This probably won’t be as regular of a thing as a normal high school recruiting update, but I think it might be helpful and informative to occasionally take a look at the transfer portal and any rumblings that might be emanating from said portal.

We are on the cusp of “free agency” in college football, where basically any player can transfer once and be eligible for his new team next fall. With Michigan having a lot of roster holes – and there will be more holes coming soon – I will discuss here some potentially viable options, or at least options that Michigan fans might find interesting.

Belleville (MI) Belleville OG Devontae Dobbs (image via 247 Sports)

2019 Ranking: #28 nationally. #7 in Big Ten. They have one 5-star, one 4-star, and sixteen 3-stars signed, along with one 3-star who’s a verbal commit.

Cream of the 2019 Crop: Belleville (MI) Bellville offensive tackle Devontae Dobbs (5-star, #1 OG, #26 overall) committed to the Spartans in June of 2018. He picked MSU over offers from Alabama, Clemson, Georgia, LSU, Michigan, Ohio State, and Wisconsin, among others. He was a participant in Nike’s The Opening last summer, and he will be playing in the Under Armour All-American Game in a week and a half.

2020 Ranking: N/A. Michigan State has zero commits in the 2020 class.

COMMITMENT

Memphis (TN) Lausanne running back Eric Gray committed to Michigan (LINK).

Stuart (FL) Martin wide receiver George Johnson III committed to Michigan (LINK).

OFF THE BOARD

Fort Lauderdale (FL) St. Thomas Aquinas safety Jordan Battle committed to Ohio State.

Pickerington (OH) Central defensive tackle DeWayne Carter, Jr. committed to Duke. This is the same school that sent Taco Charlton to Michigan, but I don’t think the Wolverines were pursuing him very hard.
