Who’s available in the 2020 transfer portal?

Some interesting names have popped up in the transfer portal recently. It’s impossible to keep up with this stuff – so don’t expect anything superhuman – but it’s something interesting to consider for Michigan, who could use some immediate help at defensive tackle (if Carlo Kemp leaves) and cornerback, if not other spots.

So here, my friends, is a list of players transferring who were offered by Michigan out of high school, as well as some notes on a few of them.

2018 Recruiting Update: The Dump

Leesburg (GA) Lee County LB Otis Reese

COMMITMENTS

Rochester (MI) Adams cornerback Vincent Gray committed to Michigan (LINK).

Northville (MI) Northville kicker Jake Moody committed to Michigan as a grayshirt.

DECOMMITMENTS

Washington (DC) St. John’s quarterback Kevin Doyle decommitted from Michigan (LINK).

Leesburg (GA) Lee County linebacker Otis Reese flipped from Michigan to Georgia. He’s a 4-star, the #5 outside linebacker, and #87 overall. Michigan’s coaching staff found out that he was flipping when he announced on the morning of National Signing Day, which is a . . . uhhh . . . less than ideal behavior from someone who has been committed to you for 1.5 years. Michigan’s coaches took heat for yanking offers late in the process previously (see: Erik Swenson), but at least those players had a chance to make other plans. If you wait until the last day to decide, somebody’s getting screwed.

2018 Recruiting Update: December 4, 2017

COMMITMENTS

Eureka (MO) Eureka running back Hassan Haskins committed to Michigan (LINK).

Bradenton (FL) Braden River defensive end Taylor Upshaw committed to Michigan (LINK).

DECOMMITMENT

Indianapolis (IN) Cathedral offensive guard Emil Ekiyor flipped from Michigan to Alabama.

ADDED TO THE BOARD

Bradenton (FL) IMG Academy center Verdis Brown decommitted from Florida State. At 6’3″, 294 lbs., he could play center, guard, or defensive tackle. He’s rated as a 4-star, the #4 center, and #232 overall. A native of Chicago, it sounds like he may end up at Illinois.

7-12-17 Recruiting Update: The White Whale is Gone

ADDED TO THE BOARD: 2018

Miami (FL) Central running back James Cook decommitted from Florida State. He’s a 4-star, the #3 running back, and #33 overall. At 5’11” and 181 lbs., he runs a 4.51 forty. The brother of Dalvin Cook, he was expected to continue the Cook legacy at FSU, but now it appears he’s likely to end up signing with Georgia.

Ontario (CA) Colony tight end Michael Ezeike was offered by Michigan. He’s a 6’5″, 210 lb. prospect with offers from Arizona, Arizona State, Oregon, UCLA, and USC, among others. He’s a 3-star, the #17 tight end, and #413 overall. This appears to be a wide-open race right now, but Michigan does need a tight end or two in this recruiting class.

Valdosta (GA) Lonwdes offensive tackle Jalen Goss was offered by Michigan. He’s a 6’5″, 250 lb. prospect with offers from Florida, Maryland, Mississippi State, and Oregon, among others. He’s a 3-star, the #66 offensive tackle, and #781 overall. He’s a teammate of 2018 running back Michael Barrett, whom Michigan is recruiting as a running back and Wildcat quarterback.

3 Most Impressive Highlight Videos for 2018

I am by no means an encyclopedia of information when it comes to the national recruiting scene, because I am just one man following one team. But I sure do appreciate a good highlight film when I see one. With Michigan offering about 300 players per cycle, as a conservative guess, I probably watch 400-500 highlight videos per year. There are certainly other players I miss who have amazing highlights, but here are the top three I’ve seen early in 2018.
