Calvin Anderson – OT – Rice: Anderson is a 6’5″, 300-pounder who has been honorable mention all-conference for the past couple seasons as Rice’s starting left tackle. As a graduate transfer, he would be eligible to play immediately in 2018.

2018

Abraham Alce – RB – Immokalee (FL) Immokalee: Alce is a 6’0″, 224 lb. prospect with offers from Boston College, Miami, Pitt, and several MAC schools. He’s a 3-star prospect. This is an official visit.

George Caratan – K/P – Oakdale (CT) St. Thomas More: Caratan is a 6’2″, 210 lb. prospect with no offers at this time. He could be a backup option (or preferred walk-on) if Northville (MI) Northville kicker Jake Moody says no to his grayshirt offer from Michigan.

Mustapha Muhammad – TE – Missouri City (TX) Ridge Point: Muhammad signed with Michigan in December (LINK). This is his official visit.

Rick Sandidge – DT – Concord (NC) Concord: Sandidge is a 6’5″, 288 lb. prospect with offers from Alabama, Florida State, Georgia, LSU, Michigan, North Carolina, and South Carolina, among others. He’s a 4-star, the #10 defensive tackle, and #131 overall. Michigan is considered to be a longshot, but if he’s taking a visit, there’s always a chance. This is his official visit. UPDATE: Sandidge is visiting South Carolina instead, and it does not appear he will reschedule his visit to Michigan.

2019

Karsen Barnhart – OG – Paw Paw (MI) Paw Paw: Barnhart is a 6’4″, 282 lb. prospect with offers from Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Michigan State, and a few others. He’s a 247 Sports 3-star, the #42 offensive tackle, and #337 overall.

Adam Berghorst – DE – Zeeland (MI) East: Berghorst is a 6’7″, 245 lb. prospect with offers from Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan State, and Minnesota, among others. He’s a 247 Sports 3-star, the #40 strongside end, and #517 overall.

Devontae Dobbs – OT – Belleville (MI) Belleville: Dobbs is a 6’4″, 270 lb. prospect with offers from Alabama, Florida State, Georgia, Michigan, Michigan State, and Ohio State, among others. He’s a 5-star, the #1 offensive tackle, and #7 overall. Right now his Crystal Ball picks are 91% in favor of Michigan State.

John Emery, Jr. – RB – Destrehan (LA) Destrehan: Emery is a 6’0″, 194 lb. prospect with offers from Auburn, Georgia, LSU, and Michigan, among others. He’s a 4-star, the #6 running back, and #82 overall. He is considered to be a heavy LSU lean.

Michael Fletcher – DE – Flint (MI) Carman-Ainsworth: Fletcher is a 6’6″, 240 lb. prospect with offers from Kentucky, Michigan State, and Wisconsin, among others. He’s a 3-star, the #31 strongside end, and #415 overall. He has twelve Crystal Ball predictions so far, all for Michigan State.

Hudson Henry – TE – Little Rock (AR) Pulaski Academy: Henry, who visited Michigan on Friday, is a 6’5″, 225 lb. prospect with offers from Arkansas, Auburn, Florida State, LSU, Michigan, Oregon, Penn State, and Stanford, among others. He’s a 4-star, the #1 tight end, and #34 overall. He is the younger brother of Los Angeles Chargers tight end Hunter Henry, who was a 2nd round draft pick, and he comes from a family of Razorbacks – his father and two older brothers played football at Arkansas.

Jalen Hunt – DE – Belleville (MI) Belleville: Hunt is a 6’3″, 256 lb. prospect with offers from Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Minnesota, Missouri, and Pitt, among others. He’s a 3-star, the #37 strongside end, and #528 overall.

2020

Kenny Mestidor – LB – St. Peter Catholic School (Ontario): Mestidor is a 6’2″, 220 lb. prospect with no offers at this time. He claims a 4.5 forty.

Christian Veilleux – QB – (Ontario): Veilleux is a 6’2″, 163 lb. prospect with no offers at this time.

Visitors: Michigan vs. Michigan State

Gardena (CA) Junipero Serra WR/S Bryan Addison (image via Scout)

2018

Bryan Addison – S – Gardena (CA) Junipero Serra: Addison is a 6’4″, 180 lb. prospect with offers from Arizona State, Michigan, Nebraska, UCLA, and USC, among others. He’s a 4-star, the #2 athlete, and #83 overall. Addison was supposed to make it to Ann Arbor for the BBQ at the Big House but was unable to make the trip, so this will be his first visit. It will be his second official after he already took one to Nebraska.

Avery Atkins – S – Auburn (AL) Auburn:

Kevin Doyle – QB – Washington (DC) St. John’s: Doyle committed to Michigan recently (LINK). This is his official visit.

Gemon Green – CB – DeSoto (TX) DeSoto: Green is committed t0 Michigan (LINK). This is his official visit.

Visitors: June 19-25, 2017

Noah Cain (image via Scout)

I updated the visitors list with a bunch of players who camped over the weekend. It was too hard to tell from social media who was camping and who was just visiting, so I clumped them all together.

2018

Emil Ekiyor – OG – Indianapolis (IN) Cathedral:

Aidan Hutchinson – DE – Dearborn (MI) Divine Child:

Jalen Mayfield – OT – Grand Rapids (MI) Catholic Central:

Cameron McGrone – LB – Indianapolis (IN) Lawrence Central: McGrone is a 6’1″, 215 lb. prospect with offers from Indiana, Notre Dame, Tennessee, and Wisconsin, among others. He’s a 4-star, the #17 outside linebacker, and #251 overall. He does not have a Michigan offer yet, but he is likely to get one on this trip.

Raiqwon O’Neal – OT – Conway (SC) Conway: O’Neal is a 6’5″, 265 lb. prospect with offers from Louisville, Maryland, Michigan, and South Carolina, among others. He’s a 247 Sports 3-star, the #70 offensive tackle, and #876 overall. He runs extremely well for a big guy, and I’m very surprised that he’s only the #876 overall recruit in the country. Conway is the alma mater of former Michigan wide receiver Junior Hemingway.

Hit the jump for several more 2018 and 2019 visitors.
