2020 Season Countdown: #72 Trente Jones

Name: Trente Jones
Height:
6’4″
Weight:
294 lbs.
High school:
Loganville (GA) Grayson
Position:
Offensive tackle
Class:
Redshirt freshman
Jersey number:
#53
Last year:
I ranked Jones #95 and said he would redshirt (LINK). He redshirted.
TTB Rating:
88

Jones had a great season for a freshman offensive lineman: he redshirted.

Just a few seasons ago, Michigan had a dearth of offensive tackles, and any halfway decent lineman was in danger of having to play early. Now they seemingly have a plethora. Is Jones one of them? We’ll see. He plays like an offensive tackle, but he’s a little on the short side at 6’4″.

The 2020 season should be another developmental one for Jones. Michigan’s two tackles are pretty set in Jalen Mayfield and Ryan Hayes, and there are a few seasoned backups, such as Andrew Stueber (who could start at guard) and Joel Honigford. I have heard more practice hype about Jones’s classmate Trevor Keegan, who came in with a little more college-ready body. So Jones is probably on the outside looking in for now.

Prediction: Backup offensive tackle

Final TTB Ratings for 2019

Daxton Hill

I know it’s a little bit late in the game, but back in the spring, I didn’t have time to review all the senior film for Michigan’s 2019 signees and give them updated TTB Ratings. I did that during the 2019 Season Countdown, so here are the final TTB Ratings for the class of 2019.

S Daxton Hill: 100
He’s the best safety in the class, though it’s an unimpressive safety class overall.

RB Zach Charbonnet: 83 90
As long as he can get/stay healthy, Charbonnet has the potential to be a high draft pick in the future.

DT Chris Hinton, Jr.: 90
He should be an early contributor with high long-term upside.

2019 Season Countdown: #95 Trente Jones

Trente Jones (image via MGoBlue)

Name: Trente Jones
Height: 6’5″
Weight; 302 lbs.
High school: Loganville (GA) Grayson
Position: Offensive tackle
Class: Freshman
Jersey number: N/A
Last year: Jones was a senior in high school (LINK). He had 69 pancake blocks as a senior.
TTB Rating: N/A

Jones is a bit of a rarity for Michigan – a touted prospect from an elite program in the South. Jones comes from Loganville (GA) Grayson, which produces star players every year. There are some hard feelings in the area that Grayson poaches a lot of good players from nearby schools. But they play against good programs and hold their own against powerhouses from other parts of the country.

This year Jones should not be a factor in Michigan’s rotation, despite being an Under Armour All-American. Jon Runyan, Jr. will start at one tackle, and the other tackle spot is a battle between Andrew Stueber and Jalen Mayfield. Jones needs a year or two in the weight room, so that works out well for the program overall, but I do think he will be a good player down the road.

Prediction: Redshirt
