Awesome job as always. Great way to anticipate the season through the summer.

My biggest critique of the countdown is 6 of the top 22 being RB or WR. That’s too much, particularly for a team that utilizes multiple TEs. Moreover, both positions have solid options available beyond the starters.

3 of the top 6 and 5 of the top 29 are linemen. We were missing 2 of them on Saturday night, and 1 of the replacements was the offensive player of the game.

Maybe the offensive linemen are rated too highly, too…

I did put most of the projected starters lower (5, 10, 12, 13, 21) but I consider that a quibble relative to your rankings (2, 5, 6, 15, 29). It’s great to have quality depth. Because you tend to need it.

Certainly the OL backups are too low. Mayfield at 30 and Hayes 77. OL backups may not play meaningful downs if everyone is healthy but they start and play every down if not.

After game one performances or injuries, I would probably move Glasgow up a bit and drop Bell down a little.

Here’s hoping Jeter and Dwumfor come back not just full strength, but even more fuller strength, and stronger.

Didn’t finish my thoughts – Charbonnet up, Wilson down, and Hayes up.

Bell was open a bunch. If he runs a little harder on one and if the throw is a little more accurate on a couple more, everybody would be talking about Bell as a breakout star. If he and Patterson sync up a little better, Bell could have a big season.

I thought Bell played pretty well. He got open multiple times and he appears to be the #4 WR – a significant role with the way Gattis likes to rotate.

I think this ranking will age well but there’s just one extra ‘slot’ that won’t. Lot of season left though.

Pretty amazing to think that Bell had no real football recruiting offers and was going to play basketball at Missouri State.

Oh I know Bell was open. But in my state of mind watching that game, three or four sheets to the wind, his drops were frustrating.

Thank you for the countdown, it really helps get through the 8 month struggle that is the off season, and is a pleasure to read.

I think Bell getting open may be due to their being better receivers on the field that attract primary attention from the defense. Bell needed to catch a couple of those passes–especially with all the hype about how great he has done in practice. They say he made a spectacular catch on a pass that was too high in practice, “the catch of Fall Camp”. Players and coaches say he jumped very high to catch it. They talked about how his jumping ability from basketball showed on that catch. It should have also shown in a game. Maybe he will come around when it’s for real. Or maybe he will go the way of so many players who just look great in practice, and never in games. Either way I don’t think it would hurt the team if he doesn’t turn out to have impact in games. There’s WR depth that can be the next man up, especially after DPJ comes back. Who knows, with how good Cornelius Johnson looked, maybe he will be moved ahead of Bell soon. He looked easy for him, natural. I love that kid, like, so much!!

Meh. He didn’t “need” to catch those passes. Michigan won by 19 points without him reeling those in. It’s the first game of the year in a new offense. Obviously, we all want him to make some of those plays, but it could have just been a bad night. I’m not saying all the off-season hype was warranted, but Braylon Edwards had his share of drops, too – on easier catches than Bell’s drops – and Edwards ended up being just fine. If Michigan’s fourth-best receiver goes through some Braylon Edwards-esque moments, then I just can’t get too worked up about it.

We just see Ronnie Bell differently.

            Kekoa Crawford dropped passes too.

I guess I don’t think Ronnie Bell is going to be anything more than a 2nd stringer, with less 2nd string play as other 2nd string receivers gain experience and pass him for play time. I don’t know if the ceiling is much higher for him. What we see now is probably what right about we’re going to see the next 2 years. The only reason he’s in so much now is because DPJ is out. I can’t imagine DPJ dropping those passes, even the end zone throw. I think once Johnson and Sainristil get experience Bell we be used less.

I think I see him ending more like Grant Perry than Braylon Edwards, except with less catches and impact than Perry.
