2020 Recruiting Update: December 10, 2018

Oak Park (MI) Oak Park WR/TE Maliq Carr (image via 247 Sports)

Now that it’s (basically) the off-season once again, I can catch up on the ridiculous number of developments that have taken place over the last couple months in recruiting. Last week I did an update on the 2021 class (LINK), and here’s the 2020 edition.

In the meantime, please consider supporting the blog by doing some of your shopping through TTB’s Amazon links like this one:

COMMITMENTS

Nick Patterson – TE – San Antonio (TX) Christian: Patterson committed to Michigan (LINK).

DECOMMITMENTS

Tim Baldwin, Jr. – RB – Ashburn (VA) Stone Bridge: Baldwin decommitted from Michigan (LINK).

Denver Warren – DT – Aurora (IL) West: Warren decommitted from Michigan (LINK).

ADDED TO THE BOARD: 2020

Sam Adams II – RB – Sammamish (WA) Eastside Catholic: Adams is a 6’2″, 200-pounder who’s the son of former mammoth Texas A&M and NFL defensive tackle Sam Adams. Adams II has offers from Ohio State, Texas A&M, and Washington, and he’s a 3-star, the #28 running back, and #341 overall in the country.

Maliq Carr – TE – Oak Park (MI) Oak Park: Carr is a 6’6″, 215 lb. prospect with offers from Notre Dame, Ohio State, and Penn State, among others. He’s a 3-star, the #95 wide receiver, and #524 overall. While he’s listed as a wideout, Michigan is recruiting him to play the tight end position, which makes sense for a guy who’s already 6’6″, 215 as a junior. He claims a 4.72 forty. As a junior in 2018, he caught 21 passes for 815 yards and 9 touchdowns, meaning he was averaging almost 40 yards per catch.

Lejond Cavazos – CB – Bradenton (FL) IMG Academy: Cavazos, originally from Texas, decommitted from Ohio State in the wake of Urban Meyer “retiring” and Ryan Day being named the new head coach. He’s a 6’0″, 186-pounder with offers from Alabama, Florida, Georgia, LSU, and USC, along with many others. He’s a 4-star, the #16 cornerback, and #183 overall.

Hit the jump for several more new offers and some guys who went off the board.

Recruiting Update: Thanksgiving Style

Indianapolis (IN) Ben Davis OT Dawand Jones (image via IndyStar)

COMMITMENTS

Jalen Perry – CB – Dacula (GA) Dacula: Perry committed to Michigan.

Amauri Pesek-Hickson – LB – Leawood (KS) Blue Valley North: Pesek-Hickson committed to Michigan (LINK).

ADDED TO THE BOARD: 2019

Tommy Eichenberg – LB – Cleveland (OH) St. Ignatius: Eichenberg decommitted from Boston College. He’s a 4-star, the #19 inside linebacker, and #359 overall. He has earned offers from Michigan and Ohio State since he committed to B.C., so now it seems to be a battle between the Buckeyes and Wolverines. The crystal ball is 81% in favor of Ohio State, and with the recent commitment of Pesek-Hickson, I don’t believe this is going to go in Michigan’s favor. He also has an older brother at Notre Dame, but the Fighting Irish have not offered.

Dawand Jones – OT – Indianapolis (IN) Ben Davis: Jones is a 6’8″, 360 lb. prospect with offers from Florida State, Indiana, Michigan, and USC, among others. He’s a 3-star, the #85 offensive tackle, and #986 overall. Jones took an unofficial visit to Michigan last weekend, which is when the offer from the Wolverines was extended.

Darius Robinson – TE – Canton (MI) Canton: Robinson is a 6’6″, 250-pounder with offers from Colorado, Maryland, and Syracuse, among others. He’s a 3-star, the #48 strongside end, and #662 overall. Michigan offered him as a tight end, which he did play in high school, but for a heavy run team. As of the time he was offered on Tuesday, his crystal ball was 100% in favor of the Syracuse Orange.

MISCELLANEY

Jaylen Ellis – WR – Round Rock (TX) Cedar Ridge: Ellis named Michigan to his top six, including Arizona, Baylor, Cal, Houston, Michigan, and Tennessee. He’s a 3-star, the #56 wide receiver, and #438 overall. His crystal ball is 100% on Texas, though.

Kyle Ford – WR – Orange (CA) Lutheran: Ford named a top five of Colorado, Michigan, Oregon, USC, and Washington. He’s a 5-star, the #5 wide receiver, and #29 overall, but he tore his ACL during his senior season. He plans to announce on January 5, 2019.

Harrison Bailey – QB – Marietta (GA) Marietta: Bailey is announcing his commitment at 8:45 a.m. on November 29. He’s a 4-star, the #3 pro-style QB, and #59 overall in the 2020 class. The crystal ball is 90% in favor of Michigan.

Percy King – S – Gahanna (OH) Lincoln: King is a 6’0″, 178 lb. prospect with no offers at this time.

Cole Kosco – QB – Poland (OH) Poland: Kosco is a 6’3″, 210 lb. prospect with no FBS offers at this time.

Kobe Myers – LB – Waterford (MI) Mott:

David Ojabo – DT – Blairstown (NJ) Blair Academy: Ojabo is committed to Michigan (LINK). This is his official visit.

Jalen Perry – CB – Dacula (GA) Dacula: Perry is a 6’1″, 188 lb. prospect with offers from Alabama, Auburn, Michigan, and South Carolina, among others, and he was previously committed to Georgia. Marietta (GA) Marietta QB Harrison Bailey (image via MDJonline)

2018

Griffin Korican – OG – Seattle (WA) O’Dea: Korican is a 6’5″, 295 lb. prospect who is currently committed to Oregon State as a preferred walk-on. Though he signed a financial aid agreement in February, the lack of scholarship money means he can still attend another school. He plans to make a final decision on where he will play football after he takes the visit on June 2. He’s a 247 Sports 2-star, the #118 offensive guard, and #2595 overall.

2020

Harrison Bailey – QB – Marietta (GA) Marietta: Bailey is a 6’5″, 228 lb. prospect with offers from Alabama, Florida, Florida State, Georgia, Michigan, Ohio State, and Oklahoma, among others. He’s a 247 Sports 4-star, the #2 pro-style quarterback, and #69 overall.  As a sophomore in 2017, he completed 126/203 passes for 1,824 yards, 20 touchdowns, and 5 interceptions. There are four crystal ball picks in right now, with two for Michigan, one for Alabama, and one for Florida.

There will be a lot of campers descending on Ann Arbor for the Aerial Assault QB Camp on June 17, 2017. I have heard that some non-quarterbacks are attending the camp, so I’m not sure if they’ll be receiving targets or if they’re just visiting campus during that time. Regardless, I’ll list here some of the notable prospects attending the camp:

2018

  • West Bloomfield (MI) West Bloomfield QB Bryce Veasley (Bowling Green State)

2019

  • Santa Ana (CA) Mater Dei QB J.T. Daniels (Update: Daniels was unable to make it to Ann Arbor.)
  • Houston (TX) St. Pius X QB Grant Gunnell (Texas A&M)
  • Detroit (MI) Cass Tech QB Noah Stamps-Freeman

2020

  • Marietta (GA) Marietta QB Harrison Bailey (Update: Bailey also was unable to make it to town.)

2021

Players with a Michigan offer are in bold.
